Novel Coronavirus

Yeah, I'm wondering if there is some misunderstanding there. We don't know at this point how many, if any, more will be required. Likely at least one since both Moderna and Biontech are working on new versions that have better protection for the Omicron family of variants, which seems to be the one that is now generating most of the new variants. But even those aren't expected before Fall AFAIK.

@Northwind have you heard anything about Evusheld? Even with the provincial differences I'm guessing you won't be in the first group, but was wondering if anyone even mentioned it to you.

I don't know specific names. I do know I would qualify for one of the drugs available if I contracted covid.

Oh, then I haven't heard anything about it.
It's for people who are less likely to respond to the vaccine. Works for 6-9 months and has shown to work well for Omicron.
In AB criteria is all transplant/cancer based and specific meds for those with cancer. Things like high dose steroids for autoimmune disease doesn't count.

Then I would probably qualify. I have a telephone doctor's appointment next month. I'll have to ask. Or, I'll look on the BC Cancer page. They have good info usually.

Imagine all the things we haven't been told yet ... or otherwise don't know ... mostly because we despise knowing a lot!

We tend to stupendous and spectacular dense domains ... emotional disasters?

My thinking is more inline with this:

University of Saskatchewan epidemiologist Dr. Nazeem Muhajarine also advises those who are eligible for their third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to go and get it. However, rather than tying the definition of “fully vaccinated” to a specific number of doses, he said public health authorities should focus on advising Canadians to keep their vaccination status “up-to-date” based on the latest recommendations from the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI).

“’Fully vaccinated’ no longer works, in my mind, as a definition of being up-to-date on the vaccine doses that you need to get … I think it is high time that we [change] that,” he told CTVNews.ca on June 1 in a telephone interview. “It is about being caught up with all the vaccines that you're recommended to get at this stage of the pandemic.”
This is getting waaay too complicated (reading some of this reminds me of bridge)

Just tell us when we can get our dose etc :3

America has already saved the world with her amazing Manhatten Project level Operation Warp Speed; there is no need to make this more complicated lol

Have pity on us normal mortals, bureaucrati lol

I don't think that aspect is complicated.
Are you fully vaccinated for tetanus? If you had a dose in the last 10 years, yes.
Some people who are known to not respond as well may be told to get it more often than that.
Some people may be told they need treatment for possible exposures as they can't get protection from vaccination, either people they can get the shot due to something like an allergy or because their immune system won't respond.

What is complicating this is
- we don't know what's needed going ahead
- so many people are due for the next dose all at once

I'm just overcome lol

How complicated is buying a house for you?

I find it too complicated :3

Be wary hust because you find something easy doesnt mean someone else finds it complicated?

You have had to, due to your issues, had to keep up with your needs etc. And you have certain expertise? I am very fortunate to have been able to read your expertise and that you can communicate it very well.

We all have different Learned Experiences. We all live in the Dominant Culture but not all of us are served well by the Dominant Culture--and these vaccines and our healthcare system etc is part of the Dominant Culture. As is all the jargon.

I was also riffing on the concept of "Fully Vaccinated"; that seems to be a silly bit of jargon if it gets redefined?

(I am confused by any difference between dose and booster...this is all sounding like baseball lol)

Bureaucrats should use plain English? Make things simpler for those of us who arent living in million dollar homes etc :3

Just commenting out loud here. Being more desriptive than proscriptive?

Ty for trying to explain--my brain has been really exploding lol

Sorry, I did mean it in terms of how we deal with other vaccines and what's considered fully vaccinated.
The terms being used are confusing as there's no consistency.

I am sticking with AHS and immunologists - Primary series and boosters.
Even I am inconsistent with dose, as I use it interchangeable with shot. Ie. so far I have had 4 chots - 3 primary series and one booster. I may also say something like I Had my 4th dose this past March.
Dose is the amount though, so when I say my 3rd shot was only a 1/2 dose, it was 1/2 of what I got compared to the first 2. Ie. 1000 mcg and 50 mcg. I really should have had 100 mcg for everything so far.

Since the fourth shot seems to only be effective for a couple of months and my immune system seems ok, I plan to wait until boosters that work against Omicron are available. With luck I will be able to get a shot at the same time as a flu shot.

Summer is a lower risk time for most respiratory infections.

Those were my thoughts, exactly. Apparently some company is developing a booster, due in fall, which is better engineered towards recent variants; I'll get one of those plus a flu shot.

Moderna apparently is working on a shot that is good for Omicron as well as the old Corona versions. To be ready in the fall.
Yeah, that's the one Bette was thinking of, I imagine, since it was just in the news in the last couple days. Pfizer and BioNTech are supposed to working on a similar project (a combo vaccine for both the Omicron variants and the older ones) but I have not heard recent news on theirs.

So masks are almost history in Ontario, at least as far as provincial government rules. Only long term and retirement facilities will still require them under provincial regulations. Hospitals are mostly announcing plans to keep mask mandates but I wonder how enforceable those will be absent the province's rules. And, perhaps not surprisingly, the head of the expert panel is not pleased. He accepts the decision as a judgement call by the medical officer and government, but thinks masking in health facilities should have been extended. And his predecessor argued that the lifting of general public mask mandates happened too soon as well.
