Good morning! Day 3! As we deal with lingering leftovers, and odd weather for this time of year (raining here, again) may we continue as families continue to celebrate and make memories, let us gather rounds the Coffee Cart, and chat about whatever is on our minds, indulge in virtual hot beverages and baked goodies, catch a breather before we need to get back into the rush of things. All is ready, c'mon in!

Yesterday included a few hours surrounded by daughter's family. A delicious meal was served and devoured by the four adult grands and three partners. Also enjoying some together time was two sons, a partner and child. Fifteen all told.
There is a possibility that a grand from my other daughter may come today with a partner. This grand recently changed their name and I'm going to find it challenging to use the new one. Unfortunately it seems necessary for this part of our family to avoid two of my kids as they are not gay friendly. We are mystified by the fact we raised four children and two are anti gay, anti coloured folk, anti immigrant etc.. The other two are quite different in their attitudes and viewpoints.

We had a weird Christmas dinner: Went to our favourite sushi place with Little M. and Mrs. Little M (fish and seafood are halal). Then yesterday we had her folks over for tea (i.e. I finally met my son's in-laws). Nice couple and her dad's had quite the life. He works in Houston, TX so this was a bit of a rare opportunity to meet him.

Today is my down day between entertaining and being entertained. I might call a friend and go for coffee. But if I do, and she's not home....I'll enjoy a time with nothing much to do. Preparing to do a church service on Sunday. I always get the 'low' Sunday to help our minister get a break. I don't mind. I'm not that inspirational!

Yeah, that's interesting. My middle brother and I differ to some degree on faith matters. He is Christian Alliance and was quite conservative by UCCan standards before he left for that church. E.g. he was the only family member to oppose gay ordination in 1988. OTOH, he leans more liberal politically, just not as a far to the left and me and my union lawyer cousin (who has been NDP supporter forever). Not sure if he is still as socially conservative as he was back then. We just don't discuss those issues these days.

My Xmas drinking was less adventurous. A 4 pack of assorted IPA between daughter and me and then we supped a bottle of D'Ont Poke the Bear, which the Big Guy got one glass of.

Good morning! It is Day 4, and if my calculations are accurate, it's Thursday. (Sometimes the days between Dec. 25 and Jan. 1 get a bit muddled.) For memories of gatherings, meals and drinking bouts, and for the memories yet to be made this year, let us be thankful. Meanwhile, the Coffee Cart is ready, with fresh brewed coffee and tea water boiling, to host your conversations, or just to offer a place to relax and breathe deeply for a bit. All is ready, come join in!

No Christmas drinking around here, at least of alcohol. We've been hosting Muslims so not much point in even having it around. Neither of us drinks much in any case.

Two weeks to vacation. I'll be on a cruise ship and have paid for their wifi (my first time using Starlink, which now seems to be the go-to provider for cruise lines) so might be around occasionally. Otherwise, @JayneWonders can deal with any crises that arise.

Good morning from rainy VI. I fully expect to see lakes outside after yesterday and last night. I'm not complaining though. It's nice after the severe drought we had over the summer. I spent the day reading yesterday. I finished a cozy mystery ebook then finished reading a great Canadian book called Daughters of the Deer by Danielle Daniel. I'm not sure what today will bring.

plus what KaytheCurler wrote

Fascinating

My family for most of my life (and my extended family on both sides) haven't been "don talk aboot certain schtuff"

So when I have hoid aboot that from some peeps it has been theoretical and "huh. ty for telling me that". another experience to add to the experience box

This Christmas I have had a weird experience with my bro. He seems reluctant aboot Christmas and the Christ aspect as well so I asked him is it because our mom died? He said new things to me (my bro used to be Mr. Christmas. Put the lights up. Decorate the tree. Clamber everywhere. Villages):
...Saying Merry Christmas can be bad because not everyone believes in Christmas
AND
Christian Churches have done so much horrific harm around the world

This is all new coming from him

And what KaytheCurler wrote on bringing up antigay etc peeps

I don't think you brought that up

The world is quite crazy atm lol

There are wonderful amazing good things going on (check oot Mendalla's thread) but also very borky things (like the switch in USA between usually Liberal and Conservative things, the spread of Corporate milquetoast culture to our culture, hatred of homeless by Liberals and Progressives as well and so forth, loss of a shared reality in USA and Canada now)

We don't choose what to believe
(we can intentionally expose ourselves to different views and "we" may change our belief)
Our political worldview I think is genetic
What we do as parents is to love for and care for our kids...

This is my first Christmas outside of the constant grief...I can intentionally engage with people...even polar bear swim twice with my bro...

There is this amazing woman here, D, who owns this winter and camping shop...she is a hoot...talks a lot...good sense of humour...offered us wine on Christmas eve (her tradition)...yesterday I visited to see if she survived her debauch...i touched her forehead and said she was running a temp of 10 Jesuses..the Christmas Spirit is alive!

Bless you all

To bits

Tolkien should have had a "Five rings..." line in the LOTR poem about the magic rings. He missed a ... golden opportunity.:ROFLMAO:

Good morning. Last working day of 2023. 2024 looms large. New year's resolutions anyone?

5 ringers allow for quintessential sounds in the head (a daed spot) of split Christians; those that celebrate the light versus those that celebrate the lights going out ... especially their neighbor's ... thus dae*da*lus!

We must pass thro' this spot we're in ... life appears to be a pain and the powers fight over who is to administer the essence ... the search for greater power goes on ... causing dispersion ... resembles random thoughts to be gathered on a continuum ... a loupe hole! It remains beyond me ...

Good morning! Happy Day 6! The tiramisu is wonderful. Thanks!
The Coffee Cart is ready for the day, hot beverages and all kinds of baked goodies. Come on in and join the conversations! All is ready.
