Good morning , everyone, wehave sunshine in NS. You probably heard of the heavy rainfall causing major damage by washing out roads and setting streets under water. Thankfully, it wasn't as bad in my area, but but Halifax did get around 250 mm- they say it was the amount of three months rain in 24 hours. Four people who were stuck in flooded cars are missing, two of the kids who were in a car with two adults who got out. I can’t even imagine what story is behind this ( they are keeping the info secret), if this was the parents of the kids- how could they ever live on ?
What annoys me is that they are talking about an “ event of the century”- it might have been 50 years since a catastrophe like this has happened, it certainly will not be another 50 yrs until the next one.
We rea,ly need to start calling “climate change” what it really is- “ climate emergency”.

Good morning! We think of those out East who are dealing with rain and floods, especially of the four missing persons. We remember those who have passed on, and hope for good weather for those going camping. The Coffee Cart is ready, all are welcome to stop in for hot beverages and conversation.

Imagine ... you must do this profoundly ... for there are those that deeply believe that such things cannot happen in a stable world under greatest of power.

The power of denial is suggested to overcome the human power of mind as it appears to be beyond most mortal limits! There are even people that believe they can empower ancient monarchies ... when one "nobody" said there was no need for kings ... yet someone absentmindedly ignored this ... thus vast spaces out there that appear as bubbly universes ... so much froth ... around brewing points! How myths boil up in the public houses and temples of gathering indiscretions ... driven by emotional content until it departs ... misinformed process?

Even in the beginning a dark formless storm ... maybe even 10 years ago under a townhall light ... bluestones? Impossible they say ... as they try and escape the spot we're in ...

Good morning. It is supposed to be a rainy day here. Here's hoping. It won't do much to alleviate the level 5 (out of 5) drought we're in. It's hard to see that one side of the country is drowning while the other is dry and burning. Sending prayers for balance

I am reading an excellent book called The Winter Palace by Eva Stachniak. Today I will continue to learn about Catherine the Great.

Consider there are political characters that do not believe in instability ... thus things have to be solid in their avarice (that's control)! So they believe in vast manner beyond their wildest intelligence ... indelible abstracts? Vast deficiencies ... whole lies ...

Good news from my insurance. They are going to pay for the repair ( just under $6000) and wave the deductable if I pay fixing the indoor damage myself. Which will be the floor in the closet, maybe a bit drywall and the board around the floor. It’s a closet! It doesn’t need to match the rest of the living room. I am very happy with that and will look for a sale on hardwood or vinyl. Very pleased how the insurance is handling that. They are now swamped with more serious flooding problems , so they are happy to get my case off their desk. PEI vacation week in September doesn’t need to be canceled.

Saw a bit about the NS floods while on the road. Ugh. Just ugh. Vibes to the province that at one point almost became our home (Mrs. M taught at Dal for two years).

So I am back from Iceland, where 14C is considered balmy (really). And the sticker shock. Ouch. A restaurant main dish generally runs 3000-7000 krona. There's almost 100 krona (I think it is around 94 or 95 so that's rounding) in a dollar so do the math. And I'm not talking gourmet. I'm talking fish & chips or a good burger with local beef. On the upside, they are even more dedicated to plastic money than we are so at least we were not lugging around massive numbers of local bank notes.

Will probably do a thread in Social or something once I get the pics organized and select a few to share online.

Oh, about the volcano. We already had a pretty full agenda by the time it erupted so we did not take a tour to the site, though our tour company does offer one. We did see steam/smoke/fumes rising from the site and did get a view from a distance when we climbed the tower of Hallgrimskirkja, a huge Lutheran (most Icelanders are Lutheran and apparently the church is still quite strong there) church in Reykjavik.

I remember when flights to Europe were interrupted because of an eruption, I think it might have been for a week?
So good you made it back.

That was 2010's eruption of Eyjafjallajökull. We saw that volcano on the tour. And spent a day in the shadow of Katla, which is likely to be the next big one. Katla is now badly overdue for another blast. Last erupted in 1918 and was on a 30-60 year cycle up until then. Vik, one of the towns I stayed in, is basically toast if Katla blows due to flash flooding from the glacier on and around the volcano.

Sounds like a wonderful trip, Mendalla. Looking forward to pics. And, Mrs. A., I am delighted that you had a reasonable and fair response from your insurance company. So often, it is not the case.

I'm struggling a bit, again, because I've fallen, again, and bruised a couple of ribs (doesn't matter if they're fractured, the non-treatment is the same, but they don't feel fractured, but one of the two bruised seems to want to pop out at the end, which is painful and irritating; I have been to the after hours clinic, came home with puffers so I don't cough). Went to work this morning, against the big guy's advice, and was a bit grey by the time the shift ended. Can't pick up anything heavier than a small can with my right hand, so I'm twisting a lot, which makes it worse. s**t. And my Doctor of Chinese Medicine is in China at present, and my chiropractor is on a well deserved vacation, so painkillers it is. I'm a bit tired of this accident-proneness, and it's making me suspect that my vision has altered and my glasses are not keeping up. Also, accidents happen when I take off my glasses; because I'm legally blind in my left eye (although it can be corrected), I lose all depth perception the moment I take off my glasses.

And my allergies are so bad, that I'm on decongestants, and doubling up the antihistamines, and using puffers and an antihistamine steroid nasal spray, and all sorts of crap. (And it makes me deaf in one ear with a sensitive sinus, so affects my balance, as well.) It's been a very fertile summer, with the strong heat and lots of moisture, which means tons of pollen and mould and...zucchinis that grow from 4" to 12" overnight...

Yay on the first.

Not sure on the second, not having met you or your Mom, but sounds like you're happy with it so high five.

(TMI warning) Ugh on the third. That would be hell for me right now since my hernia means I can't strain too much on the can.

Good morning, all! Rain out west (at least it's a start), too much rain and wind out east, more bruises from falls, insurance company willing to actually insure, a negative on cancer, even with the inconveniences involved, trips to Iceland and volcanoes-viewing, and all the other stuff that comes up in life, we bring to round the Coffee Cart, for conversation and support, for hot beverages and goodies. Come on by and join in.

And everything goes down the gravity hole ... did anyone read about that in the Initial Ocean (aboriginal/Indian) ...

Are holes necessary to get through anything and everything ... thus we are contained in one ... as we go down! Some say this is a drain, swamp, or sewer ...

Imagine coming up on the other side ... a mental enigma? Psyche waves ... in the meantime we know little! Some believe this to be just grand ... leading to hoarding ...

I'm playing catch up this morning and decided not to respond to all the news. My puter died on Friday due to repeated power failures in rapid succession and had to attend the puter hospital where it languished with many others. Good news for the puter medic I guess!
