As I understand it, it is declining COVID rates combined with a fairly high vaccination rate. But I haven't delved much. I have heard that the NHS trusts and other healthcare groups are not impressed.

Here’s what I don’t understand. What should people got the vaccines and the booster supposed to do now? We know vaccines are somewhat effective against omicron. And that omicron is relatively mild.

Those still secluding themselves on account of being high risk (for me it’s age, I’m now 70), what are we supposed do? Resume life as it was 2 years ago?

I check for Covid stats in BC and there are still cases and deaths. So what are other people going to do?

Yes, we will likely all be exposed at some point. But people still die from it and we should not pretend it is harmless to them. We are now just calculating in the losses…because we are so tired of the masks.

Like all these mandates lifting...and the virus still with us. Shouldn't there be people asking for these people's heads and saying they are endangering other people? (Not advocating btw, just an observation)

I would guess the authorities know that everyone can spread the thing now and anyone can catch it...

I guess it is where it has always been--up to us as people to decide what to do

As everything has risk and we can find the data on which activities have the most risk...which mask...etc.

When the CDC halved the time for asymptomatic covid sufferers to 5 days

And the reason given omg

It is so arbitrary imho

There is too much imho of bloody manipulation by the people who have the facts and should be helping us to make good decisions

To me, this has just proved how totally "global" our world population is.

There's no "keeping things out". Country borders mean nothing to viruses. We still continue to travel, often for good reasons, like going to see ill family, etc.

And yeah, the easing of restrictions in many places has become merely an election strategy, as in Ontario, where "Ford Nation" is a bit determined to buy us all. I spit on Doug's suspension of license plate fees (if I can't afford $10 a month for a clean sticker, I shouldn't be driving, FFS), and I sneer at his de-masking strategy, and I'm never voting for him.

I work in a time machine, LOL. There are quite a few different clocks in the store where I work, many of them electronic. They still vary in time by almost 10 minutes from the slowest to the fastest...

That will be an interesting one to watch. Different age demographics plus the earlier infection rates weren't as high.

I'm going to ease up a bit, although right now case counts are still a bit too high to ease up a lot. If Chemguy has a work function now that I have booster protection he doesn't have to separate himself to eat. I will probably eat on a patio when the weather improves. With family who has had covid, I'm comfortable visiting. With those who have not, as long as people feel healthy/no obvious exposures we can do things inside, unmasked.

Chemguy's dad will be moving to BC. We may end up flying out there, masked.

I also expect a lot of what I am ok with doing to change a bit based on cases, variants, medications, etc.

There are folk that say there is no such thing as mental dissociation ... so extreme that if they suffer dissociation ... they cannot see it for the darkness! Then there are those at the bottom of the well ... looking up and only seeing stardust falling in the form of protons, electrons and other particles as objects ... they get confused with the subjective vision when in a dark garden of right or wrong and cannot divine ... especially to satisfy the schists urge ... to play up those fearful urges ... some balance needed!

It is stated I cannot say such things because it addresses mine thoughts ... ever get that feeling of falling into a social mine ...

Where is he going to in BC?

Parksville. We would likely just drive if it was like a prairie drive. I don't have great memories of getting through the mountains as a kid. There's also the issue of what we could drive, Chemguy prefers the truck outside the city, but he needs permission to go out of the province for personal use.

China is experiencing a large outbreak of Covid cases and are in lockdown, and England is also starting to see alarming numbers of Covid rise after removing restrictions.

I don't think cases is how decisions will be made going forward. If death and hospitalization rates (rates, not numbers) are manageable and don't exceed those of a bad flu year, I doubt we'll see any action to reimpose public health measures. Maybe masking will make a comeback but I wouldn't count on it. That's not to say I support Ontario's move. I would have kept vaccine passports and masks until at least May to gauge the impact of other measures. Wife and I plan to keep wearing masks for shopping and such and I, of course, will follow whatever rules my employer uses.

We have been going to restaurants occasionally. Now we will wait for outdoor dining. I will keep wearing my mask for indoor activities and might double up with an N95 mask over my cloth mask.

Chemguy had to do some safety based certification, done at another company. So a bunch of people from various places and he was the only one wearing a mask. I wish companies who focus on safety training would just require them! They were at least spaced out.

I was surprised to see BC drop the mask mandates so quickly. It may be fine for many spaces. I don't understand why they were dropped on public transit. I'm thankful I don't rely on transit and that I won't be taking a bus anytime soon. We will be on the ferry at the end of next month. I'm not overly concerned about that since the ferry is a bigger space and there's the option to sit outside. I guess we'll see how things evolve from here.

I wish all governments would just keep masking in for things deemed essential. Ie. If it was allowed to be open 2 years ago, masks should be required, as long as it doesn't impede with service. So speech therapy? Sure, no masks as the visualization helps. But the pharmacies, grocery stores, etc. let people be able to get meds and grocery in a relatively safe environment.
If a bunch of people want to sit unmasked in a pack theatre, that's a choice. (Ideally theatres would have masked only rooms too, let people pick and choose, but I'm fine with leaving that up to individual places to determine themselves).
