This morning, I sat on the deck to have the coffee. September mornings seem to br quiet mid-week in this area. Mainly residents, people off to work or just enjoying the quiet like me.

I was reading, when I caught out of the corner of my eye, movement. down by the dock. A long slender animal with sleek rick brown hair was searching along the shoreline, and then went out to the dock and onto the small floater. Time enough to watch it do it's hunt. I think it was a min; however, may have been a weasel. I will see if I can see it again. Either way, s/he went along their business, further down the lake.

It was quiet too.

I love to see wildlife, undisturbed, in its natural setting
Last evening, while Seelerman and I were waiting for the news to come on, not paying much attention to the channel, I watched a large deer or elk with a magnificent set of antlers standing against the sky. Two men were watching it. Then suddenly, unexpectedly by me, they shot it. – Not with the camera with a high-powered gun. If I do realized I was watching a show, the TV would've been off or on another channel. My father for food and usually brought down a deer in the fall. We always felt sorry for the deer but grateful for the meat. We would never have considered killing a beautiful animal to be entertainment.

Yup ... sometimes ...

And they say patriarchy may attempt to put out the light of the lamb ... and thus blind discipleship ... and demands that nothing is questioned ... a paradox?

In a word my grandfather had strong opinions about nothing ... and intellect too! Words can be Sharp as a Knife When carving out an abstract form ...

Did you see that a Story as Sharp as a Knife made the cut in TIFF 2018? It could be allegory, anachronism or metaphor or something similar to that ... yet something else !

I am very happy we had rain yesterday morning and now rain again tonight. With over 400 fires still burning in the province-and some places on evacuation alert is is much needed. We are still smokey-it goes from 2 up to 5 and moves around. I would love to wake up and have it 0. and contrary to what the charts say I can not do do my normal outside activities at 2. and so today-before the rain-I went to the indoor pool and swam.

I was out on a paddleboard for the first time in my life after dinner yesterday.
It was both a challenge and a feeling of accomplishment, and , fun / scary at the same time.
Will try again.

Thankful for encouraging voices from the sideline

Did you fall off?
I don’t know if I had the balance to do that. Here in NS in my neighbourhood is a woman who is giving courses out on the ocean for women. With the fee the adults pay, she is financing girls groups which are also working on self esteem. As she put it ( on the radio)- “ if you are up there on the board, you have to fully concentrate and can’t think about how you look or what the others are thinking.”

I'm just back from a few days away at a cottage with two other couples - has become an annual event for us. It's an easy, relaxing, fun time together. And as pinga mentioned - quiet on the lake compared to summer. The first day & half were cold & damp, but we were outside a fair bit anyway and had the woodstoves on inside to cozy up quickly. Then the sun came out on Wed afternoon and the temperature jumped up about 10 degrees! Spent evening on the dock deck, wine in hand, watching the stars (well, mostly planets!) emerge from the gloaming. A heron flew by, low to the water - we only saw it in silhouette, but so graceful & silent. The last morning was spent with taking the boat out for the season, taking the dock apart & moving all the pieces to dry land, moving the boat lift out of the water ... etc Lots to do, but the day was beautiful for it. Then a kayak paddle in the afternoon for some of us, reading & chatting for others, drove home through the countryside in the late afternoon & evening light. Today I've spent a bit of time identifying some unusual wildflowers we found on our trek to the beaver ponds - figured out 2 of 4, so that's pretty good so far!!

@Mrs.Anteater . I went back out today, with life jacket on, and fell off twice when i tried to turn to head out further in the lake. The lake was refereshing, and I wnet back each time to go out. Third time was the charm and stayed up until i was by the dock to get off, and fell off trying to get off. Quite funny.

Came up Saturday night, it was nice here, sunday was nice but a bit crisp, monday was wet, which as fine, then, the week just kept getting better. Different family came and left throughout the week. Much canoeing, kayaking, paddleboard, swimming, flutterboards was done by all. Firepit with spider dogs, and smores. Baby cuddling, whispering, and snuggles with lullabyes.

Cribbage was played, and poker was taught.

We used the model where everyone makes a dinner, and we had more food than we needed. Lots of healthy food.

Today is my youngest's 25th birthday, and tomorrow will see us waiting to go home until after the beavertail place opens.

The colours are changing. Fall is on the way.

So, i invite everyone out to the deck, or the dock in our room.
There is a fire starting soon. You can go for a sunset kayak if you wish.
Up on the deck, you can see the sun starting to creep towards the horizon. The air is good. The hottub is waiting if your muscles are sore.

There is a bottle of red, and a bottle of white, and some beers and non-alcoholic beverages in the fridge.

Sit your weary bodies down.

Ugh. Too hot for a fire here. 27 and humid here, 28 tomorrow. Some chilled white vino would go down well. Especially after a 3 hour meeting with all the IT managers from our corporate group. Nice bunch of guys (sorry, no women in the current group) but, in case I haven't mentioned it before, I F-ING HATE MEETINGS!!

Should probably do the cottage thing again some day myself, but my family prefer to travel. We'll see about next summer.

There are some differences between a campfire outside to discourage the bugs, and solve the world's problems over, and an indoor fireplace upon which to warm one's cool bits, and also solve the world's problems.

Too hot for red wine here; I bought some grocery store sushi, which is edible on a hot night, and coupled it with a chilled rose.

Spaghetti here. Last night roasted a spaghetti squash in the oven, but it was a small one so the sauce & meat ratio to squash was too high, so today it was just normal pasta with the sauce.
