Wonderful Pinga! Our school board is closing all of the schools in the so called high-needs areas. Our school is literally physically falling apart. It hasn't been kept up over the years, partly because the parents have not been the kind who make sure things get done (no parent group even; not enough interest!) Also, administration has been too involved with behaviour and mental health issues over the years to spend energy getting the building fixed. It makes me sad, especially as our school is named after a local war hero, and the name will now just disappear into the history books.
Carolla -- I don't know where I'll be next year...I'll be offered a job somewhere, and I'm hoping it's not with Grade 8! I don't think that is my calling at all!

Our school has high ceilings, hard wood floors, and built extremely solidly many years ago.
The addition was put on the parking lot at the back, so....the greenspace at the front has been removed to make parking. (We had actually paid for one of the trees planted there as a donation, and put money into the bench, etc, as a tribute to a retiring amazing teacher -- will need to reach out to them once construction is done to see if similair fundraising planned for replacement)

I don't see either son moving out soon. Plan is to move the bedroom furniture to the living room (it will work, for the week or two). I'm ok with it taking longer...i'm thinking work will start earlier, ie the week before in the purging, moving, so that we can rip stuff out early. Nothing is major in the work, the closet was an add on along one wall and we will keep it that way. It dawned on me though, it may be worthwhile spec'ing the closet organizer stuff, and i think i can do all that in advance, ie get the items and then install it after new floor laid down

No word about my aunt today. I haven't spoken to my mom, but I was on the phone with an uncle and he didn't mention anything. I think, unless I hear anything different from my mom, that I will wait to go visit. I don't particularly do well in those types of situations.

I was shocked today to find out my supervisor (and her husband) are moving to Qatar in Aug. I hear through the unofficial channels and then the announcement was posted. I absolutely LOVE working with her. There is some trepidation about who will replace her but also some feeling it will be ok. I also have a good relationship with the next person up in seniority-the assistant superintendent.

Chemguy and I had a nice celebration today. He commented I looked good when he came home, made me laugh as I was chilly so I decided to wear a cozy pair of flannel PJs. At least they are kinda Christmassy. I guess I looked happy and healthier compared to most of the time lately. We hung out by the fireplace for a while, and then played a new Christmas CD while opening gifts (Thanks Pinga!). I fell asleep early, but it was a nice comfy cozy sleep, not an I'm totally exhausted feeling.
Woke up with that stupid ear pain again. We had decided I would do a regular treatment today, since I had my regular dose yesterday, but it was to treat a sore throat. Chemguy wanted to get to bed, so I drank a glass of juice followed by gatorade quickly despite feeling sick from the ear pain while he mixed stuff up. This was the sickest I have ever been when doing an infusion. I think it's safe to say that gatorade did nothing to hydrate me. Chemguy had a split second scare as the drink is red, pretty much the same colour as the blood in the tubing. I managed to do a good job of keeping my hand still. Helped that it was just the liquid on the top of my stomach, and not deep heaves. Now I'm going to wait a bit before taking my pills before bed. I feel better, not nauseous, but just a weird feeling like I won't be able to keep anything down if I do take them now.

What an interesting destination for them, @Tabitha I wonder what called them there.
I also hope for a good transition for you. Been there, and well, it has been a rough series of managers.
I am saddened by the shooting in Paris, and the ongoing shooting. Just heard that the paper will publish next week on schedule with work from writers/artists from around the world. #jesuischarlie

Greetings everyone!
Today was a "stay in" day for me. And thank goodness for that - it was a cold one . . . the temperature wasn't that awful, but the wind was. When I had my early morning hot water I watch the wind blow down the street and was thankful I didn't have to go out.
I spent my stay in day taking down the rest of Christmas. I took my tree down on Monday and today I took down the house decorations. They are not all boxed up yet, but sitting in my spare bedroom as I spent the remainder of that day cleaning and putting back the items of my regular life. When I pack up I am going to try and pare things down a bit. I'm tired

I am getting tired of everlasting wind- especially when it is also cold!
My day has revolved around putting Christmas stuff away too. It wasn't as daunting a task as it used to be. Last year when we brought the boxes up from the basement we looked and DECIDED that enough was enough. We set the tree up, decorated it with our favourite baubles and set the rest aside. Then we set out our favourite items that hang on walls or sit on shelves and set the rest aside. We offered the set aside items to our kids over the holiday. One declined (but that one never acknowledges a birthday or special event in anyway so that wasn't a surprise). This year it was quite amusing to see 'our' ornaments in our kids' homes and much easier to get the house dressed up! .

It was warmer here today but right now we have snow squalls. I can't see across the street right now because of the wind and snow. We're waiting for a contractor who is about an hour late which has me worried for her safety. And I have a hungry husband so we have ordered pizza so she is bound to arrive at the same time!
The one good thing about Wednesday's frigid temperatures (aside from no mosquitoes) is that today's -12 didn't feel that cold
The cabinet maker was in to put the finishing touches to our kitchen and he tried to pull a fast one and that made me very mad, but I've calmed down. I'm really very good at forgiving mistakes but I have a really hard time when I think someone is trying to take advantage of me!
The best news of all though is that my Uncle is feeling much, much better and I am so relieved. And, he is getting fit for a new wheelchair tomorrow morning. Giving thanks!

Justme....I am dying to have my kitchen redone. It is very well used, old fashioned, and basically not working as it should. But it is so expensive and I retire in a year and a half, and I'll have only about half a pension to live on. So....I'm trying to figure out how to do some of it myself. My husband is a sort of a handy man, but he doesn't value the kitchen the way I do. He works on other projects. Sorry to hear about your cabinet maker...My son might be mine when I get around to it, and I'm pretty sure he'll be wonderful!

Kitchens and bathrooms can be so expensive to redo . . . both of mine need some work . . . perhaps a little bit each year.
It is a sunny, brisk morning here. I have had breaky, but am still in my jammies. Need to get into gear and get down and put the last few Christmas items in boxes so hubby can pack them up under the stairs for me.
So many things to think about - eye appointment tomorrow (another 8-10 hour just driving depending on the weather), Nominating Committee work, other church projects, catch-up phone calls to make with family and friends, cards to make and post, orders to make.
How is everyone this weekend?

Renos - big job! We partially redid our kitchen a few years ago. We left the cabinets configured as they were (had been 'built-in-place' by my Dad more than 30 years ago) but we removed all doors & drawer fronts - my husband built new ones in a shaker style (big update from the prior knotty pine!). We sent them out to have them professionally spray painted, & painted all the framing with matching paint. Upgraded the lighting. Reframed the window. Had done the floor a few years prior. Big change & we like it! Here are a couple of photos of work in progress

Last night we went downtown to friend's for dinner & then to "Jazz Night at the Aquarium". What fun that was! We had not yet visited Ripley's Aquarium which opened in Toronto last summer I think. So on Jazz Night - there's a live jazz group playing & music is piped throughout the facility. There are also two bars set up, so you can purchase beer or wine, stroll through all the exhibits enjoying a drink and the music No hoards of kids on class trips, but it was actually surprisingly busy with '20-30 somethings' on date nights! It was terrific to see so many 'younger people' enjoying the Aquarium. It's an extraordinary place & I highly recommend a visit! It's open quite late on many nights ... which surprised me when I looked at the calendar. So I imagine other weekends would be great to visit as well.
