COVID is steadily infecting more people in my home area. Not huge numbers but per capita it isn't good. One of my kids texted today to say she and her family had all just been exposed to a positive case. The guy was visiting them when he got the news. I think his test was a 'routine ' one connected with his place of employment - or maybe his coaching activities. Another of my kids is still in quarantine in Miami waiting to get on the cruise ship she is supposed to work on. Another works in a place that has had several cases - the experts haven't yet decided to close the place down for a while. The fourth kid basically stays home. Pops into the grocery store as needed, and comes to visit with us most days.

I rather wish Trump had been correct with his words that it was just going to disappear!

Sorry Kay, that's something coming from a lot of different directions. Hopefully the visitor didn't spread it around.
 
Recall the denial is deeply covite 'd! So far it is hard to see ... mentally ...

Could be the excessive willis ... once known as King William who countered the Johns ... rich and hard as blarney ... as they too cannot get it together! Slam dunking could cause cracks ...
 
Ontario is revamping its approach to COVID restrictions. No more "stages". Instead, each region/municipality is assigned a level on a scale that determines what restrictions are appropriate. No area is currently above "Restrict", the third highest level and most are in "Prevent", the lowest, including London-Middlesex. Not surprisingly, the two largest cities, Toronto and Ottawa, are on Restrict as are some of their neighbours.

The new framework aims to adjust and/or tighten measures as "trends in public health indicators improve."

The levels, by the way, are:

Prevent
Protect
Restrict
Control
Lockdown

Measures escalate as you move along the scale, so Protect is just distancing and masking while Lockdown is, well, lockdown.
 
Dr. Hinshaw is now discussing prevent spread within a household :rolleyes: As that's the 'big driver' currently.
When it comes to preventing spread, within a household is going to be the most difficult IMO. I don't place any blame on a household if they don't force one person into total isolation. It's one thing to not go out. It's another to stay within 1 room/bathroom for weeks, especially when there are kids involved.
 
And the problem is that not everyone has those facilities. I grew up in a house with only one bathroom, for 5 people. Now, it has two now, but the basement one is the boarder's. Most apartment dwellers have only bathroom.
 
Also masking at home - if they expect people to do that when someone is sick, the province should be providing a box of masks IMO.

And even in houses with more than 1, it's often only 1 shower/bath.

There's also a good chance it has been spread before the person even gets the positive results. At work, there's a case I suspect is like that now, household person tested positive and they were at work, they tested positive shortly after.
 
In new mask experience, one of my "mask orders" arrived today. This one was the one with the silicone mask bracket, and I bought a mask as well. It's fabric, but with room for a filter, and with a nose clip.

So I tried the bracket today with another mask (without a nose clip) and it gapped quite a bit, but it was also a pleated one, so I may only be able to use it with certain masks. I've also ordered one with a clear vinyl panel in the middle to help with lip reading. We'll see how we make out. Of course, I use my minimum wage salary to buy these things, lol. I should just quit working.

Because I think I'd be stark raving mad of loneliness if I didn't have my 3 day a week interaction with people, many of whom are my neighbours, ex-co-workers from the College, church members.

I live by myself. There's no circle here. My daughter lives in town, but she's only 30, and maybe not as careful as she might be, and I don't dare see the old guy, because I have visions of passing COVID-19 to the entire dialysis population of Simcoe Muskoka.
 
There is a faction that would declare no matter what you believe ... that is just isn't so ... from the point of nothing Ness ... a dark oleh ole!

Thus I get comfortable by repairing by myself ... while retreating somewhere! Some say this resembles mind fullness as a metaphor! Thus I have managed to talk to myself quite well while being denied social structures ...
 
Dr. Tam is now recommending a 3 layer non disposable mask.
So what do you do with those store bought masks?
Well if youre handy you can open a seam and stick a filter inside. Suggested filters are:
-non woven washable polypropylene fabric
-or a disposable filter (eg. Coffee filter, even a paper towel was suggested)
Include two layers of tightly woven cloth or linen.

To date Canada has not ackowleged that Covid is airborne but I personally believe this is behind these new requrements that should have always been in place....
This will probably not sit well with anti maskers and this latest advice was based on some new scientific data which Dr. Tam hasnt offered in support of this that I know of.
I do know from what Ive read personally that it would take 16 layers of linen to prevent the Covid virus from getting through.

Actually, in German news and instructions given of DYI masks, three layers were recommended from the very beginning.

I just use the disposable surgical masks - which are now easy to obtain here in Oz. Does anyone know are they layered, or offer protection equivalent to how many layers of DYI masks?

Medical masks are 3-layer. We use them at work (healthcare company). Even a lot of the disposal medical-style masks that aren't rated for medical use (like the ones sold in Canada at Costco) are (yes, my wife checked).
 
I find though the fit is awful. I suspect they had male jawlines in mind. I find both the free ones that were distributed at drive thrus, given at hospitals and from a box I purchased that they ride up quickly, where they start to press on my eyelashes. Worse if I have to talk at all or with other movement ie getting into my car, where I take them off at least one eye is typically covered. One time at the hospital I was also given a 3D printed ear saver - even worse. I had eczema behind my ears at the time and the mask I wore in worked great, with elastic behind my upper neck and on my head. I had to take off the mask at one point I was given and totally readjust everything - 3 times. I wasn't around anyone at the time. I couldn't see to infuse my medication without doing so, and then when I changed into the hospital gown/back into my clothes it was hopeless (although I think that can be expected).

As long as reasonable materials are being used I think fit matters the most.
