Oh, painful concerts, awful...sometimes they just pick the wrong damned thing. Everyone suffers.

I'm quite down tonight; could do with some virtual hugs. I'm feeling a bit directionless, and fighting caregiver role to some extent.

I'm a little late to the game. I hope this virtual hug helps.

Ok, here is a vague memory.
I remember the honour's roll you were to get two diplomas, and I thought, when I got one diploma, oh, i guess I didn't make honour roll. Seemed odd, as I had 11 great 13 credits, with extreme marks in most, but, i didn't pay much attention as was already admitted to university.

41 years later...
I needed a copy of my highschool diploma. Had no idea where it was, wasn't very important to me, and I reached out for my transcript. They couldnt' find it, and in the midst of looking for another certificate, what did i find, but, my rolled up diploma.
Opened it up to scan it, and hahahaha...what was in there -- two diplomas -- normal and honours.

sigh, classic me.

This is what I remember.

Secondary School Graduation Diploma = Grade 12

Secondary School Honours Graduation Diploma = Grade 13

Nothing to do with your marks.

Haha, dang you are right.

The Secondary School Graduation Diploma(SSGD), awarded to 12th-grade graduates, and the Secondary School Honours Graduation Diploma (SSHGD), awarded to 13th-grade graduates, have both been replaced by a single qualification called the Ontario Secondary School Diploma

And humanity rushes forward to confuse further ... for that is the best way to keep the social structure divided ... a divine trait of passions and emotions de void of thought is afore us ...

Get it all together folks ... a fore luring story, isolated forlorn?

Halifax has opened an Ikea a week ago. Took a few hours off work to get there early with a friend and daughter in common law. Had a great time, eating at the restaurant, looking at absolute everything in the store, trying out chairs....we got there at 4 and left at 8.15!
Junior had moved out last October at which time we knew that Ikea was coming. I let him have my couch and rug and made due with one dining room chair and two garden chairs. ( my second hand dining chairs have fallen apart unrepairable lately).
So I had lots to shop for. Of course, they didn't have half of what I was looking for, but at least, I know what I want now- and I will have another opportunity to drive into Halifax and have some Swedish meatballs.

I am wondering why the American Thanksgiving is so much later than the Canadian. For me, Thanksgiving is about celebrating the harvest- and I doubt they are still harvesting in the US in late November. When I mentioned that at Thanksgivi g dinner, one of the guests said, Thanksgiving is not about the harvest but celebrates the arrival of the pilgrims ( to Canada/ US). That really confused me...
What do you celebrate at Thanksgiving?

Historically, the thanksgiving date hasn't been consistent. It was in May at least a few times. ETA - hmmm Can't find anything to back that up, I thought it was in May for a few-handful or years. It has evolved over time, now it celebrates whatever one is thankful for.

The whole Pilgrim thing is only for the USA. Ours is more a general giving of thanks for the harvest. The current fixed dates for both are of relatively recent vintage (1941 for the Yanks, 1957 for us though the second Monday in October had been the norm for a while prior to that).

In my childhood in England we had Harvest Festival in the autumn. It was celebrated at church too - with bountiful displays of garden edibles which were later distributed to people known to be in need. Sheaves of wheat were featured too. (Nope- I have no idea what was done with those). My brother used to admire the bread that was shaped as a wheat sheaf.

There was a special assembly at school too (no separation of church and state there), and the traditional hymns were belted out. I think we were encouraged to bring non perishable goods for distribution by one of the local churches.
