Long distance friendships suck

A friend I met while in England was in Vancouver and Victoria for the last week (and loved it). The last time I saw him was three years ago for a day at a friend’s wedding and 4 years before that. He had a brief 4hr stop over in Toronto on his way to Paris and then Benin (where he is currently living). He had hoped to have more time but was flying on a cheap mistake fare that couldn’t be changed without a huge jump in price. I managed to leave work early and meet him at the airport for a couple hours which was fantastic but far too short! Two hours every 3-4years is not enough! I am very very glad I got to see him, but I miss my long distance friends

I was at five oaks for a 2 hr meeting on Thursday, which grew to 3hrs, plus 1 hr of volunteer, then a 2 hr meeting on Friday, then, Saturday to Sunday for a volunteer hosting.

The lilac trees were in bloom, and the scent was glorious in spots on the property.
There were a gaggle of youth who were doing a work camp, and did a massive job on the gardens with their leaders, and worked on other areas of landscaping. Tons of energy, plus had campfire, played games, had worship '' "work and worship are one".
There was a crew of university age students who were from a Cahtolic parish of Asian descent, who had traditional gathering times with prayer in the chapel and quite contemplation as they thought about their life and futures.
There was a group of women working on their personal stories, writing under the guidance of an experienced writer & leader.
There was a wedding!

It is getting quiet now, I can hear the birds outside, only the writers and a few of the youth remain on the property.
I am sitting quietly, preparing for tomorrow, and reflecting on this space.

The crazy rain we had, combined with this recent heat as caused the gardens and lawn to just explode.

After five days mostly in bed, I finally recovered from the flu. It was a nasty one. Dr today gave me a note for another day off, which will help me to keep pushing fluids and actually start moving around more before returning to work.
Didn’t have much energy for anything and felt thankful to have a bed to rest, clean water, paid sick days and medical services if needed, thinking about the million of displaced people all over the world who do not have the basics.

Oh no Mrs.Anteater - I had hoped flu season had run itself out by now. Glad you are feeling a bit better - really tho - take some extra time to fully recover - we women often rush back to work a bit too soon, only to feel crummy for a lot longer. Be gentle with yourself.

I had thought so, too, did not get sick from work at the hosptal. Then went to Atlantic Friends Gathering last weekend. Had a good time, but fell sick after one day back- and so did at least five others, from what I heard. I wish we had only shared the meals...

Mrs.Anteater,, I'm glad that you are feeling better; partly for selfish reasons (ha, ha ).
Seriously, take care. You don't want to be sick at vacation time. And I've heard that flying while sick is the worst - if they let you on the plane.
Take care - and don't worry too much about getting the house ready for us. Seelerman and I are quite relaxed about housekeeping.
By the way - your garden looks delightful.

Seeler,
On this my last day of rest, I am trying to do things in installments, with 30 minutes restbreaks in between, noticing that I am still gett ing dizzy. I am doing the laundry right now, so you will have clean mattress covers. Because of gardening. I already have ‘t cleaned the house for a while- it was terrible to even be home for five days in bed, seeing the dustbunnies fly and not having energy to do anything about it. It will get done this week.
The tomatoes are outside to harden off, but I am worried to leave them out at night, it still is getting down to single digits and the last full moon is mid June. This might be a last minute thing to do.
I have to admit I haven’t been on WC that often since being stuck in bed with the flu.

My husband just asked if he could put the tomato plants in my beloved flower garden. We have a big garden space...and tomatoes have always been successful there. Not sure why he wants to put them in the flower garden. I haven't given my answer yet, but he saw my look.

Please don't squeeze the tomatoes ... there ...

Crop rotation? I try to move stuff around, to varying degrees of success.

Dear Mrs. Anteater, do not overdo it in recovery from your flu.

My husband doesn't always follow the rules of gardening, if there are any. Right now we have two or three trees that he has started...growing, yep, in the garden. I suggested that he take the trees out if he wants more space for tomatoes. He works hard to plant a great garden, and I am feeling a little petty about wanting to keep my flower garden for flowers...I get so much pleasure out of flowers!

My man is also 'greedy' about the available spots in the yard/garden. We had an almost empty palette to work with when we bought this house . I wanted it to be pleasant to look at and easy to maintain. He wanted it to contain edible items.

What we have is a mostly edible mess with fruit trees and bushes planted randomly wherever he put them. The spaces between are inaccessible and grow weeds that can't be controlled (too hard to mow). He 'allowed' a space for flowers that is against a wall, of varying width and too wide to deal with easily. I finish up trampling on front plants as I get to the back ones. About a third of it is under a fruit tree that means I need to lie on my tummy to get anything tidied up under it.

So much for pleasant and easy to maintain!

He really enjoys his fruit. Me? Some of it is ok but I shudder at the amount of sugar used for sour cherries, pincherry and chokecherry juice and syrup.

Yum to ice cream. We went on an ice cream shop tour on Sunday to see what is open. All but one was serving, and, of course, we had to stop at at least one of them!
