Luke 6:6-11 (GW)
Jesus Heals on the Day of Worship
6 On another day of rest—a holy day, Jesus went into a synagogue to teach. A man whose right hand was paralyzed was there. 7 The experts in Moses’ Teachings and the Pharisees were watching Jesus closely. They wanted to see whether he would heal the man on the day of rest—a holy day so that they could find a way to accuse him of doing something wrong.

8 But Jesus knew what they were thinking. So he told the man with the paralyzed hand, “Get up, and stand in the center of the synagogue!” The man got up and stood there. 9 Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you—what is the right thing to do on a day of rest—a holy day: to do good or evil, to give a person his health or to destroy it?” 10 He looked around at all of them and then said to the man, “Hold out your hand.” The man did so, and his hand became normal again.
11 The experts in Moses’ Teachings and Pharisees were furious and began to discuss with each other what they could do to Jesus.


unsafe says -----We notice in verse 6 ----that there was a man whose Right Hand was affected -------this scripture in Matthew and Mark doesn't tell us what hand was affected ---only Luke shows us this -----See Matthew 12 and Mark 3 ----

We see that Jesus calls the man to stand up in the center of the synagogue and Jesus just doesn't say Please Get up--- He says Get Up in a command voice -----and what does the man do ------He obeys ----not questions ask -----the man was not focused on his problem --which was his right hand ---He focused on Jesus and obeyed His Command to GET UP !

The Pharisees were watching Jesus Closely and He says to them -----9 Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you—what is the right thing to do on a day of rest—a holy day: to do good or evil, to give a person his health or to destroy it?”

unsafe says ----here we see Jesus provoking the Pharisees by disobeying what they perceive the Sabbath to be about ------Jesus looks all around at them and says to the man -------“Hold out your hand.” The man did so, and his hand became normal again.

Again Jesus commands the man to hold out his hand ---and again the man obeys ----the man didn't focus on the others around him nor did the man cave in and sit down ---The man stayed the course and Kept his focus on Jesus not his problem of his hand or the reaction of the others ----The Man's Faith in who Jesus and what He was capable of was evident in his steadfastness to stay the course ----He could have disobeyed Jesus Commands but he didn't -----

unsafe says -----Jesus showed that He was not afraid to stand against His enemies who would use His good for their own purpose to destroy Him -----

To many Churches today are like the Pharisees -----they harbour their own traditions and rules and make up their own False Doctrine and keep their People focused on what the world is doing not what God is doing ------

Here is a Question -----If Jesus Rebuked the Scribes and the Pharisees for changing the laws of the Torah to suit their own agenda --why do we feel we are permitted to do teach and preach what we want today and keep in God's Good Graces ????????

Summary: Luke 6: 12 - 19

1. Jesus goes out to the mountain to pray and spends the night in prayer. When day comes, he calls his disciples and chooses the twelve. These are also named apostles.

2. Jesus comes down and stands on a level place with a great crowd of his disciples and people from all Judea, Jerusalem and the coast of Tyre and Sidon. The people have come to hear him and be cured of their diseases. Those who are troubled with unclean spirits are cured. All in the crowd are trying to touch him, for power comes out from him and heals them all.

Reflection: Luke 6: 12 - 19

These few verses have me wondering about the use of the word "disciple" in the gospels. Sometimes it seems to refer to the twelve. But here the twelve are named "apostles" and there also is a crowd of disciples around Jesus. And there is a multitude of people attracted by His teaching and healing.

Interesting that Luke has the power coming out of Jesus to heal everyone who is seeking to touch Him. In this story Jesus is not required to take any action. Touching Him is enough to receive his healing powers.

With the apostles chosen and a crowd around Jesus, Luke has the stage set for the ethical teachings which come next in the narrative.

Thoughts on Luke 6:12-16...

It was in those days, as Dr. Luke remarks, that Jesus again withdrew to a mountain. There, he poured out his heart to God. He spent the night in prayer. He was preparing to extend his ministry.

Prayer to God's the way of obtaining strength before a step in life.

Jesus called his missionaries to him, and from their number he selected 12. Their work was to consist in going forth in his name and spreading his redemption's Gospel.

A few notes on the 12's work...

Simon, Peter, did missionary work in the East and West. He suffered martyrdom in Rome. His brother Andrew worked in Scythia, where he also suffered death by crucifixion.

Zebedee's son, James, was the 12's first martyr, dying by Herod's sword. James' brother John was Jesus' beloved missionary. He died amid his congregation at Ephesus.

Philip proclaimed the Gospel in Phrygia, where he suffered martyrdom by crucifixion. Nathanael worked in India and suffered a like fate.

Levi was the Ethiopians' missionary. He was killed by nails driven through his body.

Thomas brought the Gospel-message into the far East, into Media, Persia, and India, where he also died as a martyr.

Alphaeus' son James' to be distinguished from Jesus' brother James, the author of James' Epistle.

Simon Zelotes travelled as far as the British Isles and was there martyred.

James' son Judas was known also as Thaddaeus. His field of activity was Arabia.

Kerioth's missionary, Judas, was the traitor.

I recall a few years back that there was a Gospel discovered (in Egypt, IIRC) that portrayed Judas as a hero, rather than a bad guy. I wonder if, even at the time Luke's gospel was written, if there were two competing narratives concerning Judas.

Thoughts on Luke 6:17-19...

This passage shows how far Jesus' ministry extended.

As Jesus came down from the mountain's summit and reached a mountainside-plateau, he had before his eyes a crowd.

There were people from Judea, Jerusalem, Tyre and Sidon. All who came gathered around the Healer.

Jesus' popularity had reached its height.

These people sought to touch him; and the Savior's pity went out to them.

Strength went out from his person, and they were healed.

unsafe says ----So we see that Jesus went off to a tranquil place to Pray to God His Father ------It is obvious what He went to Pray about --the picking of the Disciples ----this should be a red Flag to us who are True Christ-ians ----before we act on our decisions or situations we should seek the right council so we get good advice -----We also should do what Jesus did here -----Pray before we act on our situation or decision

Jesus knew it was the time to choose His Follower to help Minister to the Needy and we see this in this statement ------ 12 At that time It seems to me ---The Time was appointed when He went to the Mountain to Pray -----Jesus did nothing on His own ---He consulted with His Father -----Then and only then did he pick His Followers

Many People Are Cured
17 Jesus came down from the mountain with them and stood on a level place. A large crowd of his disciples and many other people were there. They had come from all over Judea, Jerusalem, and the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon. 18 They wanted to hear him and be cured of their diseases. Those who were tormented by evil spirits were cured. 19 The entire crowd was trying to touch him because power was coming from him and curing all of them.

unsafe says ----We see Jesus came down the mountain with His Disciples ----and there was a big crowd ----they came to hear Him Preach and to be healed ------People came from all over -----

We learn from this that if we don't have Faithful Preaching in our area of where we reside we should travel far to hear the Word of God as it is very beneficial for our Spirit and soul ----we humans regard sickness and disease as evils of our body and miss the real cause from where they come from ---sin is a sickness and disease of the soul -----God's Word is the only thing that will heal our souls ----- The Word inbirths the right Faith for us to have our souls healed by and through receiving Jesus as our Lord and Saviour ----

We see everyone was stirred up and trying to get to Him because power was flowing from Him and it was curing them -----

1411 dýnamis (from 1410 /dýnamai, "able, having ability") – properly, "ability to perform"for the believer, power to achieve by applying the Lord's inherent abilities. "Power through God's ability"

(1411 /dýnamis) is needed in every scene of life to really grow in sanctification and prepare for heaven (glorification).

Satan robbed God's Creation of many things when he did His dirty deed in the Garden -----

Every where Jesus shed His Blood He Purchased back something that Satan took ------Our Health was Robbed by a thief in the dark --- Jesus purchased it back for us by and through the Stripes He endured ====there are 6 more places that Jesus shed His Blood to regain what was illegally Taken from us ----

Not surprised of the removal of the poster ------The Truth is offensive to unbelievers -----but to believers it is very powerful and Humbling and without the Shed Blood of Christ there would be no Healing -----This Scripture fits in with todays Topic of Healing
