How was church today?

Nice service today. Baden-Powell "Thinking Day", so the sanctuary was swelled by additional young people. No real sermon, but some good "thinking pieces" - a story about an Olympian who "dared to be different", a rather well-done video of "The You-est You" by Dr. Seuss, and a nice story about role modelling. Even if we don't see very many of these young people on Sunday mornings, generally, it's nice to know that our Hall is being used so well by these programs. There was a little girl among the Beavers, which made me happy.

In honour of a 'complaint free world' - I really like that actually! - I shall say nil about the service. I found it very difficult on many levels.

On the plus side - I was counting after church and we balanced first time through! And I had a good conversation with my counting partner on some future church issues.

What am I missing, I have never heard a minister speak about "congregational behavior"

Congregational behaviour is the way congregations or maybe just some congregants behave

In this case the behaviour was "badly" and appeared to be based on "ignorance."

So I corrected the apparent misunderstanding and encouraged all of us to do better.

Excellent church service today. Our Youth Pastor gave a really good sermon based on the book of Habakkuk. The central message - let God turn your worrying into worship. The service was followed by a really tasty potluck. I enjoyed fellowshipping, chatting with old friends and making some new ones. After the potluck came our Annual Meeting at which, as usual, there was much love and unity.

Does depend to some extent on the talents of the facilitator. Our current chair learned from the last one - the Recognized Mistress of the Shortest Possible Meeting - moi...

Our chair has always been our Pastor. He does a great job. Our meeting took about 45 minutes. Highlights included a review of the 2017 budget, and the welcoming of two new members.

To be fair, I doubt that there was malicious intent.

At most, I think this was a misunderstanding communicated badly.

Certainly the injured party whom I spent a good deal of time with earlier had some misunderstandings of her own. She communicayed them quite clearly and maybe a bit naively.

Based on this one incident I don't think that we have a serious issue. It seems more one off. The injury was real so addressing it is appropriate first-aid.

Let's just say i have been to a few UU meetings where the parliamentarian was as much in charge as the chair.:rolleyes:

Today the sermon was on how we need to use our imagination more and be more childlike by having a sense of wonder and curiosity in how we live our lives. Closing hymn was John Lennon's Imagine. A good service to be at.

Our usual worship service was followed by a lunch and the AGM. Long meeting but went smoothly. Disappointment (that we were somewhat prepareed for if we had read the annual report) in that the plans for a major, major rebuilding project adopted enthusiastically last year is not feasible. Instead of tearing down our gym and kitchen (built in the expansion time of the 1960s) and partnering with a developer to build a four story modern office/commercial building on our property - with necessary space reserved for church activities - we will concentrate on improving and upgrading our present buildings. Both plans involved retaining and restoring our historic, unique, wooden sanctuary.
Despite all, our meeting went smoothly - we have professional engineers, accountants, lawyers, and university types on our Council -- some of whom know what they are doing. Our clergy generally open and close the meeting with prayer but keep a low profile, leaving the business to our elected professionals.

As infiltrated with imagination ... would that really have gone over badly with the pious and obstinate? It could pop up as a metaphorical relation ... sic irony?

Well....I did it....a reflection on 'profit' and 'worldly gain', the same week that the three churches in my life held their annual meetings. Although the message seems to have been well-received, the two-point charge didn't pay me for the last two weeks I led services. Mmmm. Maybe my message was too well-received!

Did an artifact get in the way of a modern development ...? I see that as an enigma ...

Really puzzling for a group that say we must progress, move on ... Lib Aral stoppage?
