I don't think the conversation is using the meme at all fairly. To be honest quite a bit of theological ignorance is at play on both sides.
First, the Bible is more than a book. The Bible is a library of books. Beyond that, a Library is where one goes to gain access to the thoughts of so many who have studied so much. It truly is more than printed page on paper. It becomes the air we breathe, the thoughts we think, the ground we are rooted in. In that regard, there is not a great deal of difference between wisdom as we acquire it as Westerners and wisdom as our First Nations brothers and sisters have acquired it experientially. What differs is the scope of what is known.
Claiming that God has written scripture on human hearts is one thing. Watching human hearts live that out is quite another thing altogether. And deeply discouraging that those who would readily make such claims stumble mightily when it comes to loving their neighbours.
One of the great lessons I have taken away from the Reformed tradition is that God is always speaking through all things and humanity can, if it desires, nurture its ability to hear what it is that God is saying through all those things. Reading words off the page is easy. Hearing those words whispered on the wind is much less easy. Hearing the stars sing the praises of God is much, much less easy. When we discount immediately those who have done the harder work of listening to the wind and the stars without considering how those testimonies are reflected in the written word or embodied in the living Word we demonstrate that we aren't interested in hearing God so much as we are in limiting how God may be heard.
The bible in your heart has lodged in the aorta, which explains why everyone can see that your heart isn't working right.Kinda dumb, since the Bible aka the word of God is already in the hearts of men
Scripture is not always reliable.....but that's another can of worms you can post scripture for.
Fear is a great motivator. Sometimes Christianity uses fear of death. Sometimes it uses separation anxiety against us. But there is also a fear of being wrong that motivates Christians to double and triple-down on claims. And then there is the fear of being laughed at, that makes them strike out in all sorts of ways.Following this thread, I wonder how much fear must be in a person who has to cling so violently to a book
