The Saskatoon penguins are having a ball!
We always knew that there was some truth to the" Talking to Americans" show- now is a good time for Canadians to harden their igloos.

Must confess that my first assocation was the famous song by Lightfoot, Black Day in July, about the great Chicago Fire.

The Romans had their Black Dei ... under Neo Pall at in the burning of the empire ... a counter revolution that couldn't be mentioned ... as the rich and powerful regrouped ... E ville just is and the people of Rome do their best to get into anything you got ... what's "E" that's the Greek chi that 'll get to yah through ecce senses ...

A new take on weather talk: The news tells us that we are colder than Mars. And Trump gets in trouble for how he talks about the weather. Whatever happened to:; "Cold, eh?"

Cold -E ... tis Canadian and not a great as American blazes in the hyperbole ... a saddled thing ... if you Gnoes nob ETa ... then there is nun ... with chilly attitudes about the 'M alternates ... comes bi de thousands bais ... boies? The boies is mad (great Joies)about la Deis ... eM all about ... broad based thoughts? One should respect the angels ... even if the powers of richness cause in-vert states ... reverse psyche?

Two spirits don't know whether to take it or not .. thus great questions about poles ... a' post al IC blaze? May be confined in arbore ... and wisdom is tree'd! Perhaps Eve'n stumped ...

More planning for what was thought to be familiar but is contemptible and not respected ... especially for restricted thought processes ... as these may be broad-based too! Up to now Tue ... as dead ... after that mon Dei in the Sun ... especially if mundane ...

Happy New Year Everyone! Time to rise and shine or you'll miss that beautiful full moon setting in the West.

Someone must have dropped into the room quite late last evening (or early this morning) because there are still lots of bright red coals in the fireplace. I'll just stir them up a bit and add some cedar kindling. I brought in some white birch wood from the woodbox. Burrrrrr it's cold outside. But I'll soon have the room cozy. Now to get breakfast started - bacon and eggs anyone? Coffee? Eggnog?

Just having a quiet day here - sun is shining, snow all around - pretty to look at. Might venture out for a walk later ... we'll see!

Worked on our Tetris jigsaw puzzle - very slow going!!

And as is my tradition, I'm setting up my 2018 calendar - transposing all the birthdays etc. The calendar I have for this year was a gift from our son who brought it back from Barcelona - beautiful photography of Gaudi's many architectural marvels. BUT - it's laid out with MONDAY as the first day of the weekly grid! I hope I get the hang of it and don't show up a day late for meetings and appointments! Amazing what a small change like that does to throw us off kilter.

Welcome to 2018 - no doubt it will be interesting.

Just waved goodbye to my sister and kids as they start their long haul home. (18 hrs if roads are good)
Was great to have her here for 4 days.
Now the house will feel a little empty as Christmas packs up, and the noise of my kids and their cousins is just echoes

Pinga - it's hard to say good-bye when there is distance between you.
Yes, your house will seem quiet - but just think how it would be if you had them for the winter.

Did everybody see that beautiful full moon this morning? At 5:00 am it just cleared the overhang of the roof, now it is almost down to the trees, shining through their top branches, as the sun is considering rising in the opposite direction.
I love early mornings.

Kind a resembles an epi phany if you can see it ... as a flash ... th' y' goes ...

Travel and Christmas plans really aren't going great this year. Chemguy and I were fine, although the drive there was slow and not the safest conditions. My parents though - having to turn around and try another day (and that was getting close to an hour away from their place in normal traffic) and then conditions made it slow going for their drive home too - tacked on extra hours.
Now it sounds like they won't be able to make it, my Dad is pretty sick (acutely, should be recoverable). It sounds like they are still considering coming, but they really should stay put.

Now we can add "too cold for penguins" to our "colder than Mars" description. Interesting ways to describe the weather, but I'd love to hear: "unusually warm for this time of year". We keep our house quite cool (electric heat supplemented by an air-tight wood stove), and I am perpetually cold. It could be a long winter.
