Not replaces. The old covenant still stands.

Of course it does. Otherwise, how could the participants in the new covenant be sure that God wouldn't do exactly the same thing farther down the road? (It's like the old adage that you should never marry anyone who would leave their spouse for you.)

If I am banned it will be for telling the truth ------Jesus keep telling the Jews their time was running out for them to be saved and that is scriptural -----and I will always post truth ------
No one has said anything about a thread ban, unsafe.

And if you get banned for telling the truth I'll go along with you because Jesus is the only savior everybody is a sinner , the Jewish people are no exception

Her post is biblical Jesus is only savior it's not only for the Jewish unbelievers but for every unbeliever that lives

It's 'biblical' by a literal translation of some verses. It's not The Truth.

I find this theology so gut-clenchingly ugly that it makes me wish to abandon the beloved name of Christian if there is any suggestion that I share it. It's gratuitously anti-Semitic coupled with plain old anti-human.

You want the truth Jesus is the embodiment of what truth is and he is only savior and everybody needs him nobody's an exception.

You included

Maybe we need to do a study thread on one of Amy-Jill Devine's books sometime in the future.

I would consider it for the fall. Anyone interested?

Harold Kushner addresses Jewish/ Christian relations in some of his writing as well but the material is older AFAIK.

I am extremely uncomfortable with statements that Jews today are sinners or unbelievers. Or under the curse of death. I have asked the moderators to review your post.
Why the hell would you do that? Just have fun with it. When Christians say God curses death to the Jews, an appeal to the moderators will never be the final solution.

I am surprised what you do not hear as you read the gospel.

Gord and others like to throw confusion into the mix, but this is pretty straightforward.

There is an old covenant. Simple, just follow the 10 commandments and you are ok.

People like George think they can do that and have nothing to worry about. George also thinks lots of other people are good too, and have nothing to worry about.

By your response, you think Jews are not sinners or unbelievers.

God offered a new covenant. Not because he broke the old one, but because it is impossible for you to keep the old one.

Jesus said none are good.
Jesus said unless your righteousness exceeds that of the Pharisees- you’re screwed.
Jesus said many will follow the path to destruction, and few will follow the one that leads to life.
Jesus said he is the way truth and life.
He said if you don’t know me, you don’t know the father.

So, everybody turned against Jesus and shouted crucify him. So who was their father?

Not God!

If you reject Jesus, you are an unbeliever.

So back to the old covenant.

Have you always respected your mother and father? That’s number 5. In that day - punishable by death.

Have you ever hated anybody? Jesus equated that to murder. That’s number 6. In that day - punishable by death.

Have you looked at anybody with lust who was not you spouse? Jesus equated that to adultery. That’s number 7. In that day - punishable by death.

Have you ever stolen anything? Number 8. Ya, death.

There’s more.

So if you go by the old covenant, and get what you deserve. Your earnings. The wages of sin are DEATH. The law, meaning, the Old Testament, the old covenant, brings death, not life, because you are not good enough.

That is what Jesus said.

But Jesus is the good news, which leads to life. Hear his voice.

In the O.T., God kills for what we think are minor infractions, because we are evil, and there is always somebody far worse.

But it is not our righteousness that saves us. It cannot. There is only Jesus’ righteousness that can save us, because only perfect works. We are dead in our sins. Not just Jews. We all.

So Old Testament, take your chances on your own righteousness, if you listen to what Jesus said, that ain’t going to work.

Or, repent and trust in Jesus, new covenant, eternal life, happily ever after.

And what, if anything, does this have to do with Luke 16:19-31

If either of you, or both of you, are banned from this thread, it will NOT be because you insist on telling what you think of as 'the truth'. It will be because of Code of Conduct violations, specifically Paragraph 2, on hate speech, and Paragraph 4, on Disruptive Behavior. You are both aware that there is stricter moderation in this forum. We are here to study a text and learn from each other, not to push our own individual 'truth' as THE truth that everyone HAS to buy into. If you would like to continue to study the Gospel of Luke with the rest of us, you are welcome to do so. However, if you continue posting as you are now, and the moderators determine it violates the Code of Conduct, thread bans may be a real possibility. This may be the only warning you will receive.

Why do you write in purple are you holding your breath or something

By your response, you think Jews are not sinners or unbelievers.
Correct. I do not think Jews are sinners.

Nor do I think they are unbelievers. I think they believe differently than I do and that is fine. I think that God had a covenant with Israel that has not been broken by God. I am very aware this is not what you believe. I am okay with that.

And what, if anything, does this have to do with Luke 16:19-31
Very little, I would say.

This is one of the problems that keeps coming up when we try to focus on a particular gospel and some posters want to give us their entire faith testimony.
