Sunny day today. A friend's son is having an outdoor wedding nearby so I'm pleased for sunshine for them (after our week of rain). It's a quilting day for me so after my morning walk I'm off to sew.

It is a cool day here today.
Came home last night to a surprise. I arrived earlier than my husband thought, and he had bought and was almost finished the install of a new shed. Awesome surprise. Including a place for easy access to tools. The motorcycles can be stored in it over winter along with the lawnmower, and the snowblower, etc, in the summer. Nice to have a shed again. We had a smaller one which had finally given up the ghost a couple of winters ago.

Had a rough ferry ride there (4 to 6 foot waves) but it was a lot easier than the one home which was 5 to 7 foot waves. The difference seemed to be the angle they hit, as instead of a side to side , it introduced a roll as well, and that made the stomach go. There were a lot of folks feeling crappy on the ferry. Thankfully it passed once we landed, and I could drive home easily.

Had a lot of fun at the Packers game. I am reminded that most people really want to go about their lives, carrying for their family, sharing a luagh with others, being good.

4 to 6 ft waves ... a calm day on the fundamentalist Bae ... or Bay Of Fun dies ...

Returned home with 10 # of fresh haddock ... like I was the Fisher King ... a myth to behold!

You must have been working so diligently Tabitha - sounds like a lot of work to me to get a whole top done!!

Well done Tabitha. I'm looking forward to seeing a photo of your new quilt finished. I started a quilt top yesterday and completed it today. A very simple right angled triangle one. Still have to attach a back and do the quilting part. I enjoy free motion work. I'd really like to make something a bit more imaginative - but the things I imagine are beyond my skills!

Could you take a quilting class, Kay, to expand your skills?

I confess to having 'announced' that I was taking up quilting this summer, thus getting a number of my friends who quilt excited, and spurring my sister to a birthday gift comprising some handy tools. I even dug the 1950s Singer out of its spot in preparation for taking it in for a service and a 1/4" foot. And then I stalled...

I used to see adorable things to knit when my kids were small -but I just didn't have the time to spare. Thinking ahead, I saved all the sweet patterns. Made an adorable sweater for the first grandchild and was told "Thanks, I guess - is it machine wash and dry? If not give it to someone else and do all the handwashing at your house" . Heresy from my own kid!! When did she get too important to wash a wee sweater in the sink??

ouch, that would hurt.

Also a slightly odd question, as I've not come across "baby wool" that wasn't machine washable...doesn't matter how fussy it looks as long as it's a washable yarn.

Things made with really fine yarn may technically be machine wash and dry - but in real life not do too well. Hubby tossed the shawl I made for my first kid into the washer and dryer. It wasn't quite as delightful after that. Some of the sweater patterns I saved are for those adorable items with fair isle pictures knitted in and the colours sometimes don't behave too well in machines. A few are like modern siwashes (sp?) with colours and pictures of kittens or tractors and so on. My choice for some things would be a good quality wool that does better being washed by hand. Oh well - it isn't earth shattering despite being a disappointment at the time. In general I rarely see handmade garments any more so maybe it is a generational thing? I have some wool sweaters that I really get a lot of pleasure (and use) out of as well as many favourable comments.

Yesterday, I went and picked up a costume for our Friday night board game night. shhh...I'm going to be the Hatter from Alice in Wonderland, aka the Mad Hatter. Had fun and looking forward to it. Haven't dressed up for Hallowe'en for a few years.

Today, I went to the first church study group in a long long time. The last ones that I went to I think I was leading.
It was good and I did enjoy the contributions of the leader and the fellow attendants.
I have homework, though. Not a tough one: Give compliments to strangers for their actions over the upcoming week.

Last evening was our regular square dance night and we had a halloween theme - costumes optional. Unfortunately few choose to dress-up. Seelerman is too shy or self-conscious. I can almost never coax him into a costume, but on the few occasions I do he has a great time and talks about it for years afterwards.
Anyway, I find I have more fun roll-playing. This year I realized that I had a 20 year old 'mother-of-the-bride' dress in the back of the spare room closet. Tried it on, still fit. I picked up a spray of artificial flowers from the dollar store to wear as my coursage and a flappy-brimmed hat at Value Village for $2.99. (I left the price tag on like Minnie Pearl). I went to the dance as the confused grand-mother of the bride looking for her granddaughter's wedding and ending up at a different dance party.
One man - I don't know if he was intentionally in costume or not. He usually dresses very casually, but he showed up in a suit, dark shir and tie - maybe he came directly from work or a rather formal dinner party. Anyway, at picture taking time when everybody in costume was called to the front I grabbed him and took him up as my date for the wedding party. We got lots of laughs; lots of fun.

My sister shared a cute video this week. My nephew likes to vacuum to the point where he gets upset if she does it. He actually knows what he's doing with the vacuum that is clearly awkward for him, forward, back move to the side a bit before going forward again. He was doing a small area next to a change in flooring, he even went all the way back to where the hardware and tile met. Who knew this was possible for a baby (he's still not 1) to do?

Let's hope that early enthusiasm remains. My seventeen year-old is supposed to do the vacuuming in our place and it is like pulling teeth to get it done.
