I wonder what this says about wondercafe as a comparison to church.
We have so many members who come into wondercafe in a time of their life, and then circumstances change or a fallout occurs, and they disappear.
Is that similair to church? Wonder if it is worth a thread discussion.
 
Feeling your sadness...loss of a dog, loss of a posting friend. Very tough. Our church just lost our secretary/treasurer to cancer. It was a cancer that usually is not fatal, but, unfortunately, the doctors didn't diagnose quickly enough. She was a pretty special lady, just celebrated her 65th birthday. Our choir is singing at her funeral, which will be held in our church. I hope to sing from memory, as my teared-up eyes won't let me see what's written on the page. She kept involved in her church job until last Saturday, when she handed over the final reins to my sister.

The company that I worked for used to give us a turkey every year at Christmas. It was a large one, and came in a sturdy box clearly indicating it was a Christmas item.
From when I lived on my own, I started to store Christmas ornaments in those boxes, and all the paraphernalia of Christmas.
Each year, I would get a new one, and in general, there was more stuff to pack away. I became "we", and then there was a house, and kids and the boxes kept being added along with stockings, and ornaments, and decorations. Some boxes would be wrecked through the years, but, on average there was 15 or so boxes making the annual trips (bring them down from the attic, unpack, decorate, put them back up....have christmas....then, bring them down, repack, and send them back up.).
Being an old house, and having an attic, on occasion a mouse would get into a box, and that would result in a purge of items or cleaning (one year, a bunch of towels appeared to have been used for building nests).

So, this year, it is the end of the cardboard boxes. New bins were purchased which seal. Stacking is easier, they are clear, so one can see what is in them. Definitely better for husband & sons carrying up & down stairs.

But, there is something about the end of the boxes. Yes, they have a bit of an attic smell. Yes, they are warped, and have had handles taped in an attempt to keep mice out. Yes, they don't stack. For something that was designed to only bring home a turkey, they have served us well, some for close to 30 years.
 
Alex was Youth Worker, I think . He had hearing problems and his dog died ,remember?

He went to visit Omni up North I think.
 
There were two folks. One was YouthWorker, the other lived in Ottawa, and he travelled to the east coast to see family, and was more mature (aka older)

I have a box my aunt used to store her Christmas stuff in. It's an old laundry detergent box from 1961.
 
Sorry to come back after a weekend away to see that some here in the Room are mourning. The basset hound whose comparison to a tank unable to fall on a slippery sidewalk I shared with my husband because it was too funny... Olivet_Sarah who I remember was so excited to adopt the biological brother of her son on short notice... And a beloved church secretary lost to cancer as I am currently struggling with the health of my mother in-law.

May we all be comforted in the ways that we need by the people (and pets) who remain in our lives.

It's stuff like this which drove me to look at how to archive the old site properly. Not to go on a rant, but it was easy to tell the UCCan wasn't interested in saving the content.

The archive is hosted on a free hosting account. It's not fast, but it's way better than Wayback Machine, which takes little incomplete snapshots across the entire known Internet.

I was actually contacted by the UCCan a couple of years ago with a request to take the archive down. I just ignored it. They can pound sand. If they get it taken down, it'll just reappear somewhere else. Probably multiple places.

Why?
 
Why did they want it taken down? Copyright. They own the content.

And while technically true, I don't care. I have not monetized the content. There are still no ads. I make no money from it, so they can't say I'm profiting. I just want the content available. Some of it for personal reasons. I don't actually visit those threads. Still a little too painful. I just like the idea of them floating around rather than offline for good because some moron at the UCCan thinks Facebook is a better platform and never figured out that Wondercafe didn't have to cost hundreds of thousands of dollars until after the money was spent and we made them look like idiots with a way better WC2 site on a shoestring budget.

Rant off. I knew that was coming.
 
Sure they own it, but it's not like they are getting anything from it and you're not profiting. Just sharing what we all contributed to.
 
Watching the Green Bay & Dallas game.
They were way ahead when I finally came downstairs, and since then, the lead has slipped.
My husband and oldest son are suggesting that I go back upstairs.
