Well, We have two dogs weighing the covers down most of the year. Which means not a lot of cover stealing going on.

Just never get out of bed or toss anything off because you will never get it back.
 
I have one immutable rule. No critters on bed while sleeping at night. Door closed. Critters elsewhere. During the day, there is a "dog blanket" over the bed, on which the dog may lie. Or the cat. In a rather amazing moment couple of weeks ago, they both had a nap on the bed during the day at the same time. Dynamics change when you lose/change # of critters.
 
We do not allow dogs on bed either...which is my husband's rule.
Having stayed at a home which has tics, I really am thankful that he set the norm in our house.

Our cat gets on our bed and I would gladly not have that, but we never remember to shut doors.
 
We don't allow the dog on the bed. Cats in our lives though have slept on or in the bed. That was preferable to hearing them holler outside the door.
 
During my childhood I used to fall asleep with aa cat purring near my head. Since then, whenever we've had a cat it has been welcomed on the bed.
Dogs - no. We tend to like medium to medium/large dogs (Springer Spaniel / lab / mixed retriever-type) but even when we had a shih hzu they weren't allowed on the beds or furniture. They had their own bed, as well as mats scattered about the house for laying on. Often the dog and cat shared the same mat - with the cat using the dog for a pillow.
By the way, did you ever notice that if you lay an item of clothing on the bed for a few minutes, that is where the cat will choose to sleep? And that black cats are drawn to white sweaters while lighter coloured cats prefer black slacks?

And some folk believe not in the grey areas constructed by putting black and white together ... twilight zones ... as areas of motive alteration!

We've adopted the European way of having a duvet with a washable cover instead of having a sheet. It works a lot better for us. We only have one duvet that we have to share though.

also for most of my unmarried life i had (and still have tucked away stored) a Daniadown duvet with cover. it has a lot of mileage on it. lots of cat cuddles too.
