weight loss

I find it amusing the level of control people think they can maintain over their weight. We all have some natural set-points and limits at which we can maintain our weight with reasonable eating habits/reasonable exercise levels. However, losing large amounts of weight, and keeping it off, does not seem to be possible for most and, in fact, can set up "swings" where the set-point gets moved higher when one regains the weight. I've watched it happen with my sister and my sister-in-law over the years.

And yet I am successfully losing a large amount of weight.

Good luck. If I were a betting woman, I'd bet you'll weigh about the same this time next year as you did this time last year...

My lifetime strategy has been different. I weigh maybe 10 pounds more than I did 30 years ago; I'm still within the recommended BMI. I am a moderate eater, and I generally have a dog to walk.

Props to you Bette. Since that's the case, what brings you to the "weight loss" thread?

I found this explains quite a bit about our weight gains.
Full movie is on netflix.
I see lots about 'sugar-free' diets. I'm not a fan. Sugar is a class of many different molecules. Watching the amount of refined sugars added to foods is a good idea. Eating a sugar free diet is ridiculous though. I don't feel like that video covers a complex concept well.

I know people who maintained the same weight for many years without any special effort. Then they got into an accident and had to sit around for a long time, or they were put on meds for some disease or other. From then on they slowly, but steadily gained weight that doesn't want to go away.

Yes, it definitely appears that, without some effort to the contrary, we are destined to get fat... It's also interesting the role of fat in getting fat. We've been discouraged from fat in the last 50 years or so. Turns out that a decent amount of "good" fat is pretty important both for health and for weight management.

I think I'll stick with the dog plan. Companionship plus exercise (with the dog hair as a minus).

Yes Seeler, I'm so happy. :)

I'm glad that you are happy with your progress Jae.
I was just surprised. I've never met you in person, but somehow I never imagined you as a 'big' person - perhaps a bit overweight (as many of us are) and maybe out-of-shape (again like many of us), but not someone wwho would consider being down to 190 a success unless you started at something over 200. But then I have no idea how tall you are, how big boned, what your BMI is.
Our son is well over 200 pounds, maybe over 250. I would be delighted to hear that he had reached 190. But he is also a tall, broad shouldered, big boned man who is active and generally in good shape other than his weight.
Myself, I hover around 160. I would prefer somewhere around 145-150 but that last 10 to 15 poounds is hard to move.

Good luck in achieving your goal.

well I am under 190 but still heavier then I want to be. Calorie counting here I come tomorrow. 165 would be a good step along the way for me.

Did you waych the whole thing, not just the trailer? Because it is not about sugar free. There is plenty of sugar in fruit and vegetables.

Glycerides are complex ... except for the final rendering ... glucose ! Even drives the brain works ... with moderation ...

My 2nd circuit with true group circuit. There was Tabata thrown in at the end and while I wasn't doing true Tabata (not my 100% max) for some of the exercises I was getting close to high intensity.
This has been 3 classes, 2 circuit, one group where I'm not doing my usual and I am totally wiped out, sleeping lots after. I'm a bit confused if being this wiped out but no attacks is actually healthy.

No, I did just based it on what was posted. Did the entire thing cover the complexities better? As just one example for a sugars we don't tend to think about: our blood types are blood types because of sugar molecules and those aren't just on our blood, the majority of our cells have them. Many different proteins have sugars attached, so even meat is going to contain sugar.
