But Canada hinges in Ontario so not different

trudeau only needs to woo Toronto and he wins

Well, the GTA moreso than just TO but, yeah. The only solution in our system, though, is to scrap rep by pop. As long as we allocate ridings based on population and Ontario has a much larger population than other provinces and that population is concentrated along the 401 and 400 North and West of Lake Ontario, this will be the situation.

In the case of Pennsylvania, the issue is not concentration of population but the fact that the state is badly divided and allocates its electoral college votes by first by the post, so that whoever wins the state gets all of them.

So not at all the same issue. In fact, in another year where Pennsylvania was polling clearly Red or Blue, another state could be the lynchpin, whereas Ontario will almost always be a lynchpin in Canada unless it is badly divided, which opens the door to other populous provinces like Quebec and BC having more influence, but also frequently results in a minority.

I thought it was Florida that was the important state to win...?
That's another one. There's a lot of talk about Pennsylvania this election though as a state that went Trump last time but could go Biden this time.

Trump's going to make a big stink about absentee votes in Pennsylvania.

Ordering in the best pizza in the city for tomorrow night’s big party! Oh, and a little special beer.

Michigan gun stores sold out. They are not going to let the LLeft break into their homes and wreck the party.

Pace yourself and make it last. There may be no 'big party' until about Friday, when tRump's frivolous court cases will all have been laughed out of court, and the final vote totals can be ascertained.

That comment about guns is truely off the wall

what is wrong with Americans that they can’t have a simple election without violence. Or the threat of violence. It’s like suddenly they all realized they are actually a banana republic

elections come every two years in the USA. Just vote. Be happy, be sad. But there is no call for violence

after Trump won last time I loved the peaceful but impactful protests of women wearing pussy hats. Lest anyone forget his grab em by the p.... comment

the man is the most unsuited president they have had in modern history. yet he may still get elected. There are more stupid people in the USA than anyone realized. Except Trump. He knew it all along
but the idea that red necks with guns will start attacking the opposite side is truly unbelievable

Thank you, LP. You've illustrated a point that I've been pondering for a while.

You are clearly a conservative person and have probably voted that way in Canadian elections at both levels. I can respect that; while I cannot say the same, my mother was a PC supporter. You make reasonable points, I have yet to hear a rant, and you don't post reams of spurious bulls**t video from sources that make my browser say "sure you wanna go there?".

This whole polarizing, demonizing of all other points of view, to the point of blindness, is a fairly new phenomenon in politics, and I just wonder why the evangelical movement has wedded itself so firmly to this one particular party, and one particularly noxious example of the "best they can do". And only the most very selective/cherry-picking reading of the Christian and Jewish scriptures can justify their position.

Agreed. I also admire your civil approach LP. My mum was a progressive conservative and you sound similar. She wasn't a social conservative. As she said, she didn't liker waste (as she called it).

Never said that. Redneck trump people love each other, their country and way of life. It is 100% LLeft burning down cities.

It is 100% legal and sane to stop crazy people who try to enter your house and hurt you because you voted for law and order in crazy town. Minnesotans who have not participated in the willful destruction of their country are just cautiously preparing for the next wave of insane.

Rednecks are not insane. People get red necks from working hard in the sun. They don’t rip up other people’s hard earned work like a bunch of babies. They are also not pushovers.

"Red neck"/outside worker being conservative is more stereotyping.

The most "red neck" woman I know is 80, just sold her farm last year, did most of the work after her husband died. She's busy building new gardens at her new house, mulching leaves as she mows them to rake onto her rose beds. Her energy worries her neighbours and shames mine. She is as liberal as the day is long. I know, because I share bible study and progressive christianity study every week with her.

She'd never need a gun. She'd skewer you with those steel-blue eyes and ask you what the blazes you were up to!

One week of drinking for PG until the results are final and then another one over the loss of Trump.

It's still a term used in sociology. I remember the prof of my class saying - 10 yrs ago - that's it's becoming more political to use the term.

There are just too many swing states and most Americans haven't voted yet. This is how Trump's landslide happened when Clinton had a healthy lead.
I looked at the latest numbers today and even though Biden is up in certain states and Trump is down, there's plenty of room for a Trump victory.
I'm feeling Eeyore..ish.
