This is something hospital staff is getting on a regular basis. Coming from Europe, I really wasn’t used to this kind of bad quality chocolate ( same with Quality street).Yes - Pot of Gold is one I also remember!

No cell? International rates can be hellish but there are ways to deal with that (e.g. Skype offers landline calling from their app). We still have a VOIP line (voice over Internet) with our old landline number on it but I barely use it. I mostly give out my cell now since people can reach me on it any time whether I am home or at the office.I am off to a friend’s house, they still have a landline. Going to call an older friend in Germany who doesn’t have internet. I wish there was a way we could skype or so. But when my mother died, I gave up my landline, because I am skyping and now emailing with my family- and I forgot when I canceled my landline that I was calling this old former colleague of mine twice a year.
Yeah, I mostly avoid the candy stuff nowadays but when I wasn't watching my sugars, I was okay with things like Pot of Gold and Black Magic but I did occasionally get some Swiss chocolate courtesy of my uncle (a Swiss immigrant) and, yeah, excellent stuff. Same with Belgian, which I had when we were there several years ago (pre-diabetes, I think, so I wasn't being too careful then).Nothing beats European chocolate.
well, they were supposed to be the four lit candles for Advent. But now that you mention it, I do have some Pumpkin Spice leftover, that I'm trying to use up. The season is gone, but the beans aren't.I see, you got the pumpkin spice out.
Oh, I thought Haloween came from the UK?Mrs A your experience is a good match for mine when it comes to chocolate. I had a hard time with the taste of the North American types. I think the UK market is probably flooded with it now though - lots of 'Americanising' happens there.. Heck they even have Halloween now, and Proms at schools.
Thanks Kay! Sorry to hear it didn't help your vision.I haven't heard about applying membrane to eyes. Will follow along and try to learn something new. I had cataracts removed and it didn't seem to be a big deal. It didn't make much appreciable difference to my vision unfortunately. I have a genetic eye disease that is slowly becoming more problematic for which there is no fix..
Purdy's i pretty good. We used to get the Bernard Callebaut yule log, a chocolate log filled with the small chocolates. Tha was really good chocolate, located in Calgary won international competitions. But the little chocolates I wished some had the fruit fillings. There was a raspberry but was flavoured chocolate. Bad financial decisions led to him having to sell and then their were lawsuits because he took some of the things with his name. He started a new company but it didn't last long, probably partially due to the lawsuits. This is something hospital staff is getting on a regular basis. Also have not heard about membranes. I am coming up on a year since having my cataracts out. Vision is excellent for distance and even midrange, but I am finding myself relying more and more on my reading glasses for closeup. I am also finding a lot of issues with dry eyes, which the FDA recently reported is a major side longterm side effect of Lasik laser surgery (I had laser surgery instead of conventional cataract surgery). Still, after wearing glasses since I was 8 and then nearly going blind on the left side due to the cataracts, I'll take it.I haven't heard about applying membrane to eyes. It did. It was considered a scary, spooky time. When it fell on the same night as Brownies the Brownie meeting was cancelled! There wasn't pumpkin pie or anything like that. Sometimes though there were Black Masses held in quiet churchyardsOh, I thought Haloween came from the UK?
Sometimes when I got parcels from Germany, I would give some to my best friend. She would tell her kids they can’t have any, because it had alcohol in it ( it didn’t, but she thought kids wouldn’t appreciate the difference between good and bad chocolate). Only worked as long as the kids were little.that's based on childhood memory so good chance it wasn't great chocolate.
That's the best reason for keeping these gatherings in the budget. It's value is in the esprit de corps and networking....Got a couple people in that I haven't seen in a while, too (from our other administrative office in the GTA). A good time was had by all, I would say...
