I worked like a demon today. My only breaks were on WC2, or to drink, which has been surprisingly fun. Normally, drinking makes me fall asleep. Which is something that is due to happen any time now. I'm not exactly the life of the party when drunk. First, I don't get invited to the good parties. There is no second point.

While I'm drunk, did I mention my bike races this week? Did two of them. The second one was spent in a dire struggle with another rider. The first, I was mostly on my own. Actually, I don't think I saw another rider. I was behind the leaders, ahead of the middle pack, and that's just where I was. So, I started chatting to Carter. I know what the bastard would say. He was a little version of me, after all. He kept telling me not to brake, as he always does when I'm racing. He had nerve. Lack of nerve is what kept me from making the Southern Ontario Division ski team. As a consequence, I hit a tree.

I hit three of them on the next race (one hard), but on the first race last week, I hit one tree.

I complained to Carter, "You made me hit that tree!"

"You're okay, Dadda!" He replied.

"Easy for you to say, you're dead."

"That's not your fault, dadda. You couldn't have known."

And....I lost it.

Carter tried to cheer me up. He said, "Hey, it's okay. I had a good life. I probably groped more tits than you did."

I laughed. But at the end of the race, I needed a few minutes to console myself.

I worked a half day today, worked on my own lawn with some sod and topsoil left over from a jobsite, have a little more of that to do, then I'm going to enjoy multiple rum and cokes.

BTW, we have named the fetus. Phonetically, it is "Tino", but it's actually an acronym, "T.N.O.", short for "The New One". Our daughter was "Phyllis the Fetus". Carter was "Perry the Parasite". We really shouldn't be allowed to name these things.
Hey - my husband's name is Tino!

Best bit of my day was epic - I got to have an extended personal chat with Raffi!! yes - he of the Baby Beluga fame :-) I love his work with the Child Honouring initiative - http://www.childhonouring.org/. Bought his great CD titled "Communion". He was at the Salt Spring Island market, as I now imagine he often is, but I was surprised to meet him at the time.

Oh wow - Raffi?! That is so cool. I haven't really kept up with his ventures (unless I see it on FB) - I'll have to check out the CD!

When I was five we saw Raffi in concert. Afterwards we could get his autograph - he chose me to help guide the kids and held my hand - I was over the moon!

It's funny I don't remember the beluga song.

"I laughed. But at the end of the race, I needed a few minutes to console myself."

Thus the consolation of a whine that would bring a person to tears with the light of the situation of an "out of mine des tate"
... some say OBI!

Such things assist to express things that other folks don't desire to hear ... thus the entanglement state ... chaos in literary function ... literary de vices. Thus not grasping call them the devil, or deviate from properness of gray Mere ...

Aah, Chansen. It isn't your fault. You couldn't have known.

Glad you didn't hit more trees
Hope you slept well

I'm home from a delightful overnight at the cottage with little girls to bring laughter and giggles, and wine for the evening

Justme, here is the baby beluga song.
Sang it many a time to my kids....bedtime, car rides.

@Carolla , Raffi wasn't there when we were on saltspring with @Motheroffive , and @somegalfromCan

It was cool to be in the place though that he frequents, and of course, the company was wonderful. Met @Witch there too.

Baby Beluga - I remember running across this song and singing along when I was researching beluga whales for my novel Ship's Boy.
Beautiful song. I think my kids were born too soon for Raffi - I don't remember singing it with them.

I came across some restaurent gift certificates the Seelerman and I received last Christmas. We decided we better use them now and hope for more this Christmas - which is coming up sooner than we realize. So we phoned Granddaughter to meet us for a late lunch. We had a delightful visit. I can't remember the last time we went out for lunch - just the three of us. No little brother to include in the outing. No Mommy - which puts her in the 'kid' position. Just the three of us enjoying each other's company. She is nervous about starting university in a few weeks - but seems prepared. She'll be living at home and attending UNB, a stone's throw from here. Seelerboy attended there and walked to and fro. She has enjoyed her two summer jobs - Gap store and babysitting. She asked questions about our siblings and our parents (her great-grand parents) And I found out that she didn't know that she has to be registered to vote in the up-coming election. She thought that she could just go to the poling station on election day, identify herself, and vote.
A warning - if you know any young people or others who are eligible to vote for the first time, make sure that they know about getting registered, having acceptable ID and voting. Don't take it for granted that just because they are intelligent and 'with it' they will know.

I did hit more trees. Three of them the next night. He won't let me brake. The worst one, I was on the back tire of another rider and clipped a tree at speed. Forced my handlebar to the left and launched me. Grazed my knee, but landed on my feet. That sense of self-preservation kicked in again.

See my post in politics about this. Yes, you need to be registered BUT it can be done right before you vote, at the polling station.

Went out to lunch today with my Yobo and my best friend and his wife. Harvey has a good deal going right now - 4 can dine for $19.

It cost me $54.00 for lunch for three at Montana's - I had a gift certificate for $50.00

That seems pretty good for Montana Seeler. Does that include alcohol, desserts, and gratuity? You're where, like Bathurst or something? I didn't even know there's a Montana there.

Fredericton - no drinks - our granddaughter is only 18 and drinking age in NB is 19. (Also I have never known her to take a drink - not even when offered a bit of wine with a special meal) - and since we live in the city (Fredericton) we find it easy and a lot cheaper to have a before-meal drink at home if we are having one. No dessert - Seelerman is diabetic and Granddaughter and I are trying to eat sensibly for our weight. Eating at Montana's is pushing that a bit but we considered lunch together to be a special occasion - also we could have tea and dessert at home. It doesn't include gratuity - a nice young man gave excellent service and wwe gave him $8.00.

Yes, eating out has become quite expensive but then, so too, has food. Made dinner for my beloved last night, and a simple meal of sliders, fresh veg and a peach pie with ice cream would easily have cost me $15 in ingredients to make.

Montana is a nice restaurant too. It became a tradition of my seminary cohort to go there on the second-last night of our annual retreat in Caledon (about 90 minutes north of Toronto). Sorry to have mixed up Bathurst and Fredericton there Seeler. Have you ever tried Miletone?

Yes, all food's pretty expensive these days. Back when I was a kid (mid 70's) my mom used to go shopping and spend $50 per week to feed seven of us (two parents plus five kids). Hard to believe. My Yobo does a pretty good job at not spending too much. We get our groceries mostly at Food Basics.
