Update on my waterline problem.
After the plumber put in the 140 ft water pipe, his buddy put the dirt on the trench, but didn’t compact it very well, leaving mounds of soil and rocks in my flower beds. I got that all raked out. Then got a landscape company quote, which was $12000 to remove the soil and put topsoil down and sod. The insurance only gives me $3500 for that, so I thought that I need to do that myself. Junior investigated , we found a guy in the area who would take the rocks and the fill for free, the plan was to rent a backhoe and dump trailer to get rid of the extra soil, then get topsoil delivered and then put sod down. Then I had second thoughts about the soil settling. If there is so much soil outside left, chances are that it will settle to a really deep ditch, making another mess after I put all the work and money into the fixing. I googled it and yes, if not compacted, it all says that it will go down over time, which can take months to years. There was also a” trick” to speed it up by sticking pipes into the ground and watering through them. I don’t have pipes, but started today to dig holes (. Can’t get deeper than a foot) and filling them with water. One was in particularly soft soil and the water seemed to disappear. It turned into a sinkhole. SomI am going to water my non-existing lawn this week - Upcoming Franklin will help over the weekend- and will see how much it will settle down. Might not need to remove any soil after that.
I hope I don’t trip over these holes and break my ankle….
