Room For All

I wish I knew why women sometimes turn into bossy, self centred shrews when planning their wedding. I sometimes want to scream ENOUGH ALREADY with arranging minute details and telling people what they have to wear. I count myself as lucky that only one of my young became something close to a bridezilla! She wanted me to enjoy getting make up slapped on my face (I don't use it) and told me my dress was unsuitable (but I would have preferred jeans). She was an hour late leaving her guests stuck in a church without AC during a heat wave. My other two kids had very enjoyable, laid back weddings. Our own was cheap and simple.

We didn't have a wedding or baby shower, but I didn't enjoy the ones I went to for other people.

Good morning! As we gather around the Coffee Cart to discuss shingles shots and reactions to them, bridal/baby showers and how they have changed over the years, big weddings and the potential for bridezillas to plan them, who will consider "their" day RUINEDRUINEDRUINED if someone shows up wearing something not prescribed by an arbitrary dress code, (are there any stories about grooms doing something similar?) let us find community and conversation, as well as hot beverages, and possibly assorted goodies, to start our day.

Yum...the coffee is good. Yesterday, I went for tea and a visit with a friend who lives up the road. She lives so close, and we rarely get together, even though we say we should. I'm glad we both made time for it yesterday. She is very dear to me. Last week I had a good visit with another friend. I think maybe this will become a weekly thing. Pick a friend and visit.

Probably tiktok for them!
Or Instagram. But, yeah, I think social media is part of the problem. Brides (or grooms, or couples) who want to post all the pics and videos of their "perfect wedding." Used to be you were only competing with your friends and family, maybe within your community. Now you're competing with the whole f-ing planet. For something that, rightly, should not be competitive in the first place. I was happy just to get married in a small-ish ceremony, nothing lavish or "competitive". I'd go even lower key now, probably just a ceremony before a JoP or UU chaplain and then a party for family and friends.

One son had a big wedding planned for June 20, 2020. While many people postponed their weddings due to the pandemic, they had an outdoor wedding just a week after things had opened up for being an outdoor group. It was certainly a lot smaller than originally planned...just family and close friends. Then we rented the penthouse of a hotel, which had a large outdoor balcony. We had a bit of a celebration there. We also said how much we enjoyed this smaller-than-planned wedding.

Recently we have both noticed a lack of visitors. Yesterday we got a surprise visitor, a newish acquaintance, who phoned ahead. While chatting and sipping coffee, our son arrived (he is the one person who pops in regularly). Once he was integrated into the conversation our daughter showed up (haven't seen her for six weeks). The first guy left and within a few minutes a neighbour dropped in. Our daughter left. A bit later our son and the neighbour left. I started preparing the evening meal and a friend arrived to pick up something I had for her. We chatted until our normal supper time and after she left I hustled through chopping veggies for a stir fry served with leftover rice and fresh focaccia that I made that morning.

Although it was also nice to get some ideas.
Good and bad.
When i got married something I found was people would be like ugh I've seen this trend so so many times. But that was only true for people who had a lot of weddings or those getting married looking for ideas, scrolling pintrest plus blogs. I didn't use a lot of trends, I just went with a fairly traditional wedding but threw in a few I liked.

We wanted to marry rather than live together. We had very little money (one student, one low pay worker). My family would not be there - too expensive to travel. So we booked an officiant, told a couple of friends and my guy's mother. We purchased a ham, some potatoes and veggies. We popped the ham in the oven, dressed (his grad suit, a nice dress for me) and got married. No fuss, no hysterics, no arguments, no debt.

I was surprised by the number of people who assumed there was a baby on the way. Also by the people who declared that it wouldn't last because god wasn't involved. Oddly, we are still married when many of those people split up.

Good morning! As once again snow falls in this part of the country, we grit our teeth and push on. For visits with friends we give thanks. For weddings of all types, informal and painfully formal (influenced by 'good ideas' from social media), we continue to chew over. As these, as well as other subjects are talked over, we gather round the Coffee Cart, for friendship and hot beverages. All is ready, c'mon in.

I love my granddaughters but i wish they wouldn't share everything.

The wee one had a miserable sinus cold during her sleepover.

grandpa and grandma now have it.

Proof that antibiotics do nothing for a cold

Good morning. It's starting out dreary today. I'm continuing to work on the second sleeve of a sweater that was on holiday since 2017. I was moving along nicely (so I thought) on this sleeve then realized I had made a dumb mistake. Soooo I ripped it all out and started over. The good news is the second time round looks better. All part of the creative process I guess.

@JayneWonders I hope you and hubby feel better soon.

My friend who's seriously immunocompromised at the moment was told to avoid children, amongst other items :-) "They're serious germ reserviors". Personally I tend to think of them "little petrie dishes" :ROFLMAO: Sorry grandma & grandpa are unwell ... hoping it won't last too long.

Good morning! Happy Saturday! For grandkids with sniffles and colds, for grandparents who catch them, for knitters who 'patiently' undo mistakes and redo stitches, for all the other things that make up life, let us gather round the Coffee Cart for hot beverages, support, and conversation. All is ready.
