Oh Yuck to May snow revjohn! Hate to tell you ;) I was at the Roger Centre this afternoon, basking in sunshine watching the Jays get defeated by Texas. Fortunately it was 'Country Day' and the first 20,000 people got cowboy hats - so I had something to shade my eyes!

The latest I have ever seen snow is my b-day (May 4) and that was in Halifax at the end of one of their worst winters to that date (or so we were told). This was back when Mrs. M was teaching at Dal so 25ish years ago.

Snow in May does happen in Edmonton. I remember heading out for tent camping with the kids May Long as it snowed. I had to buy my daughter a coat to go over grad dress as it was cold and snowy. Way back before kids I remember 6 inches or more of snow mid-may. The leaves were out and many tree limbs came down due the weight.

Here in the interior of BC it still snows up in the mountains but today it's 30.

Calgary had snow the day of the wind storm. The day before it was 28C. I would say that Banff and area at the lower elevations gets snow about 50% of the time for the May long weekend. Up the mountains it would likely be higher.

This year though it's been surprisingly steady. A cold April and a warm May. It's nice to not be going through the ups and downs.

Hallelujah - we had a beautiful sunny day with a high of a perfect 21 on Sunday. And the prediction for the rest of the week is for cloudy and/or rain with the possibility of 'some sun' on Tuesday and temps in the teens. I don't mind the temps but I do long for the sun. Also wondering what all this rain is doing to the vegetable gardens and farms.

Well, I'll tell you, if the damned rhubarb is any indication, nothing bad, unless you consider "monster-sized" a drawback...

It sounds good, certainly worth a try. I do appreciate my mom's award-winning rhubarb pie in its ever-so-flaky traditional crust. Especially warm, with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream on the side.

Ah, a classic spring/summer dessert. Rhubarb pie a la mode.

Now my favourite rhubarb pie is rhubarb custard.

Oh yeah! I'd try that one too.

I skip the pie - just go straight to the stewed rhubarb & strawberries!

You can have them.

Remember awhile back when I first mentioned the flooding and the Keremeos fire chief was missing? His body was found yesterday. It seems he did fall in the creek and drown.

Sad to hear, but it is also good to hear that his body has been recovered. It more definitively answers some questions for those close to him. Also serves as quite a poignant reminder to all that even skilled & knowlegeable first responders can meet with unexpected fate at times.

Talking about pie- I am having lots of German cherry streussel squares with whipped cream. Also, my favourite is streussel " snails"- which is a round yeast dough piece the size of a hand with streussel and icing sugar. German bakery items are funny, besides " snails" we also have something called a " pig ear"- all purely vegetarian.
