Pouring freezing rain here. No thunderstorms. The wind is very strong at timed.

Last year we occasionally saw cardinals at a distance. This year a couple are visiting our bird feeder along with a couple of blue Jay's, finches, chickadees, grackles, some birds with a solid gray back and white breasts a little bit longer bodied than chickadees. Robin's and wild turkeys explore around the house and yard. The bird feeder is getting coated in ice.

B's plane will be leaving soon or has already left from Calgary for Palm Springs. Her sister's partner is near death and she was asked last week to go down to be with them. Her return flights are next Wednesday and Thursday.

I just came home from the dentist. It was just a cleaning today. My gums feel a little cranky but will settle down. Charlene is the best hygienist I've had.

I'm having a coffee now. I'll get my stuff together and will head back to my sister's in a bit.

Nice that B can go to be with her sister at this time of transition. Stay inside & safe during that freezing rain @jimkenney12. And I think your little gray & white bird is likely a junco - we have some too - usually on the ground pecking around.

Sunny and cold here., Spring must be coming because the crows are back - crowing. We also have a red breasted nuthatch showing interest in a nesting spot outside our living room window.

They never leave around here that I can see. I hear them even in the thick of winter.

We would have ravens in winter up north and crows in summer. I think I've seen ravens here. I'm not sure when though. Plus they could have been larger crows. I'll have to pay more attention.

I have definitely seen ravens out West but I have never been on the island for long enough to see much of anything there. Just a cruise stop in Victoria.

We have been without power since 3pm yesterday. I failed at getting the generator in our motorhome started last night so I am hauling water from our partly flooded basement outside with a large pail. Paused foe a hrief rest

Good Morning! From morning thunderstorms to birds and walks, family health issues and power outages, ravens, crows, cardinals and cockatoos, and Maundy Thursday customs (foot washing, hand washing, distributing coins, et al), to all kinds of other thoughts, we gather here to share them. As we enter into what some call the Triduum, let us come together round the Coffee Cart, where hot beverages and warm friendships await. All is ready.

Thanks for the coffee. I had to look up Triduum.

My mom used to always say you learn something new every day.

I was unable to start the generator in our motorhome and was hauling water from our partly flooded basement to outside with a pail. Luckily, our neighbour was able to get more gas for his generator and I just plugged in our sump pump via extension cords from their place

Oh, trying to carry the water out would be awesome

We're on the side of a hill, so sump pump isn't an issue, but for my sister's property it sure is.

I'm so thankful the neighbour is sharing their power with you.

I should probably have backup power for my sump (I would get an insurance discount if I did) but our power is pretty solid. Local lines are below ground so things like ice storms don't tend to bother it unless a main goes down. When we had flooding issues, it was because the original sump our builder put in sucked eggs (highly technical term).

Oh gosh sump pump woes! Friend had BOTH their sump pumps fail last week - basement (fully finished & full of furniture and toys) flooded in nastiest of ways. Fingers crossed for those who depend on such items. We have a high water table where I live & several neighbours who have dug their basement deeper now rely on sump pumps - usually with alarms & battery back ups that last about 6 hours I think - long enough I guess to get an option in place.

Today I'm finishing up a grant application, hoping to get out for a walk, have a zoom mtg at 1pm, then picking up my little 9 yr old friend from his after school programme to bring him here for our first 'lego builders club' date. We'll build lego, unencumbered by a pesky little brother, then have some supper & I'll take him home after that. Looking forward to it!

We are certainly a busy group, with varied interests. Building Lego with a 9 year old sounds like fun to me! Tomorrow I will attend a meeting to plan a messy-church (called fun church) event in our city. We had one already and I helped out at it but was not involved in the planning. The planners seemed to think I was an asset (!) so invited me to the planning session. Hope I come up with some worthy ideas before then! I actually thought of lego building as one centre.
