The canadian govt is now shut down until April. There will be help for people affected by COVID-19 with mortgages and rent....although Im not sure how anyone is to access this. Cruise ship travel is suspended and air travel reduced to a minimum.
Hmmmm.....

Not sure the details are even out. Bill Morneau and Stephen Poloz are supposed to be giving a press conference this aft with details of a fiscal package. It may even be under way.

The Norwegian Prime Minister announced the most drastic set of measures ever seen outside of wartime in an attempt to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Assembly of First Nations Chief Perry Bellegarde, Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami president Natan Obed and Metis National Council vice-president David Chartrand were to meet with Trudeau and with Canada's premiers Thursday in Ottawa, but the meetings were cancelled after Trudeau placed himself in isolation due to COVID-19 concerns.

The three Indigenous leaders were told Thursday their in-person meeting with the prime minister would be postponed "indefinitely" but were told a call with all three and Trudeau would be organized for Friday.

The call will deal only with COVID-19.

Now that school has closed for 3 weeks they are recommending NOT to use the grandparents for babysitters.....keep your parents safe.
Good luck with that!

More than half of the world's 128,000 people infected have already recovered. Most patients have only mild or moderate symptoms such as a fever or cold, though severe symptoms including pneumonia can occur, especially in older adults and people with existing health problems.

Along with the NBA and NHL seasons, Major League Baseball, every event under the NCAA umbrella (including March Madness), and both the ATP and WPT have either been put on hold indefinitely or cancelled completely. The PGA Tour originally said it would continue as is without fans on the course before abruptly cancelling the already-in-progress Player’s Championship late Thursday—it’s unsure yet if the upcoming Masters Tournament, golf’s premier event, will go ahead.

This summer will bring two marquee events in UEFA Euro 2020 and the Tokyo Olympics.

It’s unsure at this time how either of those will be impacted.

My hematology appointment next week has been switched to a phone one instead of being in person. Usually I get bloodwork done, plus right now I am supposed to be doing that once a month to watch my liver. Not sure what the plan will be for that.

This is definitely an interesting fork in the road. Problem + Reaction + Solution = Global Martial Law?
School in Manitoba is now shutting down Mar 23 for 3 weeks.
Guess I will be having my Grandson (Grade 12) visiting for a while ...
His job as a swimming instructor will not likely be an option for much longer.

I'm scheduled as a day patient at hospital on Wednesday for a colonoscopy......

A not very welcome development would be to spend the preceding day on MoviPrep -only to get a last minute call cancelling the colonoscopy.o_O

One of my coworkers who came back from Florida two weeks ago came down with some cold symptoms and didn’t come to work today, waiting for advise on what to do.
Still no first case in NS, but I heard rumours there might be one likely case in Halifax.
I canceled my Friday evening supper and crib game with my best friend tonight. She has an auto immune disease requiring IV intervention every two weeks to up her system. Working at a hospital, I am too much of a risk factor for her.

I recommend you call before doing the prep. I shared my appointment is phone, I've heard in patient groups of cancelled surgeries.

Rita, you post a lot about how most people recover. And that is true. But if 15,000,000 get it, (40%). And say 10% are ill and require hospital care that is 1,500,000. That is a lot of hospital beds. more Than we have.
no one is disputing that for the average healthy person it shouldn’t be an issue. For this 1,000,000 plus Canadians that require care we have an issue. And we have that 4% death rate to hope goes down dramatically

Options are waning everywhere as the powerful reclaim the resources for private purpose ... singular survival?
But there is a category of US citizens which is exempt from these standards : the 20,000 soldiers who have begun to arrive from the United States to the ports and airports of Europe for the Defender Europe 20 exercises, the greatest deployment of US troops in Europe in the last 25 years.

With those who are already present, approximately 30,000 US soldiers will be participating in the execises in April and May, alongside 7,000 others from the 17 member countries and partners of NATO, including Italy.

The first armoured unit arrived from the port of Savannah, USA at Bremerhaven in Germany. A total of 20,000 pieces of military equipment are arriving from the USA at six European ports (in Belgium, Holland, Germany, Latvia and Estonia). 13,000 others are provided by the stocks that were pre-positioned by the US Army Europe, mainly in Germany, Holland and Belgium.

These operations, explains the US Army Europe, « require the participation of tens of thousands of soldiers, military personnel and civilians from numerous nations .

At the same time, the majority of the contingent of 20,000 soldiers arrive from the USA, landing at seven European airports.

Among this number are 6,000 from the National Guard of 15 States : including Arizona, Florida, Montana, New York and Virginia.

At the start of the exercise in April – explains the US Army Europe – the 30,000 US soldiers will deploy throughout the European region in order to protect Europe from any potential threat, with a clear reference to the Russian menace .

General Tod Wolters – who commands US forces as well as the NATO forces in Europe, as Supreme Allied Commander - assures that the European Union, NATO and the United States European Command, have worked together to improve the infrastructures .

This will allow military convoys to move quickly along the 4,000 kilometres of transit routes.

Tens of thousands of soldiers will cross the frontiers to perform exercises in ten countries.

In Poland, US soldiers will arrive in twelve training areas, equipped with approximately 2,500 vehicles.

US paratroopers from the 173rd Brigade based in Venetia, and Italians from the Brigade Folgore based in Tuscany, will go to Latvia for a joint launching exercise.

Defender Europe 20 is being carried out in order to increase the capacity of deploying a major combat force in Europe from the United States.

It is taking place according to times and procedures which make it practically impossible to submit tens of thousands of soldiers to the sanitary standards set up to deal with the coronavirus, and prevent their contact with local inhabitants during their rest periods.

Furthermore, the US Army Europe Rock Band will be giving a series of free concerts in Germany, Poland and Latvia, which are sure to attract a large public.

The 30,000 US soldiers, who will deploy throughout the European region, are thus exempt from the preventative standards set up to deal with the coronavirus crisis which, on the other hand, do apply to civilians.

The assurance given by the US Army Europe suffices : we have the coronavirus under surveillance and our forces are in good health .

At the same time, no-one is considering the environmental impact of a military exercise of this scale.

US Abrams tanks will be taking part – each of them weighs 70 tonnes, with armour-plating made of depleted uranium, and consumes 400 litres of fuel for 100 kilometres, producing heavy pollution in order to achieve maximum power.

In this situation, what is the reaction of the European Union and national authorities, and what is the WHO doing about it?

They are covering their faces with masks, not only to cover their mouths and noses, but also their eyes.
