Well - not on the topic of sick time - I'm having a wonderful four day weekend - including a couple of scheduled days off :) It is my mate's 70th birthday, so our dtr flew home to surprise him! And he was surprised!! Son & his gf are also here for the whole weekend. Two years since they have all seen each other, and we're having some great fun!
Enjoy this family time @Carolla .

Pinga, you have worked in the private sector. Those of us who worked in the public sector have been "categorized" as unworthy, wasting of resources, inefficient type people. As a person who is none of those things, we got our back up sometimes.

This stuff really should be in it's own thread.
I would be happy if someone asked for all the conversations regarding sick days be moved to a nw thread.
As an Admin, i woul prefer not to request it.

I can do that.

Back to room for all- we had another storm yesterday dumping 25 cm of wet snow. I had stayed at a friends house Wednesday night to take her to an appointment on the day of the storm ( she’s been waiting almost two years for a knee replacement) and we had to drive back in the middle of the storm. By the time we got to her place, it was not a good idea to leave again. Good I had brought some stuff along to get set up in her spare room for when I am staying with her after her operation in two weeks. I hate to leave my cat alone, but her relationship with her back- up friend who was supposed to stay with her suddenly turned sour.
I am not really looking forward to this week of being her overnight back up, she has this history of having friendships that turn bad and then she is gossiping about that ex friend more than what I like to listen to- and I am just hoping I am not going to be the next ex- relationship...
Anyway, I made it home when the roads were cleared , got my snowblower out and cleared mine and four other neighbours driveways. I have been a bit scared to use it until now, but this gave me enough experience to become confident in using it.

Well done Mrs Anteater. Our society would grind to a halt if family, friends and neighbours didn't step into tricky situations to assist and offer care.

On a lighter note - the challah is cooling and waiting for everyone I think it tastes best when hot from the oven. There is butter, liver pate, home made lemon curd and jams plus an assortment of cheeses. Dig in and take your pick!

Sounds delicious! Is the challah vegan?

Challah has eggs. That is why its English name is egg bread. It's one bread I've had less luck with than others. I love it, though. My Mom would sometimes buy it for us as an Easter-season treat.

Traditional challah does contain eggs, yes. However, vegan chalĺah can be made.

I'm sure it can. I'm equally sure that Kay is not vegan...what I've discovered, watching friends and family dedicate their life to one diet or another, is that many things can be "counterfeited" but often, at a cost, in terms of taste and texture. A "brioche-type" enriched bread, like challah, tastes rich because it's enriched; eggs are a lovely protein, and "richness-developer". I make the most beautiful pastry; people remark on it, enjoy it; my butter tarts are hugely bid up at auctions because of it. It is made with lard, and nothing else is quite as magical...

I'll swap richness for cruelty-free any day. ;)

Nothing like roast potatoes done with lard!

We tended to bacon fat added to the pan drippings from the roast, lol (more flavour than pure lard, which went into pastry and "chips"). Saturated fat is what it is... The only fat that even remotely duplicates it is avocado oil, which is insanely expensive.

Gotta watch your vegan manners, Jae.

When my daughter tried vegetarianism on for size (she was just a kid then) we had a book that talked about vegetarian manners.
