Is Ontario headed for another Wynne win?

Looking at the platform and the devil really is in the (lack of) details. Look at the education section.

Get back to basics: Scrap discovery math and inquiry-based learning in our classrooms and restore proven methods of teaching.
Get back to basics: Ban cell phones in all primary and secondary school classrooms, in order to maximize learning time.
Focus on the fundamentals: Make mathematics mandatory in teachers’ college programs.
Fix the current EQAO testing regime that is failing our kids and implement a standardized testing program that works.
Respect parents: Restore Ontario’s previous sex-ed curriculum until we can install a new one that is age appropriate and based on real consultation with parents.
Uphold moratorium on school closures until the closure review process is reformed.
Mandate universities to uphold free speech on campuses and in classrooms.
Provide an additional $38 million in funding for all children with autism, above and beyond the funding already in the government’s plan.

What this will cost:

Increasing Autism Funding - total $100 million over mandate.

Now, to be clear, I do agree with a few of these. It's not about whether I agree with the measures here. What I want highlight is the "What this will cost" section.

Are we really expected to believe that only the autism funding will cost money?

Revamping the math curriculum won't cost money?

Revamping teacher education won't cost money?

Revamping EQAO won't cost money?

Revamping sex ed won't cost money (dropping the new program in favour of going back to the one it replaced won't, but they talk about ultimately coming up with one of their own)?

Perhaps the PCs are assuming that there are existing costs that these revamps will replace making them a wash, but they should be saying that. I refuse to believe that that is even close to fully costed. And if their education platform isn't, likely nothing else is either. The question then becomes, how many of these promises will quietly disappear or get put off until after the next election once the costs, both fiscal and political, are fully known and understood?

Sweet. The Church thrives when there is persecution.
Is that why you do what you do? To feel persecuted? To feel closer to Jesus?

Being a jerk and taking flak for it, is not selfless. It is not admirable. It is manipulative and destructive. Which is an accurate description of what you do.

Days ago you pretended you had no idea how to vote, and only recently decided on the PCs. Now you're gloating at the PC win, which is just one more way you try to get people to hate you. Then when they hate you, you're "persecuted", and the cycle repeats. I think the majority of us see this pattern by now. Anyone who does not, couldn't find the pattern in a checkers board.

I don't know what it is to be that damaged that I actively want to be hated. I don't care if some people I don't respect hate me, but that's not the same thing. You strive to be hated, and you make this place less fun for everyone but yourself. I could discuss the pros of a Doug Ford government with someone, but not with you. You are not honest in your dealings with others, and you just want to generate hatred. I don't really hate you, though. It's closer to say I don't understand your motivations, and I happen to prefer it when you're not here. You're just a terrible person online. Opposing you isn't persecution, it's more like an immune system taking out a virus.

Why do I do what I do? I strive to participate in the missio Dei. However, I must also fight my old broken nature. From time to time it still pops out. My apologies for the times when it does.

Tis the "p" complex ... practiced by the simple ... especially when supporting church business ... a sacred thing ...

Part of the "do not know" syndrome!

Today’s paper has an interesting article about the minimum wage. I didn’t realise at the time it passed that they also passed a rule against paying lower than minimum

Didn’t know you could actually but they highlighted mainly intellectually challenged people who had jobs, but earned much less. Now, all those jobs are gone

There is a man at ourgrocery store. He is very sweet and hard working, he collects the carts. So I guess he is an example of someone given a job to earn a bit and to help self esteem but it isn’t a required position, so now they must pay $14 and so the jobs have disappeared.

Why it can b so dangerous to go with policy based on feelings...

(again the sheer stupidity of calling Conservatives callous or uncaring when stereotypically they know when making policy one has to consider actual facts, what is happening and what will happen...makes me think of talk of "moral decay" to have some truth to it in the sense of "we should do whatever makes us feel the best no matter the consequences" and not following g_dz will being isomorphic to the Conservative worry...)

Another concern is for the future of people like the guy at yer grocery store with our increasingly automated world and increasingly technically computerized world is that there will be less and less jobs available for unskilled or low IQ people...people as varied as Jordan Peterson and Thomas Sowell have been concerned aboot this...

Fun fact: there are more #prolife MPPs in the Ontario provincial legislature after yesterday’s election, than MPPs in the entire Liberal caucus.

Jae. If you are genuinely trying to participate in the missio Dei I would suggest some further discernment is in order. Are you here to explore theological issues? I often don't get the sense you are.

As someone who can be a bit pollyanna-ish at times and who is often willing to engage in dialogue even when common sense suggests otherwise, I have reached the point that I am no longer willing to engage in dialogue with you. I do not get the sense that you are remotely interested in conversation, only s**t disturbing and self-serving judgement.

You think paying a hard working disabled person the standard minimum wage for meaningful work is at fault? Maybe more employers should be creating jobs like that, and not be so greedy. I’m assuming it’s a supermarket, not a little mom and pop store. At the same time, no matter how big the company is - if they have a staff, they can put some thought into distributing the work load so that not everyone has to be strong in the exact same skills. It’s just a grocery store. Some onus has to be on the employer who offers low wage jobs that do not meet standard of living costs, to be a fair employer, not a glorified slave master. It’s sick that people have to work for a “living” that does not afford them to live a decent standard of living. Absolutely sick. But the CEOs don’t see it. And many don’t see the developmentally disabled as full human beings either...they think that just giving them something to do, for the benefit of those “above” them is good enough. Workhouses for the disabled are not reasonable and humane.

Ever notice that employers only required to pay minimum wage for labour, rarely pay higher than minimum wage? They rarely offer anything more than the minimum required by law. If it’s going to eat into their profit margin even a little bit, even if they still come out ahead, they just don’t even think of offering a better wage. That’s why the law has to require more from them....because of greed.

I was reporting on an article by parents of disabled adults. And passing on, as I did not know, that the rules had changed

I know that jobs perform more of a function than money. They give purpose and self worth

I also know locally , that employers have hired some disabled adults for that purpose. Not because there is actually a job to be done but to give some esteem

But I also know that businesses are not social services. It is not up to business to fulfill that function. Business is business. A for profit enterprise that provides employment and provides a product or service

Also in our small town is a small self funded adult day Center. In Ontario when mentally disabled adults reach 21 they can no longer attend high school. This group offers three days a week programs. It’s not free, but it is structure for the day. Recently a couple donated their hobby farm. It doesn’t mention on their web site if that couple have a disabled adult child or not. But now this group has a great setting and can add in animal care and gardening to their activities

I don’t expect my local food land to employ people they don’t need. But I had no idea the change in law contributed to this issue.

You on the other hand obviously think that businesses should also be social services and to hell with the costs and damage to the bottom line

In nb efforts have been made to get the people who have. Mental challenges into the work force. My understanding is that they earn at least minimum wage but the government subsidizes the employer. I dontk know the details.

To dangle bait is to invite choice. Bite or pass. Those who bite do so freely. As do those who pass. Blaming the bait is pointless.

Sometimes it sets off the fight or flight syndrome as part of the anger-fear part of the MB extension ... and those wishing not to know miss it in the pass (short for Don Quixote's uncomfortable bummers ... wile jousting at Eire ... a mental part missing?)

Such things can ripple through alien cosmos ...
