Thank you Kimmio. My mom attends our Baptist church with us when she's here in Toronto for the winter. She attends a United Church when she's in NB in the summer. When we visit her in NB, we attend her United Church.

Tis good for the we -them enigma ... including the I enigma that in Nordic myth was the "self" and integral item ... that often raises the hackles of some that believe the divers is beta ... it may cause a hic in time ... temporal burp? Einstein and M L Engle were in agreement on the wrinkle ...

Our minister preached on the "H" Eros of self ... the heh derived from Hebrew ambiguity so as to express all that we don't know as hidden in the sub conscience! Tis a blind spot ... creation made it to prove a point ... often considered and ideal of the unknown ...
 
I had a rather neat experience yesterday-- I did a pulpit exchange with another pastoral church in our Presbytery, where I led a service of worship for what their former pastor nicknamed "Trash Sunday"-- a combination of Transfiguration Sunday and Ash Wednesday. (Several years ago, another pastor had tried, without notable success, to start an Ash Wed. service there. When that effort fizzled, she incorporated Ash Wednesday elements into Transfiguration Sunday.) We received ashes, and celebrated Communion, kind of a neat way to remember where we've come from, and recall where we're called to go.
 
Yep. We had them, with the requisite sausages, and the fake syrup, and the sorta redemption of some fruit salad to finish. I have a busy week this week at the church. Today it was pancake supper, a nominating team meeting, then my study group. Tomorrow I'll be there in the morning, then back at 7 for Ash Wednesday followed by Board Meeting. Thursday, there's a Refugee Team Celebration Planning meeting.
 
Sausages with pancakes was part of my process of becoming Canadian. I found it as odd as the melting Jello beside the hot foods at Christmas. My childhood in the UK included pancakes like crepes topped with brown sugar and lemon juice.

Brown sugar? Ours were sprinkled with white sugar (then lemon juice, and then rolled up). And that was dinner, on Pancake Tuesday. No meat, no veg, just a steady stream of crepes issuing from the stove. Mom ate when we were all finished, as I recall...

We used to put brown sugar on buttered pancakes at home (and sometimes both brown sugar and maple syrup, which likely explains my diabetes :rolleyes::D) but I never heard of lemon juice until a UK member mentioned it in a thread on my other board.

We used white sugar if we ran out of brown. Mostly dad made the pancakes and we kids stood in the kitchen doorway enthralled by his tossing ability. I kinda hoped he'd drop one sometime...............
 
was blessed to get to see Nutmeg sing with her fellow Lutherans at a senior's center in US so US spellin here)

wonderful songs
lots of energy
lots of residents joining in to sing
got to see some folks tear at some songs
(and one have to sit down for a good cry)

continuing to share in the common human experience
 
Did you know Luther is phonetically Luch in some traditions where they change a BS? Some hex it out as a spell on Luke ... just for playing fun on the morning star as it be fallen ...

Word an iconics ... you can do much with it to spook regular folk ...
 
We have our annual meeting today, as always, incorporated into our worship service. It makes it long, but we follow it with a potluck, which helps. Popped over yesterday afternoon and helped get tables and chairs set up for today to make it easier for our small Congregational Life team. It will be a dull morning, I'm afraid. Made a really nice quinoa and chick-pea tabbouleh for lunch. (The roasted beet falafels were not a success, and may be turned into roasted beet hummus today...)

We do that as standard practice at my church too. Have a potluck before business meetings. Get everyone nice and stuffed so that they're all more agreeable at meeting time.
 
The church I attend also does the annual meeting as part of the service. I'm not really keen on it...I think worship and business should be separate. But next week, I will lead worship at a church that will have their annual meeting after I leave. Before I knew this was going to happen, I started to write the message already. It's called: Our Profit. And I talk about money. Oops. Wondering if I should change it up.
 
The UU fellowship used to do it after church with a lunch but then moved it to a separate gathering on Saturday morning, which was a bit of a pain for me since Saturday was usually a "family day" for shopping, Little M's swimming lessons, etc. in those days (less so now that Little M has moved out). The fellowship's fiscal year starts May 1 so the ACM is usually in late May or early June (to give time for finance to close the fiscal year and prepare final statements).

We always sing the hymn "Worship and Work Must Be One" to sort of integrate it in the service. It's reasonably well done. Actually, our rev spoke, in her shortened message, of the ministry and appreciation we have for all of our volunteers, from those who pray, to those who bake, and teach, and sell tickets. And although her message was shortened, there was time for a short message from our Board Chair, and about 10 minutes of a slide show detailing many of the events that took place over the year.
 
Good service today. Pastor spoke from the book of Nahum about the God of Comfort. We also had a credobaptism. After the service came a small snack of cake, fruit and coffee to celebrate the baptism. Next week is our annual General meeting.
