1/2 day of students today. Yay! It's great to have them back but will take a week or so for things to be back to normal!

Just checking in.

I havent' been on, just got caught up on a few threads.

I am definitely feeling out of control at present due to thing being way out of line on multiple fronts. No pens thrown lately, but, got called up on carpet for backlog in an area. I came as close to spitting nails as I have in a long time, but stayed on message. Tough times. My body is showing it as I am not caring for self.

On the plus side, I rented a carpet cleaner on the weekend and did my carpets on the weekend. It felt good and the boys helped. (hubby was away). Room feels fresher. I also went and got a quote for new kitchen cupboards. Not sure if will follow through, but it feels good to consider it.

I am aware that it will soon be Thanksgiving weekend....time flies.

Checking in regularly but very busy and not contributing much.
Yesterday, for instance,
Granddaughter phoned. She's sick. She has math first period, can she come to our house for the rest of the day. Of course, so from 9:30 on we have company - mainly sleeping, but I did make clam chowder for lunch at her request. Then down to my 'technical advisor's place' to spend a couple of hours on formatting book. Decision, it will save time and money to have the books sent to a post office address on the other side of the Canada/US border, but we will have to have passports to pick them up. So off to have pictures taken. Grab a bite of supper while out. Home to discover the high winds resulted in a power outage. Sit and watch the darkness settle--rig up a battery powdered radio and light and start to listen to election results (oh yes, we voted). Power on, sit up until 11:30, then go to bed with the results not finalized.
ps - I got my vote!!!!

Hi Pinga, I was just thinking about you when I signed on to Wondercafe2 this morning.

Yes, times flies! Where did the summer go? We are retired and have all the "time" in the world, but it still goes by so quickly - not enough hours in the day to do the things we want to do and still have to do. So, I can imagine for people who are fitting 8+ hour day jobs into the mix must really be busy.

Isn't it nice to have clean carpets and get things freshened up!! We freshened up my daughter's apartment this passed week with washing of walls and pulling everything out and cleaning behind everything. Hubby and I did her windows a few weeks ago. It smelled so nice in there. Now I need to do my house LOL!

The weather here is so beautiful we are back at the cabin as we have a few free days. It got to 29 yesterday - that is amazing here for September. It is supposed to be mid 20's for rest of week, but next week goes down to very low teens and even single digit numbers. So as the farmers say, we are making hay when the sun shines and enjoying the cabin and doing put-away chores.

Hope granddaughter feels better soon, seeler - she is lucky to have you grandparents there, and being so helpful. You are creating such wonderful memories in her (and grandson) life.

How far of a drive across the border, seeler (my geography not so good LOL - but you are probably fairly close)?

Hubby and I watched a tiny bit of the election news in NB . . .

Some people here hope across the border regularly. It's probably about 2 hrs to Holton, Maine. I could probably be there, pick up a parcel and be back home in one afternoon--unless I run into delays at the border. I don't travel regularly, explaining why I let my passport run out, but I have friends who go over for a drive or shopping every few weeks.

Hey crazyheart, i am taking vacation end of October

I should say the multiple fronts is all at work and is a predictable outcome of a decisions made. Individuals quitting, badly fit replacements, and shortage of skilled resources. When combined with a massive influx of work we have a perfect storm which is made rockier by those in middle management who approach things by emotions and threats and senior leadership which has a great vision and expectations of delivery.

My daugher's passport was recently renewed, and she was able to renew it for a 10 year period - I think that is great! When we have to renew ours in a few years that is what I am going to do.

Hey, some of these aspects remind me of church :).

Funnily enough, that's what I did this weekend. Didn't rent though. We broke down and bought one years ago so I just hauled it out storage and bought some carpet shampoo. Room may feel fresher but damn was I stiff for a day or two afterwards.

Many years ago when we first got wall to wall carpeting (as opposed to area rugs) I thought we had arrived.
Then, all that vacumning--plus seasonal cleaning--just not my thing.
Eventually we pulled them up, moved our furniture to the basement or kitchen, arranged to sleep in my cousin's spare room, and had our hardwood floors sanded and finished. They looked fantastic.
Before long, with the dogs toenails, toddler granddaughter's toys, plus me moving my chair to watch TV or join a conversation, they got scratched and scuffed. Then I could relax and let them be. Sweep or damp-mop once in awhile -- and I don't miss all that vacumning and deep cleaning.

Pinga-in all the busyness and the yuckyness at work take time for you. Breathe, go for walks, slip the occaional work out in there-work will end soon-but you won't so do try to take care of yourself as well.

Haha, good one Chemgal. Wise words as well, Tabitha.

@Carolla how are you doing with the Patrick Rothfuss novel? Thought of you as I read a cute blog re gender stereotyping that he wrote.

I'm off to work shortly, I may try to write a synopsis of a typical day. At one point yesterday, I had 8 chat windows open, waiting for me to get off the call that I was chairing. At one point, I figured there must be an outage as 3 people from a team were pinging me. When I looked, they were each pinging on different topics, so went back to my call. I realized later that some of it is as people try to write up their reviews and meet their objectives, year end is sept30 so people are trying to close projects. (On the plus side, my last year review is not finalized, this year's objectives were never set/documented and mid-year was never done, so, we have no objectives that we can be ranked on -- plus/minus of that one, i can tell you).

The company whose software I am an expert on (as a customer) has an IPO this week. I have been interviewed by investors regarding the product. It will be interesting to see how the stock price goes. I don't play the market, but this is one that I would by, if I did.

I'm going out for a drink with a good friend tonight. We will have laughs and talk about the world and our families, and politics and life in general. Like this room, I am reminded of the world and it is good.

I'm actually so busy this week that I forgot to go to Book Club last evening. They were discussing 'Bel Canto', a book I loved, and I was looking forward to it. Instead I collapsed in front of the TV after supper, slept through MASH. Woke to watch Jeoprady with Seelerman, and then got into my jamies for bed.
Just as busy today -- I've been down at the church doing my usual Wednesday morning volunteer work, feeding the hungry. Big crowd and short handed today. And some of the clients were beligerant. One guy stamped out telling us "Thanks for Nothing" when we told him that he would have to wait--there were about 30 ahead of him. I try to be kind and think that perhaps he was hungry and disappointed. We try to be fair in our distribution, which means that the most aggressive don't get to go ahead of those who have been waiting patiently and no one gets as much as they want (or need). The others were appreciative. One client stayed all morning to help me and offered to come back next week. Another packaged up toilet tissue into two roll packs without being asked. (Someone recently donated several cartons). And a restaurant nearby (managed by a church member) sent over trays of day-old cold cuts that we were able to package and give away.

seeler, did you ever have a talk with businesses to see what they might donate or do you already do this?

The Community Kitchen gives us their excess donations. Today we had a case of soup and a case of canned tomatoes. The local restaurants have a rotation set up--they take turns sending over meals for our Saturday evening drop-in. I don't know if any others have been approached.
Another down-town church gives out TimHortons gift cards--I don't know if Tims provide these or if someone else has set-up the arrangement.

Just checking in...All of you sound wonderfully busy. My life is a little less busy at the moment...I have no immediate church services to prepare. Whew. I'm taking a bit of a break from the Licensed Lay Worship Leader thing, for a variety of reasons. My grandson broke his arm though. He needs a little extra tlc and understanding. He is wearing a full arm cast...right arm...As a five year old, he is being pretty brave, but every now and then he breaks down and says he wants it off! That happened last night when he tried to brush his teeth with his right hand, and couldn't manage to get the toothbrush anywhere near his mouth! Poor little guy. Busy at school, with a needy, but nice class of 20 Grade 1 and 2 students. Sister is going through some health concerns (hope it isn't cancer). My principal still gives me grief, mostly by ignoring me or not telling me information that she gives everyone else. I'm trying not to take offense though...trying to be a better person this year than I was last year when that kind of thing really upset me. So...life in a nutshell.

Had a little visit with my doc today. Little thing on my back was worrying me, largely because of my father's melanoma in the spring. Nothing to worry about, or so he says. It's definitely not a melanoma or anything likely to turn into one. Back to fretting about my messed up arms (seeing the dermatologist for another attempt at a diagnosis but not until November). Best guess, based on previous inconclusive biopsies, is psoriasis.
