Then you will be happy to know that Cortana is coming to desktop Windows in Windows 10, due later this year.

I am not anti-MS. Windows 7 is my favorite desktop OS (I have tried a number of Linux builds over the years) and I have my fingers crossed that 10 will remedy the mistakes they made with 8. I do still use my old Hotmail account a bit and like the current MSN portal. Very nice for quick visits to get headlines and such.

Basically, I don't tie myself to a brand. I find a tool that does the job for me.
