@Pinga - Hand pies are probably the most useful traditional baking done by women around the world.
They can be wrapped in pastry, bread dough, puff pastry or phyllo.
They can be sweet or savory.
They can be round, square, triangular, rectangular or cooked in muffin tins.
They are also known as pasties, pocket pies, empanadas and turnovers.

Did you have one?

By women Kay? Men never make them?

Men can make anything they wish if you listen to the tails in the bible ... consider that a'mon even made a whoa mon just for the ribbing and called it a bote ... thus a vessel to transport stuff from one strange state to another ... from one soul to another soul by the strange process of mingling ... or entanglement! Thus the mental mess people get into when the psyche is preserved (saved for what?).

No one will agree to consume an archaic mind! Old thoughts are just not useful at present ... until someone catches on to the Ayres hidden there that could be wrong ... alas, so many yes men ... that are misconstrued as why'es men. A sad tale for a sad ending ... always that wee dangler ... thorny issue as the one horned creature ...

No reason why men couldn't bake anything they want. In traditional societies, which is where hand pies originated, it basically didn't happen. As civilisations 'matured' men ran shops based on the old style womens work - so we got bakeries, tailors etc. and the women stayed at home with responsibility for the children and non income producing work like family meals, laundry and such like.

When I was a child I didn't know any fathers who changed diapers, prepared food on a regular basis, cleaned the house etc. Even today my observations don't show many men doing much of this type of work as a regular thing I know several women who are in their twenties and thirties who walked away from their marriages mainly because of this issue.

Which I find sad as a Dad in his 50s who did/does all of that (haven't changed a diaper in years though I did when Little M was, well, little, but I do a share of the cleaning and some cooking). This was supposed to be changing with my generation. Women working outside the home, men raising kids, and so on. The fact that these battles are still going on is rather disheartening. Hopefully, Little M is getting the message from what he sees at home rather than society.

Glad to say Seelergirl's new partner pitches in around the house on a regular basis.

I had a weird night last night. Bed as usual between 10:00 and 11:00. Read a few pages of a novel, put out light and discovered that I was still staring at the shadows on the ceiling at 1:00 am with sleep no where on the horizon. Got up and took a sleeping pill, read another page and put the light out again.
Seelerman tells me he looked in on me at 8:00 before he left for his morning coffee club; I was snoring gently. When he returned an hour later he giggled the bed and I stirred and spoke to him. At 10:00 the phone startled me from a sound sleep and I got up to answer it (my friend chaatted a few minutes, then excused herself, phoned back later to see if I 'was awake now'. Wow! I haven't slept like that in ages. Usually I'm up around 6:00. Seven oclock is sleeping in at my house.
(I've taken a sleeping pill, occasionally, in the past - never slept past 7:00 or so).

I's almost noon now - I haven't had morning yet.

My sleep is all over the place right now. I seem to be doing a fair bit in 2 different stretches. Our furnace fan is currently being fixed, hopefully that will help. I don't mind napping, but when I'm still getting 10-12 hours splitting that into 1/2 and 1/2 stretches or 2/3 and 1/3 the hours can be strange. My most active hours seem to be late night, so I'm going with it, but I have to be careful with what I decide to do so Chemguy can sleep.

*sigh* More changes with how things are handed out. I can now go to the closest hospital which is good. I found out I have to fax my logs to get a similar supply as to what I was getting previously though. Would be nice to be told this sometime before need to do another order!

Also, the supply thing is odd, I can't get it separately, they count out what I need based on # of doses BUT I now also need to tell them what I need.

The issue I really have is there seems to be a change every order or 2 I make and it seems like I'm expected to know these changes. Like I was asked where I usually pick things up and where I live - and then I was asked why I'm not going to the other hospital as it's closer.

keep on tho chemgal. Think back to how it was before diagnosis and treatment. Yes it is frustrating and not smooth sailing but it is getting better.

As my friend & I sometimes sigh heavily and say "if only we ran the world ... " ;) There are so many little bits to be frustrated about it ... it's a matter of not getting too fussed, at least for me. Recently I had to book a pre-op & a pap smear with my GP - but NO - this could absolutely not be done in the same appointment!! So I go on Friday for one, and the following Tuesday for the other. Makes no sense to me, but not something I can change, so just going along with a good book to read in the waiting room!

Well, it looks like Toronto's baseball season is over ... so I'll have find some other obsession for a while! I must say, I've done a lot of knitting while watching all those games recently.

Spent this afternoon in the garden - cutting stuff back, getting ready for the winter. My least favourite time of year in the garden - bidding farewell and saying thanks to all the beauty of the season. I have some more bulbs to plant - so as I tidied, I contemplated where I might tuck them in. I also enjoyed the beautiful sunshine, and the birdsong ... there are still lots around. And as I puttered, I was thinking that maybe when I retire I could hire myself out as a 'garden mentor' - teaching & helping out people who are new to gardening, maybe those who've bought a new place & need to figure out the garden, or are doing garden renos, teach them each season what's needed, how to prune etc. ... interesting possibilities

I think I was just more frustrated as I'm still not done with medical alert. I had a phone appointment set up, waited for more than 2 hours, called and still had to wait for the person to call me back. I was supposed to be sent an email as well - never got that. I wonder if the prepaid envelope was sent? Hopefully things go well with the new plans for the medication now - new location to pick up so hopefully that goes smoothly at least!

What's the pre-op appt for Carolla? I hope you're well!

I love this idea! Not just a landscape designer, but an actual consultant to help folks maintain the garden they have. Maybe a field trip to a Garden Centre together to talk about which plants would do well in different parts of the yard. If we were in the same province (and I owned my home), I would be your first customer!

Hey folks, happy fall day. It is beautiful in s. Ontario.

I am thinking of next spring in my garden. Looking forward to time to rebuild. Will need a bunch of digging and aggressive Purging of violets, but it is all good

I am on my way to treatment, enjoying visiting.

It's become routine with getting my medication, every time they say they haven't received logs. I have no idea where they even read that info from, as they sign off when I bring them. I should ask next time!
This time they said they have nothing since March. (n)

Carolla, I would have hired you as a mentor in a moment when I was still able to do some gardening. I always had questions about my perinneals. Now I would need more than a mentor. I need hands-on gardening to maintain what i have.

Ah, yes, the five year plan. (That's mine, anyway...) Hugs, bit of an unpleasant day or two, but I use it to catch up on my Netflix...
