Back from a lovely and loving trip visiting family and friends. Loved meeting the newest grandchild, who seemed to stare at me wide-eyed for a very long time! Back home last night, and outside our front window, we witnessed a police car block the road, and then saw a man get tasered. Then I woke up to the sad news of an 'intimate partner murder suicide' in our fair city...with three children murdered. I don't know who they are, but I'll hear about it. Our city is small in terms of news so the identities will become known. But that doesn't matter...I love my city, but I don't love what is becoming of it. So, so, so sad.

And some say the power of corruption isn't driving us crazy! We believe it to be normal in business, governing and BS ... the latter dies fly ... ephemera? Lost fertility of thought ... pathological personalities?

We're under a rainfall warning. It's a great day to stay inside and work on knitting a shawl that's a mystery knit along (MKAL) while watching YouTube programs

I finished the rug hooking kit I learned at the Fibre Arts festival. I changed it a bit- it was originally square, but I only had a rectangular frame- and I added the sheep. The title of the kit was “ tiny landscape with roses”- I changed it to: “ what’s happening in the tiny landscape?”

Good morning! Meeting grandchildren for the first time, learning of the murder of 3 children, hooking rugs, rainfall warnings, all the other things that go on around us and in us. We bring it to the Coffee Cart for support, conversation, and hot beverages. All is ready, come join in!

Heading out for a 'cousins' lunch' today with my mom and husband. These are my mom's cousins...family of her dad's sisters and brothers. We started doing this on a regular basis before the pandemic but haven't done it since. Also, we haven't done it since my mom's dementia. Today, I told her about the lunch and explained who the cousins were. I hope she doesn't stress about it.

Just put some fresh, homemade doughnuts out to go with your morning drink.

Domestic violence and intimate partner murder suicide, has been on the rise everywhere....including my town. Many many challenges for people these days without enough resources...we really need more group resources and networks for people so they can also develop friendships and like minded support. One on one counselling just isn't available and just sends you home to deal with it alone until your next session.

I'm feeling torn these days. So many places that could use my presence, but, many miles apart.
I do so wish that I could be Samantha of Bewitched fame, and just wiggle my nose and be in another place.
(Of course, there would still be stresses, but how lovely to pop in for 20min for hugs and a catchup without technology).

Remember how samantha could also just wiggle her nose and things would be sparkly?

We'd probably become ever more slovenly as a population, but, dang, without thinking of consequences that wiggly nose seems like a nice thing to have.

How is your sister doing?

I loved the series Bewitched when I was growing up. But oh man, Samantha was a subservient wife. Even as a child I thought it was absurd that she welcomed the drudgery of housework rather than wriggling her nose! And why did Darren get to forbid the use of her powers???

All women know why, right?

Slowly, very slowly. Not easy recovery. Insurance complicates it tremendously in US due to their unwillingness to pay for care of the calibre that will do her best (ie rehab hospital). she is moving to nursing home if they can find a place that can provider her even adequate care that insurance will cover.
Lots of pain. Able to use arms and hands much more. It is hard to know how things are truly going due to the murkiness of the lens that people use and the limits that they put on sharing information. (basically, I can't see, so must rely on inputs from various sources. not all are on the same page)

Oh gosh, a nursing home when rehab is needed....makes the healing longer. Does she have a husband or friend that could help with even some form of range of motion? Must be frustrating for you to hear and watch from afar. Hugs

Think that Bewitched was actually a bit consciousness raising for women of our generation?

Samantha knew her own mind at least and wasn't afraid to go against her husband's wishes. I don't recall any negative consequences for her.

Lucy (I Love Lucy) got her own way through manipulation at times. There's a pretty good argument that her relationship with Ricky was actually abusive. She called him Sir non-ironically too.

Then there was June Cleaver doing her housework wearing her pearls.

It's good to look back at our past sometimes isn't it?
This would make a good thread, because there were some good role models too.
