Maybe. Though at our place we were not required to wear the Timmys pants. We could substitute in our own - so long as they were black or dark brown.

Being given a gift chosen for my biological gender with the implied message that is the real me.
This is supposed to be some sort of love and I am expected to say thank you.....
Yes ... this happens to us more often than not .....
By the way .... I am not talking about this being done inadvertently ..... I am talking about an ongoing dialogue.
It hurts ....... I would very much prefer no gift .... no card .... just leave me be....
Sorry ..... I know the thread was light ..... but do consider the times that gifts are used to send a message.

aaah, good point Rita.

I remember when a nephew of mine wanted Barbies. He so wanted a special Barbie house. His grandparents always went excessive and there were los of gifts for the kids, whatever they wanted. A big box generally full for each kid.

He opened the box and it was full of GI Joes. Grandma said "i'm not buying a grandson barbies".

It was a very sad moment for those who understood. She felt righteous. He was just sad but thanked his grandma as the kind young child that he was.

Pinga - that is a sad story. Quite different from a child in my extended family. He has asked for (and received) craft activities marketed for girls and a doll with hair that can combed and pretty fabric to sew. His dream gift this year (that he won't get) is a Brother Dream Machine sewing machine. Sorry - WAY too expensive!

My sister bought her grandson a toy kitchen when he was about two or three. He loved pretending to cook. As an adult he continued to cook meals for the family and for company.

All my life I wanted an electric train - never did get one but when he retired Seelerman joined a club and set up a train layout in the basement. I had fun helping with the scenery - building little towns along the tracks, stations, roundhouse, watertower, village church, school, homes.
