Yes. And unless I am completely out of it because of sickness, I would have a problem with that. And I can imagine any woman with a history of abuse could have a problem with that. It's a change because of lack of money and hospital rooms, not because they want to make transgender people more comfortable.

I think it was the very next day that the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said that no orders or directives had been given to the military. Rumour has it that conservative Republicans were threatening to block funding of "the wall" unless Trump denied funding for surgery for trans people in the military. He went one step farther and said he'd ban trans people from the military. Whether he actually goes through with it and turns his tweet into a policy directive is an open question. He tweets a lot. Most of it just seems to be the ranting of an angry man who's responding to the last thing he heard.

The official memo has gone out so, no, this wasn't just bluster.

Trump officially bans transgender people from military

Trump has now officially rolled back human rights. And Pence was probably involved or supportive given past history so getting rid of Trump is no longer enough.
 
A few months ago I was in Regina General Hospital and there was a very ill man in the bed next.

We were both too sick to care.

The tweet about this followed a Trump meeting with evangelical leaders. Only one member of Trump's evangelical advisory board has resigned in protest over his emerging values and behaviour. That is in contrast to many industry advisory boards that have seen mass resignations. Corporate America, it appears, has less tolerance for bigotry than evangelical America.

Multiple marriages? Trump's proven himself to be a one (at a time) woman man. Unlike some other presidents who shall go nameless.

Would you bet on that when some of the bible authors ... were singularly plural in their tastes for women? Consider Henry VIII author of what's known as the great bible as it got the monarKISS'd a long way past the divorce laws ...

As I anticipated would happen, Defence Secretary Mattis has basically told the president to stuff it with his ban.

He established a panel to study the issue and bring him a report that he would then present to the president. No word on how long the study will take.

From the report:

“'Our focus must always be on what is best for the military’s combat effectiveness leading to victory on the battlefield,' Mattis said. 'To that end, I will establish a panel of experts serving within the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security to provide advice and recommendations on the implementation of the president’s direction.'

Mattis added that panel members 'will bring mature experience, most notably in combat and deployed operations, and seasoned judgment to this task.' The panel will 'assemble and thoroughly analyze all pertinent data, quantifiable and non-quantifiable.'

The Pentagon chief said that once the panel makes its recommendations and he consults with the secretary of homeland security, he will provide his advice to Trump. In the meantime, current policy regarding transgender service members will remain in place, Mattis said, meaning that those already serving can continue to do so."

Please note the highlighted words. I interpret them as a pretty blatant shot at Donald Trump's lack of such mature experience and seasoned judgment. Mattis and the military commanders ("my generals" as Trump calls them) have become rather uppity against their commander in chief recently.

Just finished reading that story myself. Once again, we have the saner heads using their experience to reign in the hot head policy decisions. Which illustrates what this administration really lacks: maturity and (government) experience.
 
Anyone seen the evangelical response to Mattis' announcement? That will likely drive Trump's reaction.
 
A group of evangelicals have just released Nashville Statement

A few statements from it...

"WE DENY that adopting a homosexual or transgender self-conception is consistent with God's holy purposes in creation and redemption."

"WE AFFIRM that it is sinful to approve of homosexual immorality or transgenderism and that such approval constitutes an essential departure from Christian faithfulness and witness."

"WE DENY that the approval of homosexual immorality or transgenderism is a matter of moral indifference about which otherwise faithful Christians should agree to disagree."

"WE AFFIRM that the grace of God in Christ enables sinners to forsake transgender self-conceptions and by divine forbearance to accept the God-ordained link between one's biological sex and one's self-conception as male or female."

Isn't evangelical a rising of Eve as a shadowy time? That happens variously dependant on where you are when the sun goes down ... a time for obscure sects so the priests in power don't see the bending of knees ...
