The family Christmas' of my youth always had games being played before and after dinner. In my teens there were usually enough for two tables going.

On another note, I woke up at 5am today and decided to rollover and go back to sleep. When I next opened my eyes, it is 1pm! Yes, I needed it. Had had a restless night the night before and had a bit of a scratchy throat. Now to adjust plans for the day, after catching up with other items in the world.

Watch that scratchy throat. I don't know about your workplace, but we have a cold running loose in my office.

Lit a candle for Dad in church this morning (first time I've been in church since leading the Ingathering in September, partly because I was often in Kitchener on weekends dealing with Dad). Kept my remarks brief because I was already close to tears. The pianist had a soprano friend singing the prelude and postlude which brought back the thoughts that fuelled my reflection at the memorial. I even teared up when greeting and thanking the singer.
 
I'm annoyed with my internet provider - it's super slow and the problem is demand is too high in their area. It's taking minutes quite often to get a site loaded. If I'm not around much, it's probably just this and not an ER trip :) Apparently this has been an issue since Oct, but this is the first time where it has stayed this slow after doing all the usuals like disconnecting and reconnecting my computer and resting the router.
 
I'd be looking at alternatives by now. My old Bell ADSL connection was the pits and when they finally conceded that that was as good as they could do with that technology, I dumped them for a local cable provider called Teksavvy. Now that Bell has Fibe coming into my area, I might go back, esp. after seeing the speeds and prices they are offering my company for Business Fibe.
 
I'm currently paying $30/month and am bundled with phone and cable so I prefer to stay, but if it's constantly this bad I will leave. I restarted my computer after connecting with them, and it seems to be much better. My guess is they did a small tweak on their end, as I had tried restarting before contacting them and it didn't help.
The speed test is still slow, but as long as I can browse at a reasonable speed and watch netflix I'm ok with the current plan, plus a small discount due to the slow speed.
 
Good morning all. Happy Monday. There is tea with the ever perfect temperature & taste of our virtual room, There is the coffeepot ready as well for us coffee drinkers. It was great for me.

I set out some fruit as well, and some nice egg muffins. Enjoy them with some salsa, or grab one to go.

I'm up and away early this morning. Caught up on scrabble games while waching cbc.

Thanks, Pinga! I tend to like my tea weaker and cooler than most, so I appreciate a virtual cup that is neither strong nor scalding.

I had a great weekend of Christmas preparation. The annual Tea and Bazaar at church, the Christmas sale at the art gallery, distributing invitations and planning the menu for my Tree Trimming party, and some shopping for gifts. All I need is for the calendar to match my mood!

Home! Had a good trip to appointment . . . a bit of snow, and a bit of ice in places, but overall great - 8 hour drive - 4 there, 4 home. I posted in the thread in Health and Aging about the appointment itself and my continued eye saga.

Continuing to think of you, Mendalla as you grieve your loss of your dad.

I feel like I am seeing things differently than my friends, and I am not sure if it is because I have worked, shucks, almost lived in the gun violence of the US and that has influenced me. Or....is it because that I trust in the law (and maybe I shouldn't), or ..because I am a liberal...and though I am aware of racism and the terrible consequences of them.

The closest I get is when I am in the US customs and am aware even opening my mouth to speak to injustice could result in consequences on my record that would never come off and I would pay for each ime I crossed the border.

I can't imagine living that way in regards to police all my life. Yet, I am aware that is how young men of brown skin feel.

ugh. How does society get out of this mess.
 
I wonder about a country where (in some states) grown men can walk around city streets, parks, playgrounds, family restaurants and other public places proudly displaying semi-automatic weapons and the police can do nothing because of the open-carry law yet a twelve-year old boy playing with a toy gun in a play ground is shot and killed by the police.
 
Seeler, a 12year brandishing a weapon was shot & killed by police. The gang most violent in Milwaukee is primarily 14 & 15 year olds (or young teens) per the person I know who worked in a small store frequented by them and eventually resulting in in a shooting of a gang member.
 
I know that there are extenuating circumstances in almost every situation. Youth gang violence is a problem. (Here in this quiet little place (in some ways more a town than a city) a man was attack while walking home from a concert one evening in September and was beaten so badly he is still in hospital and will probably never fully recover - his attackers have not been identified but it is suspect that the attack was some type of initiation into the gang.) It's too bad that the officers couldn't have found some other way to disarm this 12 yr old - talk, tazer, wounding - did they really have to kill him?
What I find ironic is that an adult could walk through a playground heavily armed and not even be confronted. This is what I don't want to see happening in Canada.

Sorry - from what I saw on CBS news, I thought he was playing in a park with his toy gun on a picnic table and when the police approached he picked it up (grabbed it). Even if they were attempting a robbery I think it a shame that a 12 year old was killed. (My grandson is 10 1/2 and he is still very much a child and no doubt will be at 12 or 13.)
 
Seeler, he was in the park with a toy gun that appeared real. My link was in reference to the experience of a good friend of mine in Milwaukee. Note: this conversation is probably better for another thread. I may create one later if no one else does.
