But high for an outbreak!71 does sound low. I'm sure there will be more turning up in the next 10-14 days or so

Plus even for influenza we test people who don't require hospitalization. This seems rather extreme and premature Alberta covid plan
I realize this will become like any other public health issue. It just seems early to do that now.
Seems good to me, really. I'd have to show it to my wife, who's the real stats and research methods geek around here, but on first read it makes sense. @ChemGal? You're pretty good with this stuff. So 40% of hospitalizations for Covid 19 in the UK are double vaccinated.....does this explanation make sense?

COVID: the reason cases are rising among the double vaccinated – it’s not because vaccines aren’t working
Most people being hospitalised with COVID-19 in the UK have had both vaccine doses, but this is to be expected as vaccination rates rise.theconversation.com
No, 40% have been vaccinated and 15% of those had both vaccinations. That still doesn’t say how many of the double vaccinated have been at least 2 weeks post the second one. Since this is the UK, it is also most likely that most of them had AZ and not Pfizer, which also means it had less effectiveness in the first place. So 40% of hospitalizations for Covid 19 in the UK are double vaccinated.....does this explanation make sense?

Right, looking at his tweet the corrected version is 60% are unvaccinated, so 40% have some degree of vaccination. No, 40% have been vaccinated and 15% of those had both vaccinations. Some of the other arguments in the article are also not logical, like that if everyone was vaccinated all in the hospital would also be vaccinated people. That forgets the point that the vaccination is supposed to reduce the effect of covid and prevent hospitalization. So people in hospital is not a positive sign that the vaccination works, at least if they are admitted because of covid and not because of a broken leg.
I have to say, I was wondering the same thing, I thought if we had both doses that Covid would be milder and not require hospitalization. No, 40% have been vaccinated and 15% of those had both vaccinations. Although, the vaccines were rolled out earlier in the UK so possibly it's also a sign of immunity not lasting as long as they thought with a combination of the Delta variant making its presence known. That said, around here, the health unit is saying only 4.3% of new cases are in vaccinated people and none of those are in the hospital. So anecdotal evidence suggest 40% might actually be high. But it is anecdotal.
Depends on what leadership is included. I think it's a small minority with a large amount of power right now unfortunately.Alberta covid plan could have ripple effect
This is frustrating. I do believe that covid will become just another illness that public health folks will monitor. It seems that the leadership of Alberta is only interested in business. Certainly not the health and well being of Albertans. Does Dr Hinshaw really recommend and believe this stuff?
