Good morning everyone. High fives for the good news. Gentle hugs for Bette. We had rain yesterday and are waking up to rain this morning. It looks like we have a 60% chance of rain all day. If it kept up as is right now for a week that would help. I spent a great deal of the day reading yesterday. We started the day with blueberry buttermilk pancakes. Yum. I've brought a virtual plate of pancakes to share. There's plenty for everyone who wants them. The blueberries are from this farm where we are.

I have no idea what those things are but I'll bounce your suggestion off my friendly puter guy. He didn't say anything about such a thing when he fixed our machine. Lots of people and businesses had the same problem. Technically literate folk fixed their own! Then there are dinosaurs like us !!

Not many folks think Bout them

Very handy for rural areas subject to intermittent outages, surges or related power issues

It is basically a battery. You are pulling power from the battery. The battery is constantly being fed by your hydro. Any noise is handled in the UPS.

So, the $47 fancy power bar at bottom of page would be okay for your electronics? I only have the PC and router stuff to protect, and it's all on one power bar, but it's not a new one. And I'm in town with pretty reliable hydro.

A UPS is another step up from that. Basically even the power fails completely, the battery will keep things alive, avoiding risky system crashes. Even a good surge protected power bar will just condition the power to minimize the impact of momentary spikes and brownouts. It won't help with a blackout, even a short one.

That said, our old Cyberpower UPS packed it in just before I revamped our home network last month and I have not replaced it yet. Need to convince Mrs. M that it is actually necessary among other things and I have not really prioritized it.

Understood.

For rural, we can get multiple hard hits in under a minute. It's very hard on equipment.

It is relatively common to lose power in the winter for 15mun to 2 hr

In addition, if it is an extended outage, I don't lose internet as I plug it all into the UPS

Good morning, all! As we discuss ways to protect electronic gadgets from the problems with electricity, enjoy blueberry pancakes, and chat over anything else that comes up, we can gather round the Coffee Cart, for conversation, community, and hot beverages. All is ready, come on in.

Consider what is available for the human electronic crash in the neuro system and the trauma ... it too may be post dead ...

Yet to the powers the individual bits are disposable soe thye only listen to small bits of the greater communications ... I know powers that listen to no news whatsoever unless self indulgent ...

Is this limiting ....

Good morning. Heading off to do my thing with my mom. Planning to walk and hoping to dodge raindrops. Our garden in producing very well these days...lots of beans, berries, potatoes, lettuce, radishes, peppers, onions, carrots. No restaurant can compete with garden produce cooked at home these days.

I think I have another birds nest near my office. There's a couple birds of indeterminate (so far) species who keep flying around my window and landing on the eavestrough above it. One of the benefits of planting lots of trees when we landscaped, I guess.

won't protect fully for lightning strike
Not much really will. Even with a UPS, you could lose the UPS. Basically, you just hope it sacrifices itself to save the computer.

My story about computers and lightning:

Many years ago, when I was managing a minicomputer system (think of a computer the size of a washer and dryer) in my library days. We used dumb terminals (basically just a screen, keyboard, and basic electronics to communicate with the big computer in another room) with barcode readers attached and a serial cable back to the computer. During a severe thunderstorm, our public services department took a hit. The surge fried a terminal, the attached barcode reader, and went all the way down the serial cable to fry one of the port controllers in the computer in the other end of the building. The system had a huge power conditioner on it but that didn't protect against surges through an attached cable.

Thoughts do but the desire to carry on to suit the individual rather than society! Its mine they say ... a deep penetration ...

Is it just me, or is it fruit fly season? J_____ Murphy. I have several traps set up; why won't they go to those instead of the same thing without the drop of dish detergent? I swear I am getting additional protein by swallowing little bugs drowned in my wine glass.

Water main is getting fixed next week on a day it doesn’t rain, lets hope for the best. I have so many things on my to do list for that week of vacation that I am already feeling stressed. It’s been so hot and humid that gardening wasn’t an option. Envy to all retired people who can work their garden before the heat hits.
