My woes are little in comparison, chansen. Hope you find moments of peace and thoughtfulness to help you through this tough time.

Sounds like the flu bug, Pinga. Hope you feel better soon.

More about the janitor...He's a strange duck in some ways (aren't we all), but he likes to outwit, outsmart and get even with people. For some reason, I became his new target and he started doing some bizarre things. At one point he bullied one of my students (he shows a lot of anger sometimes), but I put a quick stop to that. Maybe that's why he's out to get me! Anyway, he only growled at me for a couple of days after the bathroom lock incident, and wouldn't speak even when I tried to speak to him (to thank him for the new lock on the bathroom door). Plus he started 'cleaning' my room while the kids were still eating lunch, instead of waiting 5 minutes like previously arranged). I contacted my union to say that I didn't think I should have to look over my shoulder to see what he was going to do next to me. I think that fear got to the principal, and the janitor changed his ways a bit. I've usually had a decent relationship with him, but he's the kind who would take offense to anyone trying to correct him.

On a good note, my class was angelic today...learning, laughing, working, caring...just the way I like it!

Chanson, my thoughts are with you and your family. I have learned over the years that each of us handle grief in our own way. Take care and may you be kind to each other on the extra rough days.

Speaking of things, one year ago this morning, our lives changed again.

Thanks all for listening on that journey.

A year already. Doesn't seem that long. Peace be with you and your family, chansen. He was quite a kid from what you've said. Take joy in the good memories even as you work throught the grief..

If you've seen my Facebook, you know we handled it yesterday by creating a wooden cutout, put Carter's clothes on it, mounted it on a pair of my old race skis (waxed to perfection) and entered it in a "dummy downhill", where we won our first heat:

Another dummy crashed into us in the semifinals, or "Carter's Catastrophe" would have had a shot at the win.

Chansen, although grief is grief, Mendalla 's loss, or the loss of any of our parents is in the order in which they should appear. We remember the good and the bad, but, we had our time together. The loss of a child, or the loss of dreams of a child are different, and well, we hold you closer and gentler in the days that you need us to. Take care.

@ pinga - Hmmm ... cocktails & euchre! Well, it's been so cold lately, I'd go for a beach theme! Something colourful & tropical with little umbrellas! So hokey I know ... but could be fun. Mohitos are from Cuba & not too hard to make. Or Pina Colada, Margeruitas, etc. Play some Beach Boys music, turn up the heat. Or, embrace the winter & go for an icy vodka martini in frosty chilled glasses. Something chocolatey is always decadent in winter too ... or anytime for that matter!

I'm hosting next month - so it might be Green for St. Patrick's day ... not sure yet!

Feeling a bit off still. Worked a 1/2 day, then found the headache coming back. Home with my feet up, the TV on, the farm eating roast beef dinner (I chose an orange..not quite up to full dinner), and the snow is coming down.

Surprised Dad by paying for lunch for all his bowling buddies today and taking a birthday cake in. He was quite surprised.

That was super nice of you @Pinga ! I think I've forgotten - is this a milestone birthday (80?)

I'm sorry you're under the weather. I have some sort of a bug. I think it's influenza. My muscles are so sore - I feel like I canoed in choppy water for days and then ran a marathon in rubber boots. My eyes hurt as does my neck. My skin is sore and itchy. I am so fatigued that I can't rest. I have sinus pain (but without sinus symptoms like a full head which I don't really understand). Yuck. I didn't volunteer today (I shouldn't give this to seniors) and have cancelled my appointment and a visit with a friend for Thursday.

@chansen the race sounds like such a great tribute to your son. I wish I could see the video!

He turned 90 @Justme

I'm glad you are taking it easy and not being with seniors.

I am not sure that I mentioned that I started a group called "Phone _________ during February", and invited family & friends of my Dad to it. Figured that I could get a bunch of folks to phone him throughout the month, rather than just one day, to help the month of February go by. So far it is working. A high school friend phoned him.... and he told me about it. My niece phoned him, and he told me about it. He had others call as well that were normal to call. My nephew is planning on calling him, and so on.

Oh wow - that's awesome.

What a great idea to get people to call him all month long! And how awesome it would be for him to get all those calls. I tried to get people to email updates of their lives for me to read to my Great Uncle (there are many, many of us) and few people answered which made me a bit sad.

Oh gosh - that does sound like the flu Justme - to bed with you and good idea to stay home to keep others from catching it! I'll be glad when flu season is over ... spring won't come soon enough this year.
