That must have been quite a Jays game to attend, eh pinga? I've been watching some of the Euro Cup soccer - some nailbiter finishes there! My son & his gf are in France & have been to a number of games - and will be at the Germany-France semi-final later this week - that should be an intense game!!

Had a great weekend - lots of socializing & feasting, some rest, some gardening, some exploring the countryside ... and back to work today. Then had some colleagues over for supper in the garden tonight - I love the long days of summer when such things seem so leisurely! Have some GO Adventure Camp volunteer stuff to organize tomorrow, some presbytery work to do, and on Wed dragging a friend out to start looking for her 'mother of the groom' dress. So a good week ahead!

Glad to hear they are having a good time, Carolla.

Love the pictures of youth headed to Vancouver for GO, and the passionate that is ignited by being part of the program. Such a great initiative.

Finally got both airconditioners set up - an old window-model that is built into the wall in the livingroom and a portable in the bedroom. Ceiling fans in almost all rooms. I'm able to keep the house reasonably comfortable.
A friend's brother was killed in a freak accident on the weekend - he hit two young moose with his motorcycle - someone from a nearby house found him lying unresponsive in the middle of the road and before hee could ddo anything the man was hit by a car. An autopsy may decide just what the cause of death. And i don't know the condition of the two moose.

The morning newspaper says that one moose was killed and the other so badly injured that it had to be put down.
Visitation is Wednesday; funeral Thursday morning. I will go to the visitation; I have two separate medical appointments Thursday morning.

Question regarding funerals - as in this case, I know one of the mourners but did not know the deceased. The funeral is in a large church and open to all. For those of you who ordinarily attend funerals, do you go in these circumstances - to support your friend in her grief even when you don't know the deceased?

I've never gone to a funeral on that basis, but I have for visitations, eg. my son's grade 7 & 8 teacher lost her husband while Little M was in her class so a group of kids and parents went to the visitation.

Probably would go to the visitation if a close friend; or go for a cup of tea and visit to chat in a quieter time & place. Dreadful situation - I feel greatly for the person discovering the body in the road & then seeing it hit by the car come by - that's the stuff of nightmares.

I had a chat with RedHead last night. Out of the blue her name popped

up. I think she is still struggling but is upbeat as always. She did sound lonely.

I've attended funerals based on knowing one of the mourners but not the deceased. This is if I couldn't get to the visitation for some reason.

Pinga...I love your diplomacy, especially when it involves the Blue Jays!

I'm going to volunteer for the GO project in a couple of weeks. That is the condition my daughter gave me when I asked if I could sign up my grandson! I'm looking forward to it though.

My sisters and I are in the process of inheriting a camp on St. Joe's Island. Lots of pros and cons, but the pro was this weekend. My husband and I stayed there and did a few things to get the place up and running. It's right on the channel where we can watch the ships coming and going. Lots of wildlife too, as the camp is in the bush, but a stone's throw from the water. lovely.

Oh - beautiful St. Joe's Island! I used to visit friends who had a farm there - we had lots of good times together at their goat farm. Alas they sold it some years ago. But a retired couple from our church are also resident on St. Joe's for a few years now! Is it a long drive from you home Nancy?

And more connections via the GO project! Is your grandson going to the Adventure day camp or the teen project? My church & Birthstone's have hosted the day camp last year & now next week :-) Lots of fun stuff going on.

I seldom go to visitations but do attend the funerals. Just a different practice than Carolla. I might go to funeral and bring a card and then later visit friend for tea.

We are an hour away from the camp. We (as in my mom, brother, sisters and I) own the shore property right beside it. It is from a piece of land that was at the back of the family farm years ago. When the farm was sold, the shore property went to my Grandpa and my Great Uncle. Grandpa's piece was divided between his three kids. One of those built a beautiful cottage (all we built on ours was a beautiful picnic table!). He is the uncle that died this year and he decided he wanted to keep it in the family. It's a little overwhelming...Remember, we're used to only having to upkeep a picnic table!

The Go project is the Adventure Day Camp one. It's only the second year it's been in our area. Last year, it was announced late so there were not many registered.

One of the ladies in our HR department had a baby a month ago and popped in for visit this afternoon to show off the new addition to the family (their first). Man, after being a parent of a teen who has been big for his age since he was born I'd forgotten how tiny a one-month old really is. I offered to trade but she wasn't biting. :D

I'm feeling a bit frustrated. There have been 2 drownings-one in each nerby lake in the last month. One a canoe tipped, one someone fell off a SUP (paddleboard). In both cases lifejackets weren't being worn. Both deaths were preventable.
I wish the news write-ups would stress that. With the canoe-the other paddler survived. With the SUP, as the rescue boat is looking for the body-there is another person on a SUP helping. Guess what-no lifejacket

Yes I get that they are hot, or uncomfortable-but they do have small one, even ones that inflate only on water impact. And yes good swimmers should wear them too!

Thanks for listening friends.

I saw my niece holding a baby on the new boat that her Mom bought. The baby had a life jacket. My niece didn't. I nattered at her.

several friends posted photos of themselves on the water lately. No lifejackets. Bill Mason said one of his regrets was that so often he was filmed or photographed without a lifejacket. That is one thing he would have changed-he would have worn one more.

Sad to hear about those deaths Tabitha. PFDs have certainly improved SO much from the bulky old "keyhole style" of my youth! I get that the low profile ones are costly - but what's a life worth? That's the thing with 'accidents' isn't it - we never think they'll happen to us. Sad.

I have a jobsite just down the road from Trinity-St. Paul's United Church in Toronto, near Bloor and Spadina. What a massive freakin' church. The facade needs so much work - it's black with age and neglect. But what a beautiful building.

Good morning world. Nice that you noted the buildings architecture, some of these spaces are amazing both inside & out. Some are also pretty neat in terms of people. Trintiy-St.Pauls has had many of my friends attend.

so, world, it is a good day today, isn't it?
It is warm in S. Ontario with another hot day slated for today.
I'm headed to Five Oaks today with a good friend to continue research and investigation. Such a wonderful set of people are dedicating a lot of time this summer and early fall. Thankful for them all. Many A type personalities as well, and leaders, which is awesome, as many directions, many fronts. love these kind of groups.

I may go to the pool today, we have a lovely pool in the park near our home. It is a good way to cool body temperature. I am also going to a united way leadership event this evening. yum. it is a tasting event with a local chef.

Haven't been in that area in a while but a couple of my buddies lived in the neighbourhood in the early 90s while doing grad work at U of T so I passed that church many times en route to visit them. Lovely church and one of the main venues for the Tafelmusik Orchestra to boot.
