Happy retirement, Nancy!

Just got back (Tuesday, actually, but the week has flown by as I recover my rhythms after a bit of jet lag) from a most wonderful trip through a small part of the canal system of England/Wales, including a mini-education in British steam engines. Have eaten some great food, including some wonderful local cheeses, and sampled some great local ales in some ancient and beautiful local pubs amongst some of the most beautiful scenery in Cheshire and Wales. The original canal system, managed by British Waterways, populated by many dozen local "lines", was the means by which the country moved and traded her goods, from coal to potatoes to cheese. The original canal system was designed for "narrowboats" pull by horses, hence the "tow path" on one side or other of the canal. It's now a fairly popular (but still something of a hidden 'gem') hobby and tourist/holiday vacation. I'm fairly convinced that I'd like to retire onto the canal, living on a narrowboat year round...

Retirement - big cheers for you Nancy!!

Sounds like a great get-away Bette - I love to explore places that are a bit off the usual tourist path as you did.

Must be sigh of relief jae to be off school for a bit. Does that mean you work more hours in the summer?

Enjoyed the Canada Day parade in my community with friends & all the neighbours from our block. Then home for a delicious feast & lots of conversation with friends & their kids. After putting away all the left-overs we're now about to go out for 'round two' - get together with other friends, supper, and if we're still awake we'll walk several blocks down to the river for the amazing fireworks display! We had a huge downpour of rain this afternoon, but all is clear now & the earth certainly welcomed the much needed rain. Feeling blessed on many levels today.

It's a fun day to kick off retirement Nancy, congrats!

I've been outside a fair bit today. Out for a free breakfast, went to the beach and was there longer than expected, sat on the deck while Chemguy BBQed - was pretty happy our guests choose to eat indoors after all of that. Debating if we'll go to the fireworks or not. It gets packed to actually park over there and the walk is longer due to a fenced off area for a school that's being built. We also might have some thunderstorms tonight - so undecided for now.
Either way it's been a good day and I did a fair bit already.

Happy retirement Nancy. Relax, enjoy your time (you will find it gets filled up quickly, hopefully with doing things you enjoy).

Canada Day - I meant to go bowling as usual on a Friday (during the summer we don't bowl in a league on teams but any of us who are free show up at the bowling ally for an informal time).
But Seelerman suggested that we take a short drive out to Seelergirl's place sso she could help him with something on his smart phone - and then in the afternoon go downtown and see what was happening. I was a bit worried about how far away we would have to park, if I could carry a chair or stand to watch activities, how long we would stay, and the heat (it was almost 30 and sunny). Seelergirl solved it - she and Pete would come with us - drop us (and our chairs) off close to the 'square', and then look for parking. As it was we found an empty parking spot 1/2 block away. And a spot for our chairs in the shade of a big oak tree. We were a distance from the bandstand but we could see and hear the speaches and entertainment and people watch. We were joined by Seelerman's niece. A nice Canada Day - and I can bowl next week.

wow, how wonderful problem solving, and only could be done if needs are spoken or understood.
What a delightful day.

Sometimes items get added to my agenda that I wasn't expecting. Our school division is closing the school my office is at.(we were not expected to move offices until Jan or even next June). What was not known was the BC dept. of Education stepped in on Thurs. and provided grants to keep 2 more schools open. (can anyone say Election in 2017?) Long story short-we (7 of us) are now moving to another school into the rooms prepared for an influx of students from a school no longer being closed.

So added to my summer plans is packing (and unpacking) my office and store-room of supplies.

What brought a smile to me yesterday was the inpromptu dancing

by Justin and his his crew. Sophie's outfit was quite wonderful. Who'd a thought the Govenor

General and his wife could cut the rug?

Oh Tabitha what an unfair decision I wonder if they plan to pay you for working on your holiday? I wonder how they would handle having a staffmember away all summer? Unfortunately I think I know the answers already.

Happy retirement Nancy! I'm sure it won't properly sink in until September when back to school doesn't mean back to school. My mom has always said she is going to go in the middle of the year so it actually feels different than just ending for the summer.

The bfs sister has been taken off of the tubes and out of the ICU. She is very weak, unable to sit up or hold anything, so she will be there a while yet. They also haven't found out why her seizures are worse than normal so they are still looking for a solution for that. Happy she is out of ICU but will feel much better if we could get answers.

I was listening to CBCs white coat black art yesterday and they were talking to a bunch of mom's with children with complex medical needs, it made me wonder what @DaisyJane was up to.

Upgraded my phone today. Went from a Windows Phone to a Samsung Galaxy St neo. This is going to take some adjustment. Missing Cortana :(

Kay-we will get 2 days in lieu one for packing one for unpacking I am away a good part of the summer. It will take a bit more than 1 day to pack but teachers get no packing time when moving schools.

Actually, Cortana for Android is in beta testing as we speak. I would not recommend using the test build but watch for it.
