OMG, they got Celine Dion to do a song for Deadpool 2 of all movies. The video, of course, plays things less than seriously. Cute byplay at the end between Celine and Ryan Reynolds (in character as Deadpool).

The Hound + The Fox are a rather attractive, talented married couple with a YouTube channel. Mostly covers but they do have a few original songs.

A beautiful, romantic cover of a song I am not familiar with.

A country-ish take on the Imagine Dragons hit "Demons" featuring violinist Taylor Davis.

And a classic folk song that many have recorded over the years (Celtic Woman uses it as their concert closer) but I do love H+F's take on it.

famed Canadian Loreena McKennitt was on CBC recently. i find her music very mythic. i have used her music in many game session (Changelings, anyone?) and many homework hours were made much more enjoyable listening 2 her

Why Loreena McKennitt is leaving Facebook and half a million followers | CBC Radio

Loreena will be fine without FB. She predates it by a couple decades after all and has a strong fan base, like yours truly, who date back to the beginning of her career. It would be harder for a young artist who has built their career and fan base using social media to make a similar decision.

I have, I think, posted before about my love of NYC-based trio Against the Current and their powerful lead singer Chrissy Costanza. Last year, they apparently headlined the opening ceremony of the world championship grand final for the computer game League of Legends. And what a performance it is. I have seen Olympic opening ceremonies with less spectacle. And Chrissy is in fine form.

And the band is currently preparing to return from a short sabbatical, announcing their return by releasing clips from a stripped down, mostly acoustic UK performance they did a year ago. An ATC original from that concert:

Hey @Inannawhimsey, the new McKennitt album is out. Just downloaded it on Hoopla. Will give it a listen tomorrow
Interested too, love her music. I remember being at one of her concerts at Knox Church in Stratford with one of my sons and she mentioned my Dad as someone who inspired her....I should have went and introduced myself after the show, but didn't. My Dad had been gone for awhile so it was touching to hear her mention him. I didn't even know he knew her.

Chasing ghosts a counterpoint to those that would rather destroy the essence of life ... a virtue of the unknown?

It is best if brute essences don't know or life could be commandeered fro something other than gathering light-Lei ...

The corrupt powers would abject to the lesser stuff ... thus the "go against the grain" has nothing to do with seedy folks but sapiens ... drift of wisdom ...?????

Tis a contrary item as compared to winds of pure emotional expletives on delusions of grandeur ... wholly phoqah ... like ma mouths ... producing hairy words of mystery ... prompts for those wishing not to know anything strange ... like MU's in the chairs of flat out spots ... some bends allowed ... so as to get round that corner on Sunday Morning ...

We talked about Tony and Grammy nominated singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles recently in the Jesus Christ Superstar thread. Here she is in a terrific set of performances with the National Symphony Orchestra at Kennedy Centre in Washington, D.C. All the songs are written by Sara, drawn from her back catalogue.

And the song that I think introduced me to Sara Bareilles, her powerful hit "Brave"

Much as I love what she's accomplished on Broadway, these old songs remind me much I want a new album from Sara (I think she's talked about later this year).

Interesting note: the percussionist on Brave and one of the singers with Sara on Once Upon Another Time is Ben Folds, something of a pop music legend himself, who is now artistic advisor to the orchestra and organized the concert series that included Sara's appearance.

Can't resist. A live performance of another amazing Sara Bareilles hit from 2010.

It's been nearly two years since the murder of promising 22-year-old singer-songwriter Christina Grimmie. Her family now run her Youtube channel as a memorial and, to honour Mother's Day, they released a song she wrote for her mother. It was originally written when Christina was 12 and her mother was undergoing treatment for breast cancer, then polished and recorded later. And it's a beauty. I'm not clear on when Christina actually recorded it but it sounds like it's from the period when she was on The Voice or later as the song's climax is her mature voice at full power.

As mentioned, I have been listening to the new Loreena McKennitt album, entitled Lost Souls. And I'm not sure what more I can say other than it's a Loreena McKennitt album. The woman's quality and style are so consistent that if you know her music, you know what you're getting and a review is kind of pointless. For those not already into McKennitt, she performs pop-folk-World music with a variety of European influences including Celtic, medieval, Renaissance, and Spanish styles. She's a marvellous singer and harpist and always surrounds herself with top quality session players (I haven't found full credits for Lost Souls yet, but whoever plays flamenco guitar is fantastic).

A couple tracks from Lost Souls. There don't seem to be any official or live videos out yet so these are audio-only tracks.

Sounds a lot like...Loreena. Love her. Don't find she changes style much, but I'm always happy to enjoy the treasures she discovers. Gorgeous voice; lovely range.

Always be cautious about weavers and weaves ... they may cause troughs of depression ... darker spots?

They may resemble speak easy where you can get soul musique ...

Dave Grohl is something of a living rock legend. Whether behind the drum kit for Nirvana or Them Crooked Vultures or playing guitar and singing in Foo Fighters, he has been a fixture on the music scene since the late eighties.

However there is another role he plays surprisingly well for a rock star: Dad. Here, he accompanies his daughter Violet on an Adele cover for a charity concert.

And sister Harper joins Violet and Dad. Yes, she's in her old man's usual spot behind the kit. Chip off the old block, I guess. The song is one of Grohl's, originally written for Foo Fighters.

And in case you're wondering, yes Harper Grohl really is learning to bang the skins. With a very accomplished teacher.;) Here she is drumming for Foo Fighters for the first time.

Lake Street Dive is out touring the new album and amateur video is starting to leak on to YouTube. The next song is one of those. It's a lively version of the song "Dude", a rare flat out rock song from LSD. One of my favorite songs on the new album.
