We are being spared the whole yard clean up stuff still. The yard is still liberally covered with snow. I am baking more than usual and all our bread, buns, sweet buns and muffins are home made nowadays. This is happening because I am staying home and it is way too cold and icy for any walks down country roads. .

We have crocuses in flower now and other bulbs pushing up their greenery.

My neighbor's pink hyacinths are almost in bloom. They are pretty much the first every year because they are in a sunny spot right against her house.

Flurries here. Plan for today- house cleaning, sewing, reading.
Considering that I have been self isolating for almost four weeks, my house should be sooo clean....oh, well, its only me here.

Good morning. It's chilly and wet here this morning. We had a hail storm and the hail that landed on the ground is only just melting now.

Hail the wee balls and dances ... in Gone With the Wind ... these places stirred up the rebellious confederates. Still today men go to war over de Bells! Always someone performing something questionable ...

I recall some of my peers slipping under the tent to see what the older adolescents were doing in the dark ... same old stuff ... gives birth to empty headed daemons! The life goes on ...

Claudius: Hail Caesar!

Caesar: Well, I think it's just heavy snow

Claudius: o_O

Sounds like some limited folk with aversion to large vocabularies and communications. The opposition to it makes me challenge them.

I've been challenged by some of the determinants all my life ... only to find in the big picture they err'd! Mistakes in Eire are something to learn from ... in the real world the determinants get hostile! God bless the indeterminate and uncertain so they can learn of exodus pathways to go and draught up some knowledge ... many feel knowledge and learning of aliens is evil work ...

*sigh* I took a microwave cover off of the working microwave on the counter, placed my food in the non-working microwave, stuck the cover on top, tried to start it. One would think having a microwave sitting on the counter would be enough of a reminder ...

That sounds good. What I've been finding in the last few weeks of grocery checking, is the almost-universality of some Canadian comfort foods. Cheese slices, canned Campbell's soup, KD and/or perogies in I'd say 75% of orders.
Is that comfort foods or more so convenient foods? I could never understand Canadian taste for KD. None of it tastes like real food. But- apparently yeast is in high demand and people are getting their bread makers out that they got three Christmases ago and never used....

Ok, here the original and my changes in brackets:

Hungarian Krautpie
Dough:
The recipe asks for 15 g of fresh yeast ( something I have never found here in Canada- fresh yeast),
175g lukewarm sourmilk ( I just used regular milk), 2 1/2 tbs sunflower oil, 1/2 tsp salt ( I omitted, because Sauerkraut is already salty), 175g wheat, 75 g rye (in this cookbook they grind the flour just before using it, I just used 200 g of wheat to make a basic dough with the yeast), 1/2 tsp cumin, 50 g shredded cheese
,ix all together, let rise ( I usually either put the container into hot water for rising or set it on a heat bag and cover it up.
For the filling:
450 g Sauerkraut, 125g onions ( which is two small or one larger), 200 g apples, shredded ( two small ), one green and one red pepper ( I only had red ones), 6 TBS sunflower oil, 1 tsp cumin, 2 tsp sweet paprika, 1/2 tsp rosen
aprika ( I used red paprika and smoked paprika) salt, optional 1-3 tbs dry white wine ( I didn’t have any, but I can see that that would be a nice flavour)
topping:
125 Esrom cheese ( I used raclette cheese- similar strong tasting to esrom.
