I have seen no correlation between manspreading and leg length. I think they think their external genitalia need air. Or something. It's a bad habit because it's inherently inconsiderate ("I deserve two seats"); I've found that a frown directed at the offending area often results in more gentlemanly posture.
 
I guess I never paid much attention to it until it jumped out as an issue on facebook. Since then I have watched for it and found - most men don't do it. I had a young male guest for dinner recently. I glanced over at him and Seelerman sitting on the couch and armchair in the livingroom after the meal - neither manspreading. Nor was the man who dropped in on an errand the week before and stayed for a visit. Nor the men at square-dancing last evening. Most men I know aren't guilty - at least not to an extreme. They may not sit with their legs clamped together, but for most their knees would be no further apart than their hips.
I have occasionally witnessed manspreading in public - mainly by young men in tight jeans, and by slightly overweight or 'beefy' men. I mentally write it off as: showing off their manhood; ignorance; and perhaps a comfort issue with the larger men. It is not attractive or sexy if that is what they are looking for; but it is not a problem unless it is invading my space. (ps I don't travel on public transit where it might result in crowding)
 
Then there is the strange Gael-IHC kilt ... allows for Eire and the hidden parts breathe ...

And the English thought the Celts lacking good sense. Ever see an iron burn (no not branding) but when a myth burns in as unseen fire ... some referred to "M" as cha-r'alie! And someone burned the throne and made room in the kitchen for the alien ... is data ewe di Annas?

Did you know that in classic tongues .. an or annas was an concern, interest or a worry? Woe men ... the Ephraim spirit can do this to powerful men ... look what happened to Clinton and Bush! Coming down is humbling ... being an ordinary person or just common people as collective and integrated! Tis not in the cards it appears ... so there has to be another side to the myth ... one emotional populations would chose not to understand as subtle or Zous-la! The beginnings of the underlying spirit ... of 'eLLe the missal again ... as the missionary position ... cat a'pull't? Don't get sucked in if you wish to retain power ... or you could loose thoughts ... they will return! Allows for yin and yang .... round'a botes?
 
Nomons' pread ... considering the redaction of the "p" ... the Roman "roe" and the Greek "beta" would that leave a balanced sole Piscine in great humor?

Thus the movie: A River Runs Through It a story about brothers fighting instead of sharing ... it is said the battle is eternal since one of the spirits is dark ... scaring the crap out of the lighter one ... and they became Levantine ... floating off as wends ... and the river was labeled Pison or in another tradition it is Uri'L .... and the pool surrounds us with what we don't know ... is that sadistic or what?

You have to be a menial pain to teach a numi anything ... so they can make something of nothing. Powerful folks don't believe in nothing ... and thus they are An's or anis as anin as buried in a yid -ish Tael of light ... Jae Sues ... did you see that slip by miss understood?

Again it seems the po' sole learns nut'n without myth (of the mind) that is manifest as a fear of something appearing as it isn't ... it does lye subtly in the tale ... that right over the horses termination of the colon tube ... biologists say an organ that science has difficulty duplicating as they know little about rectums and rae creams ... being a rae or ray is like a void in a piece of wood that is lineated! Others say it is full of lignin sticky matters of attachment as may be derived from terre 'a pins ... those damned points thata re quantum ... very chancy ... as in chau Sire's tael ... that'd be the widow trying to support Ur orphans in the story ... dangling participles? J' aimes Joyce used them as his aDios ... and then he Tue was goan ... and the spirit of Finnigan's wakening to the other side ... and the 4 hoers man Circe ... observing the dissonance called life ... destined to anarchy by avarice ... even the Targets failed ... and thus the object of wisdom is gone ... lost in the red crossing ... brains-oul barrier?

That's the thing, I don't think most of these men would do it while on the couch, I think most do it in a public area, often without thinking about it to claim some space for themselves.

Here again you seem to be suggesting that only men hog seats. It's just not so.
 
Another way a few people misuse space on transit is by blocking seats with their bicycles. I've seen people occupy a three-person seat all by themselves. They'll sit in the middle seat, holding their bicycle in front of them in the aisle, thus blocking off the two end seats. Most unfair. O/O

Fair enough. With me, dismay I see about a fifty fifty split in males and females misusing the space.
 
Never heard of manspreading . . . but although we do have a small bus service here, I never use it. And from what I see, it is never even close to full . . . so if the men on it are manspreading it would be no big deal.

Someone ahead (I think it was Carolla) mentioned politeness. Politeness goes a long way . . . so does common sense. I would hope that most people who take up extra space would be polite and use common sense when the bus becomes full.

In my experience, a few do - most do not.
 
Most people, in my experience, take up space with shopping bags and luggage - and huge double wide strollers taking up seats for people with disabilities while their kids aren't even in them. They need the space too so I am not sure who gets priority. There is a cutesy little campaign on transit vehicles right now to discourage certain behaviours - but at the same time I don't know how else people without cars are supposed to transport a weeks worth of groceries or suitcases from a trip - or their huge fancy strollers. Maybe, pay extra fare for the space they occupy - but then again, I think that's splitting hairs. The fares have gone up to unreasonable rates for commuters travelling two or three zones (out to the suburbs) here.

It's simple Cousin. One token equals a maximum of one seat.
 
We don't have tokens. We have machines that you put change into that issue tickets good for an hour and a half. Or packages of 10 unstamped tickets for 1, 2, or 3 zones (the further you go out into the suburbs the more zones you cross and the fares go up for each) that need to be validated by a machine at the train stations or when getting onto the bus (or put in coins on the bus). Or, one month passes for 1,2,or 3 zones. So one person who carries on 2 person's worth of stuff could potentially pay for 2 tickets or 2 bus passes if it was a regular need. But I don't think so. We pay 5.50 I think it is, for 3 zones. To downtown and home again costs people $11 from the outer suburbs. I think that's too much as it is.

That does seem expensive to me. I live in one of the outer suburbs of Toronto, and can go downtown for just $3 (even less if I buy a number of tokens at one time, or else use Metropass.)

Here, a person would likely need 2 tickets (5.50 each - they are a bit cheaper overall, if bought in books of ten or a monthly pass) to go downtown from the furthest suburb, and then home again if they were to stop and go shopping or whatever because the tickets expire after an hour and a half no matter where you're going.

$3 is for one way. $6 for the round trip - no time limit. And, like I said, there are ways to pay less. I'm surprised you have to pay more, since we have a subway and all you have is a train.

That's fine for the average person and might be an advantage for skinny people when three might easily crowd into a double seat; but isn't it discrimination against large or overweight people?
