So basically you have to have known the Holy Spirit in order to Blaspheme her?

@unsafe has suggested Paul spoke evil against Christians, not against the Holy Spirit.

We know that Paul persecuted Christians before his road to Damascus experience.
But the words he uses in Mark includes blasphemy....trying to clarify what that means.

Jesus says that sins and whatever blasphemies people utter will be forgiven. The only exception He outlines here is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. And 3:30 suggests to me that the Pharisees blasphemed against the Holy Spirit by saying Jesus had an unclean spirit.

Agreed that more clarity would help us.

paradox3 ----your quote ----Does this take us back to the house which cannot stand when divided against itself? I am thinking of the indwelling nature of the Holy Spirit.

unsafe says -----not sure what you are saying here ----??

Also where does it clarify that his blasphemy was against Christians and not the Holy spirit? Is this elsewhere in scripture or is it an assumption?

Well, if the Holy Spirit is indwelling and we blaspheme against the Holy Spirit, could we be seen as "dividing" our own selves? Or our own houses, to express it a little more poetically?

Waterfall ---all this means is evil speaking or slanderous ----so Paul never spoke evil or slanderous against the Holy Spirit ---The scripter never indicated that Paul spoke against the Holy Spirit ------you have to accuse the Holy Spirit of being Evil ---

unsafe says -----Waterfall ---Show me in the scripture you posted that says he blaspheme the Holy Spirit

I cannot show you that but can you show me scripture where it says his blaspheme was against the Christians?
Just saying....do we REALLY know what he blasphemed against?
Does Hebrews 6 and Hebrews 10 tell us you have to have known the Holy Spirit first and then speak out against her to commit the unpardonable sin?
Could this be why Paul doesnt commit blaspheme because of his ignorance and @chansen is unable to do so?

unsafe says ---I personally believe that anyone who has the indwelling of the Holy Spirit would not say one word against the Holy Spirit ---but that is just my opinion -----There is backsliding but that does not affect Salvation ------

I have a bit of a different view on the idea of the unforgivable sin. I could be wrong, I have never really studied it, because it is not much of a concern to me. But most of the things I have heard by others, I find a bit unsatisfying.

My thoughts are that everyone who goes to hell has committed the unforgivable sin. They are unforgiven. It is not a difficult thing to do. chansen has succeeded. If he dies as is, he gets his wish. He remains unforgiven.

But, if he were to repent and turn to Jesus and die in that state - he would be forgiven.
So to me, it is your state when you pass on, or Jesus returns that will determine whether you are forgiven or not.

Waterfall ---Paul did not Blaspheme the Holy Spirit ----Paul was against Christians ---God called Paul for a certain purpose to become a preacher to the Gentiles -----If Paul was a blasphemer of the Holy Spirit and God picked Paul after he blasphemed the Holy Spirit --the that would make God a lair ---and that is the Truth

See my above edited post with regards to Chansen in regards to ignorance. He may know about the Holy Spirit but not know the Holy Spirit. What do you think?

No it would make Paul a liar....just trying to make Jesus and Pauls words be the same by using scripture.(Hebrews 6 and 10 for instance)

Pontifex Geronimo 13 -----I feel you are not wrong here ------as I don't believe personally that after the New Covenant came in it is relevant for today ------unbelief is the order for today -------

worth the read -----I am just posting just the last part -----

HOW DOES SOMEONE TODAY BLASPHEME THE HOLY SPIRIT?

How Does Someone Today Blaspheme the Holy Spirit?

. People today are not in the same situation as when Christ was physically present.

2. Today one blasphemes the Holy Spirit by rejecting the ministry of the Holy Spirit that speaks of Christ.

3. Thus the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is the state of unbelief in Christ as Savior. It is more of a continuing and persistent rejection of the Holy Spirit than one particular sin.

4. The only way to avoid the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is to turn to Christ for forgiveness.
