I am off to a friend’s house, they still have a landline. Going to call an older friend in Germany who doesn’t have internet. I wish there was a way we could skype or so. But when my mother died, I gave up my landline, because I am skyping and now emailing with my family- and I forgot when I canceled my landline that I was calling this old former colleague of mine twice a year.

Mrs A your experience is a good match for mine when it comes to chocolate. I had a hard time with the taste of the North American types. I think the UK market is probably flooded with it now though - lots of 'Americanising' happens there.. Heck they even have Halloween now, and Proms at schools.

No cell? International rates can be hellish but there are ways to deal with that (e.g. Skype offers landline calling from their app). We still have a VOIP line (voice over Internet) with our old landline number on it but I barely use it. I mostly give out my cell now since people can reach me on it any time whether I am home or at the office.

Nothing beats European chocolate.
Yeah, I mostly avoid the candy stuff nowadays but when I wasn't watching my sugars, I was okay with things like Pot of Gold and Black Magic but I did occasionally get some Swiss chocolate courtesy of my uncle (a Swiss immigrant) and, yeah, excellent stuff. Same with Belgian, which I had when we were there several years ago (pre-diabetes, I think, so I wasn't being too careful then).

Oh, I thought Haloween came from the UK?

I haven't heard about applying membrane to eyes. Will follow along and try to learn something new. I had cataracts removed and it didn't seem to be a big deal. It didn't make much appreciable difference to my vision unfortunately. I have a genetic eye disease that is slowly becoming more problematic for which there is no fix..
Thanks Kay! Sorry to hear it didn't help your vision.

This is something hospital staff is getting on a regular basis. Coming from Europe, I really wasn’t used to this kind of bad quality chocolate ( same with Quality street).
Purdy's i pretty good. We used to get the Bernard Callebaut yule log, a chocolate log filled with the small chocolates. Tha was really good chocolate, located in Calgary won international competitions. But the little chocolates I wished some had the fruit fillings. There was a raspberry but was flavoured chocolate. Bad financial decisions led to him having to sell and then their were lawsuits because he took some of the things with his name. He started a new company but it didn't last long, probably partially due to the lawsuits.

Pot of Gold I think used to be better not just the selection but the chocolate too, but that's based on childhood memory so good chance it wasn't great chocolate.

Also have not heard about membranes. I am coming up on a year since having my cataracts out. Vision is excellent for distance and even midrange, but I am finding myself relying more and more on my reading glasses for closeup. I am also finding a lot of issues with dry eyes, which the FDA recently reported is a major side longterm side effect of Lasik laser surgery (I had laser surgery instead of conventional cataract surgery). Still, after wearing glasses since I was 8 and then nearly going blind on the left side due to the cataracts, I'll take it.

It did. It was considered a scary, spooky time. When it fell on the same night as Brownies the Brownie meeting was cancelled! There wasn't pumpkin pie or anything like that. Sometimes though there were Black Masses held in quiet churchyards

Sometimes when I got parcels from Germany, I would give some to my best friend. She would tell her kids they can’t have any, because it had alcohol in it ( it didn’t, but she thought kids wouldn’t appreciate the difference between good and bad chocolate). Only worked as long as the kids were little.

Good Monday morning! As our trek toward Christmas enters into its last week, and as the Solstice comes and passes, and days get longer, may the Light shine brightly. For card game sites, discussions of good and not-so-good chocolates, eye procedures, and many other topics and discussions, the Coffee Cart is ready. Come on in! Join the conversation!

I heard theis morning about another multiple abortion in Ontario as group kill urge.

Is this because of the brain drain south of the border ... and now mindlessness creeps north?

Some folk do not believe in nothing and the reiman Conjecture as if it was a mental construct ... and to many this is psychotic and they believe not in psyche ... thus they shall be consumed in what they call a blackout ... permanent psychosi?

How about aphesis ... said in another language to represent nature ... we cannot observe this from where we are at is overwhelming and into destroying nature ... thus subnatural processes called hypo ... counter to the hyped and all into sensationalism ... then they come down ...

It may be a mental issure and not a legitimate urge ... so calloed conjureded up? Eris sis! It is just word ... some say a God that torments folk that tend to wowards such leanings, sway and alternate chaos ... and some sage said that within chaos is an obscure reason!

It come to you ... anon? Perhaps anull an a non urge ... like a rest in the ire on heh ... some called a Chrismas Holiday made just for the light to shine through the dark and stormy knights ... of column bean as it is ... upright as ET! That column was seen going through the arid lands by day khabiru and old word for dry icons ... on the great unknown ... all that is out there beyond the collective ... may be sociopathic! Mostly because of being driven out ...

If you know things the moral pool does not you're out of their league because of Phoebe and urges about strange items ... explains admonitions ... M'N eek experience on Oak St. That' Sur ...

Like a sage ... difficult to elaborate up on th' Eire ... floaters? Boid ...

Tell me about suicidal expansion again in the larger sol ... a soliloquay? That alone voice ...

Today will be an excellent day for knitting and sewing. We're under a snowfall warning and island drivers don't do well under these conditions. Sooooo I'm happy to do my part and stay off the roads.

A Christmas memory: My mother-in-law made a really spectacular Yule Log every year. When we lived in Fort Frances (about a 20 hour drive away from her), she would mail us her Yule Log every year! It came squashed, and less-than-fresh, but somehow still tasted pretty good. She had nine kids and I wonder if she did that for each of them, or just the ones who couldn't make it home for Christmas. She was a special lady.

Nice Christmas lunch at the office today. The usual stuff (turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cooked veggies and a salad). Got a couple people in that I haven't seen in a while, too (from our other administrative office in the GTA). A good time was had by all, I would say.

That's the best reason for keeping these gatherings in the budget. It's value is in the esprit de corps and networking.
Unfortunately, so many high-stress workplaces cut this expense first when looking for $.
