It wasn't the worst shooting in US history That dubious honour is reserved for "Wounded Knee" but it is horrific and more than 125th shooting this year........

Well, Wounded Knee was a military action....and involved many shooters.

I am not sure that you can compare the two. Both are horrific.
 
On December 29, the U.S. Army’s 7th Cavalry surrounded a band of Ghost Dancers under Big Foot, a Lakota Sioux chief, near Wounded Knee Creek and demanded they surrender their weapons. As that was happening, a fight broke out between an Indian and a U.S. soldier and a shot was fired, although it’s unclear from which side. A brutal massacre followed, in which it’s estimated 150 Indians were killed (some historians put this number at twice as high), nearly half of them women and children. The cavalry lost 25 men.

The conflict at Wounded Knee was originally referred to as a battle, but in reality it was a tragic and avoidable massacre. Surrounded by heavily armed troops, it’s unlikely that Big Foot’s band would have intentionally started a fight. Some historians speculate that the soldiers of the 7th Cavalry were deliberately taking revenge for the regiment’s defeat at Little Bighorn in 1876. Whatever the motives, the massacre ended the Ghost Dance movement and was the last major confrontation in America’s deadly war against the Plains Indians.

Just saying it was a group that was targeted, many were not armed, it was NOT war but rather wiping out a "problem". Both are horrific.
 
The power of fire arms is a destructive thing if you don't understand and respect the implication of power and corruption ... there is a po'ly understood entanglement ...

@Pinga 's point is that Wounded Knee is not being counted because it's a rather different scenario. Rather than an individual hater or private group gunning people down out of hate, it was an official arm of the US government acting in its official capacity. It gets counted under government oppression rather than hate crime. Which, really, makes it even worse but also makes it less comparable.
 
actually I have noticed that the news outlets are now saying "worst shooting by a single shooter" and that I agree with.
 
I'm in Washington DC - in a thunderstorm! That last clap of thunder shook the building - we're on the top (4th) floor of a good size hotel!! Not a fan of thunder storms at the best of times! The day was better weather - we went to Old Town Alexandria - lots of historic architecture, small shops, many restaurants. Had lunch overlooking the river ... very nice! Tomorrow morning we're going to a memorial service at Arlington National Cemetery - full military honours. Hoping the rain will let up, as we'll be outdoors and as there is also a fly-over scheduled, as the person being honoured was pilot.

Ubuntu was originally an African philosophy. Tutu merged it with aspects of his Anglican theology to come up with his ubuntu theology which is largely to be credited for ending Apartheid.

 
U Bun Tu ... another form of bread in the fruit of Tous ... not unrelated to Nous as words fly about there ... as part and parcel of God's ole essence ... with all the hate of dark things ... we seemed to get around that point that's epi centre ... if you can unravel the hidden understanding of that article "epi"!

Then you might get a peace of the action as epi's! In the vast ness of the dark pool it's out there and within ... consecutively, or as congruent! Perhaps some Dan Goleman would assist with Emotional Intelligence ... a tome too far dissociated as epi tome, or alternately E pit o'my? Sum say kinda AUMi as they can't grasp the sophistication, complexity and chaos thereof ...
 
Seelerman and I (with a little help yesterday from a visiting neighbour) just finished a 1000 piece puzzle. Beautiful picture of an old fashion steam engine pulling out of Boston for Montreal just at sunset. Interesting cloud forms and colours in the sky - and very hard to put together. And we are missing a piecee - we've searched everywhere - floor, between chesterfield cushions, even checked the Roomba basket to see if she had picked it up. No luck. Do you suppose our neighbour slipped it into her pocket to be sure that she will be the last one to find a piece?

I have taken a hiatus from gardening to help my son, and do some work on my consulting business.

I am working on my son's website which entails hosted software, a purchased wordpress theme, and configuration with "wodify" and "bean counter" -- software for managing the schedules/classes and finances of a crossfit box (aka gym)
The theme is good and I think that we will all be happy with it when done. One of the challenges is getting the content updated to post within the site (crappy install script didn't convert, so some links push to their demo theme) . The other challenge is getting the content from the owners such as profile info, photos, class schedules, and so on. Not much different from any IT software implementation where you are chasing the content from the SME's, struggling with a crappy install script ??really who doesn't use variables??, and learning the nuances. My most recent one was I could not figure ot the google map insert they had, and how to customize it to his address. Put in a ticket, told to upgrade. I did. Still didn't work. Told them, and they said "oh, that doesn't work any more, you have to replace it with your own plug-in or code". Seriously. sigh.

For myy business, I am getting the incorporation done, business named, finances setup as I am negotiating the first statement of work for one client, who are intent to have me, and waiting on the second statement of work for another one. Two different types of contracts: the one has known about me for a while, and sat on the software until I was available and they had funds. The second is someone who met me when I helped out a fellow tech who was struggling with a problem. I gave him 30 min, and we resolved something that had had multiple people engaged for weeks. Out of it, a consultant created a white paper. When the consultant heard that I had gone independent, he asked if I would work with them (they get a % added to my rate). We had initial talks, and while they were ongoing, they actually had a contract they were working on that specifically needs my skills....so, that SOW is being developed to.

Then there is Five Oaks, and a sense of increasing engagement as we try to figure out what, if anything can be done with this environment

Of course, there is also the next 3 month appointment for my health, my gardens, my family, my friends, being social and so on.
Thankfully, both contracts will be less than full-time and flexible to my schedule....and be done virtually after the initial relationship building in person.
 
Thanks....new learning for me. Sometimes I wonder how I could get to be this old, and still need to learn so much in this world.
