Those may be artificially created groups today. Right and Left is usually compromised of regular people. Perhaps we need to rethink things and work together better otherwise we'll be crushed by the oligarchs.

There are differences in ideology and policy positions on the left and right, for regular people. The right feeds power at the top because the right is very top down oriented. The oligarchs will buy positions and the right seems to have constructed themselves power advantage at the top to serve their own power, and influence regular people to keep feeding it...so, no I don’t think that’s a good idea. Unless people on the right become disgusted by what their ideology has led to. I doubt it. Reaching across the aisle, from left to the right usually means the person reaching across will get trounced.

No matter what Trump says the media- all of them turn it into whatever it is they are pushing. Russia, Russia, Russia. That wore out. Now it’s all racist. They don’t care about trade with China. They care about only how you perceive Trump. And they think you are so stupid that you can only think one thing at a time.

But they never let you watch what Trump said, they tell you what he said, out of context, and build some big fake structure around that. Every station is in lockstep.

So they are lying. What is the lie? What can be achieved by the lie?

I used to work with a liar. Once you know they are a liar, you cannot trust anything they say. But it is a good idea to keep up on what they say so you can predict where they are going.

What is the only other thing that is in the news besides pounding on Trump?

Setting aside Trump and the US, globally, what is the biggest lie in the world?

They may have been ‘artificially created’, most certainly, with propaganda - sometimes passed through generations - but the hatred and racism and antisemitism and fascism building from the right, by regular people doing the powerful’s bidding, is real. It is not artificial.

It was and is all of those problems: Russia’s undue influence because the dictators are in this right wing fascist attempt at takeover together - around the world (Trump admires the real despots, wants to be in that club. Despots govern from lies.), Europe, Brazil, Kashmir, China, Russia, US....racism, sexism, antisemitism, quashing dissent...coming from Trump’s administration and his attempt to coordinate an arm’s length state media loyal to him. Now Fox went a bit off script...Trump is freaking out. Maybe some of them will decide their first obligation is to be journalists, not Trump loyalists. It’s all from a fascist playbook - a bunch of lies - and you are willfully ignoring it.

What is the biggest lie in the world? I think the biggest lie in the world is the idea that Trump’s a hero...that any of these dastardly powerful men are heroes.

People who are on the right side of the political spectrum are neither ignorant or oblivious to the troubles in the world. They just believe they have different solutions

Rich people on the right are just like rich people on the left. They give lots to favourite charities and efforts.

People on the left have just as many biases as those in the right

Perhaps, if you stopped stereotyping people you would better deal with differences

I abhor trump. He is an absolute moron in my opinion. But I cant ignore the market is at its highest ever. The USA economy is booming. Perhaps sputtering right now, recessions come eventually but he is right. The fed raised interest rates too much and too quickly and now its sputtering

But here we sit with our self proclaimed feminist PM. Who won’t release his ethics commissioner to tell what is going on. Who won’t release 7 people, whoever they are to testify. Maybe oligarch is not the right word. Labels don't really matter. The point is, the people in power want to keep the power. Trump is part of that. The Clintons are part of that. The Kochs and whoever owns a chunk of the world these days.

Yes, and Trump has shown over and over again he is a liar. He denies doing or saying things that he has been recorded as having said or done.

Worse. Trump killed Trudeau on nafta. And then handed him his a$$ with China.

The US tells Canada to arrest the computer boss from China when she arrives in Canada and hold her as a spy. So what does Canada do? What they are told. Then they are between a rock and a hard place. Hold her and all materials we used to sell to China, no more.

Well at least pork is almost free now.

What should Canada have done? Maybe phone China and tell her not to visit? It’s costing us big bucks and it was so stupid. We cannot afford this kind of leadership. It’s funny for a little while to let the kids pretend to be adults. Let them steer while you operate the pedals. But it is time to get control before we need a tow truck to get us out of the ditch.

Trudeau’s not on the left. He just campaigned that way. I might only have to vote for him because of Scheers white nationalist dabbling. It’s not worth any economic gains to vote for anyone on the right because of that, because of balancing a stupid budget. Balanced budget with bigotry as a condition? No f’ing thank you. I lost respect for all right wing political positions. The biggest difference right=top down...monied lobbyists/ oligarchs , left=bottom up...grass roots people focused, marginalized from their own neighbourhoods, unions and communities fighting top down policies, but without the oligarch money...one can see why the power inherent in authoritarianism tends to generate from the right...along with the bigoted positions that creep in with it. Plus, the right always cuts from the bottom. I can’t respect that. I don’t think there are any obscenely rich oligarchs on the true left...union/ labour supporters, etc. Can’t think of one because the left is opposite to and opposed to oligarchy. To be an oligarch you have to roll with the crony capitalist right, and to be on the crony capitalist right you inevitably support oligarchs whether consciously or not - they’re co-dependent.

Plato defines oligarchy as a system of government which distinguishes between the rich and the poor, with the former taking the role of administrating economic structures. This is what we now experience, is it not? Government serves the agenda of corporate powers? Democracy is a game played to manipulate the population by pretending the population's interests are being served?

A meeting of the minds is what I am pressing for. Not easy where disparagement of others is employed in the place of respect.

No. Left does not equal grassroots and right does not equal top down. Left/ right, authoritarian/libertarian are four quadrants. One can be left and authoritarian or right and libertarian.

Vote Compass

I would lean left and libertarian. The two areas are not incompatible.
