I find Peter Theil to be full of baloney - he sets up a false definition of multiculturalism to then knock it down. He projects a shallow understanding of what it is, why it is - and of history of oppression..
He then sets up a false definition of the purpose of political correctness (he says, it's to defend multiculturalism - that he already falsely defined and knocked down). I agree that political correctness can go overboard (and I have been guilty of taking it there at times and even been called on lacking PC) but there is an essential purpose for it - and that purpose is an effort to not diminish or demean further, or keep subjugated, groups that are already marginalized. And I think most of the time it's common decency and common sense. Or, should be. It gets a bit much when anybody can get overly offended by anything. But basically it's just "don't put down people who, if you stop to think about it, have it harder now, and historically, than you have. Respect their group identity as one of their boundaries and don't cross it out of glib disregard."
Trump is correct (as is Inanna) in that there is a small faction of "alt-left" or extreme left, that uses violence as a tactic against oppression - sort of like the Black Bloc - which is wrong. Fighting violence with violence will never work. It will never end well. I don't know if those types of characters were in Charlottesville...but the woman who was murdered was not one of them...she was standing up, non-violently, to white supremacy. I do know that it is intellectually dishonest to say that the grievances that White Supremacists have are equal to the grievances that the racial minority groups they've oppressed have.
