TRUMP - Some people think......... How do you feel?

Here's a classic case of fake news from CBC which is, of course, entirely fake. If this story were true, our oil barons would have told us about it a long time ago. They're real, real smart. And Christian. Our local one even built his own church, naming it modestly after his family, The Irving Chapel.

Remember the wooly mammoth and the Sabre toothed tigers?
If anyone does, it would be you.

Unfortunately the foster system also needs a tune up and is worthy of some critique. I haven't read the article posted here. I do know there are systemic issues which the powers that be have allegedly been trying to address over its lifetime. More First Nations children are now in care than were in residential schools. Yes, many of those parents have had their struggles and have not done well in the parenting department. It is still a sign of systemic racism among other things. But I digress. I think the difference with this detention centre is its reason for being. That's another systemic issue.

I gave one example from the early 1900s. I gave at least a dozen from now.

Are you as dumb as you appear to be? Or is it just an act?

I mean, surely nobody can be that dumb.
Graeme, 200,000 dead Guatemalans, while tragic, has nothing to do with Canadian miners. If I am wrong, please provide a link. I found something about 40 Guatemalans.

As I said, I know miners. I know one that if you said he was in Guatemala and has been charged with littering, I would know those are false charges.

As well, for miners to kill 200,000 people is ridiculous. If they were told hey this is guatemala, keep this gun beside you and shoot every Guatemalan that comes over that hill, they wouldn’t be there.

Miners are no different than plumbers or hairdressers.

My daughter is considering adopting instead of having her own because of the foster system. She ran the idea by my wife and I a few weeks ago to see if we would approve.

Mining in and of itself is not the problem here. It's a necessity and legitimately employs a lot of people in various countries.

The problem is mining companies behaving unethically or illegally while governments turn a blind eye. It's not the only industry suffering from this problem (the arms industry comes to mind as another).

We can have mining without this behaviour and that should be the goal, not "end mining".

The solution is an international standard for corporate behaviour, else companies which come under fire in their home country might just move offshore. Meanwhile, though, Canada does have laws around corporate behaviour in foreign companies. Enforce and strengthen them. Sure, that might send them offshore, but at least we're not in the position or condoning their actions or turning a blind eye.

Revsdd asked for an example. That is the first one that came up and I needed go no further. Sorry it’s 4 years old. Graeme gives me examples from the 1800’s.
When you find an example of children in Canada being forcibly removed from their parents and placed in mass detention centres without their parents, let me know.

We can debate the foster home system. It has its problems no doubt. But it's an issue different from what we're talking about

And wait. I thought of a historic example. Residential schools. That worked out well for the children.

It proves that children are being taken from people in Ontario who break the law! It doesn’t matter what the article is about.
But it does not prove that. Because it does not prove (or really even claim) that those parents broke the law. ANd even if that is why the children are being removed THE law in question is that they are being removed for the protection of the children. THat is a very different situation from waht is happening in the US.

Hi,
Great, find me the strong anti-authoritarian side now, because I don't see it. This is Christianity in action now. This is what people associate with Christianity today.
This insight is worth taking seriously. I have found it to be relevant to both Liberal and Conservative Christian perspective and commitment. A primary reason for my ceasing to identify as Christian.

George
